Report: Favre undergoes ankle surgery

The annual Brett Favre retirement dance is ending early this offseason.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Favre underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle on Friday morning.  Dr. James Andrews performed the procedure, intended to clean up scar tissue to free up range of motion.  It will take 4-6 weeks to recover.

Favre may not announce his return until training camp is half over.  (He will want to report to Minneapolis, not Mankato.)  He will probably say that he hasn’t made his decision yet. But the timing of the surgery — the fact that Favre underwent any surgery — says otherwise.

He’s coming back, just like everyone expected all along.

It would be incredibly funny if he was just fixing his ankle to live retirement comfortably.
I’m tired of seeing Brett play the Bears. I’ve had enough Brett in my life to last a lifetime. At least the Packer fans had him, the Vikings have him. We’ve had Grossman, McNown, Kordell Stewart, etc. Although Brett Favre said himself that Cutler is better than he was, at Cutler’s age. So suck on that Vikings ;p

It has not been a good day for news in packerland, first the Williams Wall is cleared to play and now BF……I think the State of Wisconsin just took a collective shit in their pants. They usually don’t need a reason to have a beer in their hands but today’s news should be good for a 12pak or two. Love him or hate him, the NFL knows BF is great for the game and I do enjoy watching him. The NFL needs more competitors like him.

I would love to see Favre come back for another year. You remenber the Saints game? Well get ready for more of the same. Every team is going to make it their mission to take the flip flopper down. Either Favre has had too many hits to the head or he is just plain greedy, but this sappy “love of the game” crap doesn’t fly anymore. And then there is always the possibility that he is just too dumb and stubborn to realize he is finished. Whatever the reason, I am just glad it is the Vikings problem and not the Packers. I think Rodgers has proven he has what it takes, class wise and talent. I say go Rodgers and the Packers!!!! Favre really is not relevant anymore, he is the only one who doesn’t know it. Hopefully, the media will grow tired of it all when he crashes and burns yet again. History does tend to repeat itself doesn’t it? Especially where the interception magnet is concerned.

Let’s dissect exactly how big of an ass-clown you truly are shall we? “dumb and stubborn to realize he is finished.” I see… So I guess when you have a career best season, that means you’re finished, makes sense to me. Secondly, “I am just glad it is the Vikings problem and not the Packers.” Really? because according to the first half of your post, you’re still ‘tired’ of his indecisiveness… Do everyone a favor, never reproduce.

  34. JimmySmith says: May 21, 2010 9:03 PM

How many fumbles is he away from setting that NFL record? The man does like to set records, that’s for sure.
What are the odds that a QB could end his team’s season for a 4th straight year with a INT? Its a long shot but then again, this is the Vikings who found a way to lose 4 Superbowls and not to be outdone, came back to lose 5 NFC championship games so they have proven nothing is impossible, except winning a Superbowl.

I love how all you Packer fans are talking ish about Brett when he is the only reason your team has been any good the past 15 years. What has Aaron Rodgers done besides put up good stats so far in his career???? Did he not end your season with a fumble/Int for a touchdown last season????
Should be a great division battle this year with GB having the slight advantage of the easy first 4 or so games just like the Vikes last year. Would love to see a Pack/Vikes NFC championship and would be more than happy to come back here and eat crow if the Vikes lose unlike all you damn Packer fans who can’t give due credit when a team is successful.

  41. GBfanForever says: May 21, 2010 9:30 PM

Did he get the necessary vagina surgery that he needs to play again?
But seriously, the only reason he waits until the end of may is so that he doesn’t have to practice, which is, you know, one of the essential parts of forming a bond with your teammates. I am sure more than a few vikes are irritated by this and ultimately it’s why they won’t win a super bowl with him.

Instead of trolling Viking threads all day long about the NFC Championship, why don’t you troll the Colt threads. Are you a child or something?
I don’t know about you Saints fans but if the Vikings won the Superbowl I’d rather be rubbing it in the team who lost to us in the big one than the NFC championship.
Also are you a newly acquired bandwagon of the Saints, or just a sad statistic of the uneducated, STD infested New Orleans area who run around screaming “who dat!”. You could do the people the people there a favour by at least speaking properly to make yourselves sound semi-intelligent. Instead while you parade your SB win around and laugh at Vikings fans for our loss in the championship the rest of the world is laughing at you for your stupidity and the fact you won’t be living in another 10 or so years from your severe HIV and AIDs problems.

