that message should be loud & clear after last year
you dont think a bad defense affects a QB’s W/L ?
its one of the most misleading stats out there…
I give him a mulligan for last year…it was about as bad a situation as he could have gone to with the drop-off in skill players & OL plus Ron Turner vs Shanahan & Cutler was awful no doubt about it…the guy I saw last year looked like he had lost all confidence but I liked the way he came back against Minnesota
you keep harping that it was his fault they missed the playoffs for 3 years like he was the only one reponsible..that is drivel & horse hockey..
they would probably been 4-12 without him in 2008…at least 5 wins probably would have been losses
after 3 years he was right about where he should have been under any reasonable expectations & I will watch what he does with Martz before I bury him

You can decieve yourself all you want but he’s made every team worse NOT better. As for the Broncos defense, it was a lot worse than what you think. Reeves hide that fact with his offense, which Elway HATED.
Watching tape on his first two years – HORSE HOCKEY. This is is 4th season and if it weren’t for the Detroit Lions, 6 TD and 0 INT, he would have been even more of a joke last year than he was. He is the bullyon the block: going 4-16 against playoff teams and 20-13 against teams that don’t.
There is no doubt that he has the arm BUT so did Ryan Leaf and so did Gary Hogeboom. On the other hand, success doesn’t come from a great arm; otherwise, Brady and Manning would be in the UFL. He doesn’t have the head and that’s what’s killing him and the team. Unless he starts realizing that he needs to throw away a few balls rather than realizing that trying to put them in between 2 and 3 defenders is stupid, he’ll always be a loser. He’s in his 4th year and yet, he’s making rookie mistakes.
As for the other drivel. Peyton Manning was thrown into the lion’s den of a VERY BAD TEAM and yet, he managed TWO winning seasons in his first 4 and TWO playoff appearances. Cutler was given the keys to a 7-4 car and he drove it off the cliff and into oblivion. He was either given a first place team or had a first place team 3 times in 3 years in Denver and drove all of them out of the playoffs. Hell, all they had to do was beat Buffalo in 2008 and they would have been in and YET, they lost despite outgaining the Bills 532 to 275.
Neither Manning nor Warner’s stats help your argument. BOTH had winning seasons in their first 4 years, made the playoffs and Warner had a win and a loss in the Super Bowl. Warner’s defense was REALLY bad in his second season and yet, he had an 8-3 record (30+ points per game – WORSE than anything that Cutler had in Denver). Trying to compare him to two QBs that are ALWAYS going to be better than him is ridiculous.

as far as INT’s in John’s 3rd year he ended the season with 8 INT’s in the 14th/15th games of the year..he started his 12th season throwing a pick 6 in 3 straight games

2.6 – 2.9-4.0
4.2- 4.7-5.0
first 4 years- Cutler & the last 2 losing SuperBowl QB’s
its far too early in Cutler’s career to make a final judgement….your critisim is fair but from watching tape on his first 2 years & putting his career to date in context I still think he will end up being very good to great

In his 4 years as a starter, his QB rating on 3rd down is 8 points worse than his overall average. Contrast this to Manning’s, which is 4 points better. 44% of his interceptions have come on 3rd down, as have 36% of his sacks. Those are drive killering, morale lowering mistakes that keep his teams from being winners.

Outside of high school, he’s had NO success. Loser in college and has NEVER had a winning season in the NFL As for your hyperbole about Elway — 2 Super Bowl wins and 5 Super Bowl appearances. Oh, in his second year, Elway led his team to a 12-2 record; Cutler – not so much. After 4 years, Elway had a 38-18 record, 3 playoff appearances and berth in the Super Bowl; Cutler – no so much (24-29 – no playoff appearances. In fact, 3 straight flameouts that cost the Broncos playoff berths). Other than a Pro Bowl appearance, which is MEANINGLESS, just what did Cutler do that Elway didn’t?

Jay has been a success at EVERY level since Pee-Wee football, Even making the Pro Bowl in the NFL LESS than 2 years ago. Maybe all you critics were born after the 2008-2009 season. No, they didnt make the playoffs, but Jay did things that even the great #7 never did in Denver… in his second year as a starter. Cutler should be excited, the Bears by bringin Martz in gave him a scape-goat for the ridiculous season he put together last season. He actually has the reputation of being quite studious and capable of mastering an offense very quickly, even Martz praised his intelligence, as did Shanahan. Two of the brightest offensive minds praised his football smarts….hmmm…..