  61. PurpleRaid12 says: May 21, 2010 10:51 PM

    LombardiAvenue…..
If you’re gonna bring up NFL titles do so correctly. The Vikings have an NFL Championship from 1969 over the Cleveland Browns (they won 27-7) Now, if you claim it doesn’t “count” then you can’t claim the Packer’s have 12. So, if you’re claim is the Packer’s have 3 Super Bowl Wins, then your argument holds weight, seeing that the Vikings don’t have a Super Bowl win. Secondly, if you’re going on Titles (not just SB) then the Steelers aren’t second, the Chicago Bears are with 9. Get your facts straight…

  62. PurpleRaid12 says: May 21, 2010 10:55 PM

  63. awoods1906 says: May 21, 2010 10:59 PM

CanadianVikingFan, as a Saints fan let me tell you that you are an idiot.
While I am a Saints fan, I understand and respect the game as well. It will be very difficult to repeat, the Saints are far from a Dynasty (though still a very talented team) and Brett is a good QB (too many mistakes for my liking but still very good). After saying all of that only a true idiot would make generalizations about all fans based on the comments of 1. When you reference “uneducated” you should take a long look in the mirror – the best you can offer to support your contention are shallow “uneducated” insults. Listen the reason why some Saints fans continue to jump on Vikings threads is the ridiculous posts after the NFC Championships – not nearly what the Colts posters said after the SB. Let me go on record now by saying that you may very well win the 1st game but it means nothing if you don’t win a Championship just like losing the game but winning the SB would mean everything. No insult you thow out can change that reality.

  64. PackerFanforDecades says: May 21, 2010 11:06 PM

Brett passed up a chance to be a unquestioned hero forever in Wisconsin when he moved to the Jets. The situation went much further downhill when he moved to the Vikings.
Used to be I could wear my Packer #4 jersey around anywhere and anyone who saw it felt great about it. Not anymore … I don’t feel comfortable leaving the house with it on now.
I think he passed up a golden opportunity to become a permanent super-hero at that first (tearful) retirement press conference in Green Bay. He could have said this:
“Hey …. if I come back for another season to play here for the Pack, that will mean our gifted young guy Aaron Rogers isn’t going to get substantial playing time. The Pack could lose him, just like Atlanta lost me. I sure don’t want that to happen to the Pack because then we’d be real thin at the QB spot for the next several years and we’d have to go try to find a draft pick as good as Aaron is. That would be tough.”
“Yeah, it would be fun for me to play another 16 games next season … but that would be putting what is fun for me in front of what is in the best longer-term interest of the Packers.”
“I’m not going to do that. I’ve loved playing for the Packers and I want the Pack to return to the top and stay there for the next 12 – 15 years … until Aaron gets around to retiring. So, I want to make it easy for Aaron to grow into MVP recognition right here in Green Bay.”
“Here’s what I’m going to do …. I’m going to be back next year as Aaron’s back-up. I’m going to volunteer to take a serious salary cut so the Packers aren’t hurt financially. If Aaron get’s hurt, I’ll be there to fill in for him. But starting today, he’s the #1 quarterback in Green Bay. And if there is anything in my power that I can do to help him, or offer him suggestions, or give him some insight while watching tape, or fill in for him if he sprains an ankle, that’s what I’m going to be doing next autumn.”
“I threw an interception to close our season last year. I didn’t hear one fan boo me for that. I do remember lots of cheering when I’ve done some good things. I love and respect the fans here. I love being a Green Bay Packer and I want to be remembered as a Green Bay Packer who sacrificed a little more personal fun for the good of the longer term interests of this great club.”
Man … if Brett had done somthing like that there would have been a Favre Avenue in every city in the state by now. He’d have both “MVP” and “MHP” (Most Humble Player) on his statue in front of Lambeau Field.
And … he could have wept after that speech too and there wouldn’t have been a dry eye in the entire state of Wisconsin.
We don’t have nearly enough genuine heroes in this nation and it hurts that Brett forfeited my chance to have one.

Your six yards away from a very makeable fg when Brent does what he does best these days, throw gut wrenching picks in HUGE GAMES with everything on the line. Haaaa! Okay you slow witted canadian, I expect to never see a comment from you on a Packers thread then, Eh? Maybe you should stick to to ice hockey. Go suck on your tim hortons doughnut, that’ll learn ‘ya.

Think again jackass, why didn’t you include the rest of what I said.
“You’re not even a division rival.”
Meaning they are more than welcome.
No wonder the world hates you Americans and thinks you are retarded, because of New Orleans, inbred Rednecks like yourself and of course the idiots in L.A.

The Packers are relevant the way the USSR is — in a historical sense, but not so much beyond that.
One title in 40 years (yes — one more than the Vikings have) doesn’t them relevant today. I don’t care how many times the Packers beat the Canton Bulldogs or the Rockford Peaches…

Ok this is coming from a Saints fan and pretty much everyone out there that’s not on the Vikqueens pussies….
PACKERS DESTROY VIKQUEENS IN EVERY PART OF FOOTBALL… PAST HISTORY.. RECENT HISTORY etc etc…
Pretty sad to know someone can stomp you for so many years and then play for ur team for one year and call him the “KINF of MINN” ahahahahahaha!!!!

lol for one, im 21 years old, I just happen to realize the NFL wasn’t invented in 1968.
No one has a problem mentioning the Yankees have 27 titles even though 20 of them happened before 1963.
Just because you didn’t see it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen… fools.

@ Cannon: Are you telling me that what happened 40, 50, 60 years ago holds no relevance in the history of the game? Don’t be salty that the great Green Bay Packers have twice as many championships as your Steelers. We too once only had 6 championships—in the year 1939 to be precise. Now brush your teeth and go to bed.

Truly you represent your city well — just how I remember New Orleans — a bunch of lazy, ignorant people looking for a handout or waiting to commit a crime.
The only bright spot in New Orleans is if you get shot down there, you have a high probably of living because the hospitals treat so many GSWs.
I’m sure you are the face of New Orleans — how proud the city and its residents should be.

    PackerFanforDecades,
You ever think maybe he just wanted to play again and the Packers did not want him so he moved on as well? I mean, is it really that big of deal to be some hero to you drunken retards in Wisconsin. I for one, would much rather continue doing something that I love and wouldn’t worry about the team that didn’t want me anymore(except when I play them twice a year or hopefully 3 in 2010).

Well said Lombardi. I’m sure most “football fans” probably think the Bengals have been to zero SBs. But they went to 2 in the 80′s, and they were the only team to give the 49ers a run for the money (both times)

    Green N Gold,
If it broke my heart I’d admit it. Was I disappointed that the Vikings didn’t get a chance in overtime? Sure, but in NO WAY was that loss all Favre’s fault. As a team we turned the ball over 5 times. But I can understand if you don’t know the concept of a “team” because you were probably never picked to play on one when you were a kid.

PurpleRaid12: Typical Viking fan, You can’t respond with intelligence so you have to call people names or make totally unrelated insults. Is that all you got?? It figures. I guess it must be pretty frustrating losing every superbowl you’ve ever been in and having to put your last hopes on an aging drama queen.
And last I checked all Superbowls count regardless of the year. I always get such a kick out of Viking fans saying that the early superbowls of the Packers don’t count. LMAO, if the Vikings had them (I realize that is a huge stretch) they would count every last one of them.
FYI, I never said a thing about the flip-floppers indecisiveness. Favre has only himself to blame for that distinction with his OWN irratic behavior.
And gee, how did Favre’s career best season end?? With yet another season ending crucial interception. After watching Favre choke in many Packer playoff games, I have every right to comment on him. Last I checked this is a message board and everyone has a right to post their opinion here.
Maybe Chilly will pick him up at the airport again and drive him about town. Maybe if the diva participated in mini camps and training camps he would be in shape to play an entire season.
I have been a Packer fan my entire life, long before Favre played and long after he is gone. The Packer team is just that, a TEAM. It has never been and will never be about one egomaniac player.

The Packers have 3 Superbowl wins and the last time I checked the Vikings have lost every Superbowl they have ever played in. What is it 4 now?
That would mean the Packer Superbowl record is 3 wins and 1 loss and the Vikings Superbowl records is 0 wins and 4 losses. I guess I shouldn’t be shocked you don’t understand the math.
Where do you get the one title in 40 years?????
Just because the Queens have no Superbowl wins you can’t take other team’s wins away.
LMAO ROFL at the stupidity of this one.

  81. 1265LombardiAve says: May 22, 2010 10:20 PM

    @PurpleRaid12
no your “nfl championship” doesn’t count, because you lost the superbowl, so that is equivalent to winning an nfc championship nowadays. so you still have 0.
secondly, i wasnt listing teams who had the most titles, i was just referencing the teams that that guy claimed were the “nfl’s elite”, so my facts are straight.

GBXXXO (kisses and hugs to the Green Bay’s staff?)
TRY REALLY HARD TO UNDERSTAND WHAT I’M ABOUT TO SAY OK?… I’M SURE IT ISN’T TOO DIFFICULT.
RE READ my post. My first comment was towards you, if he (Favre) is so indecisive and whatnot, then it obviously still affects you enough to comment and say how much you get upset over it; But I though it was “The Vikings problem now.” OK? So… That means Vikings problem, meaning it makes no sense for GBXXXO to comment about how much it bothers him and how much disdain he has for Favre. Secondly, I said the Packer’s do have more titles than any other team and I NEVER said any of them “don’t count” my point was the Vikings have a title (the same as 9 of GB’s, whether LombardiAve agrees or not) from 1969 (over the Browns) My point is that if that Vikings championship doesn’t count then 9 of Green Bay’s doesn’t count, they were called championship titles BEFORE THE MERGER. Look the facts up. If you and LombardiAve want to go on what Dad and Grandpa told you then that’s fine… but they’re wrong. The only truth is Vikings have 0 SUPER BOWL wins, versus the Packers 3 and I never discredited that. LombardiAve said “no your ‘nfl championship’ doesn’t count, because you lost the superbowl, so that is equivalent to winning an nfc championship nowadays. so you still have 0.” THAT was my point, GB Hugs/Kisses, if that doesn’t count, then nine titles for Green Bay doesn’t count, leaving just the three Super Bowl wins. I never said Green Bay sucks or anything like that, so next time you two get your panties in a wad try truly reading and trying to understanding what I’m saying…

I’ll go slow because you are Packers fan:
    2010 – 40 = 1970
Packers win Super bowls in 1967 and 1968.
Both of those years (1967 and 1968) were more than 40 years ago — get it. If I have said 42, 43, 44, 45,… or more years I would have been wrong.
That makes one (the one in 1997 for the 1996 season) for the Packers in the last 40 years.
I realize when you move beyond fingers and toes, it may get hard for you, but hopefully you understand better now.
LMAO ROFL at the stupidity of this one.
