Darren Sharper on Brett Favre surgery: "X marks the spot"

Now that Vikings quarterback Brett Favre has undergone ankle surgery, apparently in the hopes of playing in 2010, a former teammate and current nemesis has sounded off.

“Well, y’all seen Brett had surgery on that ankle we got after in the championship game,” Saints safety Darren Sharper said.  “Come Thursday night 1st game.  X marks the spot.”

Sharper’s message contains a healthy dose of irony, given that he was hobbling on a bad knee for much of the offseason, and that even after surgery in early March he won’t be ready to be on the field until training camp.

So, basically, the men charged with blocking for Favre easily can respond by looking at Sharper’s knee and saying, “X marks the spot.”

Darren Sharper is the biggest tool in the league. He is so ridiculously over rated. I could get 6-7 picks a year if every pick i got was a tipped gift wrapped ball. Hell even Brian Russell had like 9 that one year doin the same thing. He is the worst tackler in the league. He is an over rated peice of trash that the saints let walk and no one else wanted anything to do with him. So run your mouth Sharper you peice of **** cause thats you can do now old man. Hope you dont make it through the season.

  13. JimmySmith says: May 22, 2010 10:45 AM

Being a realist, (which is the opposite of most Viking fans) targeting an opposing player’s injury happens all the time, the smart thing to do is not talk about it. Darren Sharper is not that smart as evidenced by the fact that he both played for the Vikings and now he is talking smack about Burt’s ankle.
Worst case scenario is if one of the Saints rolls up on BrINT’s ankle on national TV. The howling and hissy fits from the gay bars of Minneapolis will be at an all-time decibel level. The conspiracy theories that were started after the Vikings lost the NFC championship game (which was the 5th NFC championship game loss leaving the Vikings with an 0-5 record for those keeping score at home) will be fueled to another level beyond the grassy knoll into Area 151.
I don’t wish ill will to any football player but the sheer entertainment factor of watching the panty wearing Viking fans self destruct might be worth the exception.

  14. mw says: May 22, 2010 10:50 AM

The Saints showed their true colors in the championship game.
If ankle for knee retaliations occur in the first game of the new season, neither team should bother planning for the playoffs.
Brees’ knees should be a priority target.
Since he didn’t complain in January, he should not complain now. Actions have consequences.

  15. DAS says: May 22, 2010 10:51 AM

Good Try Florio, everyone knows you love the Queens come out of the closet already.
Whereas Sharper and the defense can roll over the ankle when the human sack/interception machine is on the ground after being sacked. Good luck to those big beefies getting low enough to mess with Sharper’s knee. That’s a flag brotha.

  16. SeriousRadio says: May 22, 2010 10:53 AM

I think the Saints-Vikings game will be a payback game for the Vikings. Sharper’s veiled threat make Brees the X-spot for the Vikes. The Vikes won’t forget how dirty the Saints played in the NFCCG. They repeatedly made late hits on Farve. Payback is a mothuh.

  17. Brobokil says: May 22, 2010 10:57 AM

Sure would suck if the Vikings stooped to the cheating saint’s level and took out Mrs. Brees for the season huh? But then we have REAL talent, so we’ll take you losers out by playing football instead of purposely trying to f*** up an old guy (an accomplishment to be very proud of in the first place).
BTW, for those of us who still dont know wtf “who dat” means, it’s the mating call of the Cajun Owl. So it turns out every time a Saint or a Saint’s fan yell “Who dat” they’re actually trying to f**k an owl. No surprise there. It’s either that or their parents. Inbred f**ks.

Its going to be interesting to see what happens to Favre this year, he’s going to drop off just as he did at the end of every year the past 3. Body just can’t take it. If your looking for some draft tips: http://www.fantasyfootballstarters.com/fantasy-football-advice.jsp
Grab a QB in early rounds? Not Favre.

  20. HarrisonHits says: May 22, 2010 11:00 AM

The league won’t be happy about comments like this either. Openly stating they intend to intentionally injure/reinjure Farve or any other player will not be acceptable.

Sharper I used to like you because of those great years as a Vike. But how dare you say that you are gonna try and hurt the legend that is Favre. 22. Brobokil says: May 22, 2010 11:02 AM

The saints didnt even win. With all the cheating and old man beating (something every mother would be proud of), the Vikings beat themselves, not the Saints. You better watch your ass Sharper. You’re about to find out your old ass is a lot weaker than Brett (we saw it in Minnesota). Oh and we are looking FORWARD to week 1, because every one in this state already knows who’s going to win, and it’s not the fake ass wish-we-legitimately-got-to-the-super-bowl Saints.

  40. bakaduin says: May 22, 2010 11:35 AM

Football is a dangerous, and at times dirty, sport. Injuries happen and they happen frequently. That all being said, if you are openly talking about injuring someone and it is this blatant you should atleast get a fine thrown too your name. Football is after all still a sport and that kind of lack of sportsmanship shouldn’t be tolerated. Injuries are always going to happen in such a high contact sport but purposefully injuring someone is a disgrace to the game.

  42. Nevisyakker says: May 22, 2010 11:38 AM

The league issued an apology for the hideous job done by the officials in the NFC championship game. The head of officials said that there should have been at least 8 or 9 more roughing & late hit calls on the saints. The official’s excuse was that it was a playoff game and they wanted to “let them play.”
The officials will go out of their way to make every call this time, and will make the calls on both teams.
Isn’t it great for Sharper, who avoids contact like like a little girl in her best dress, to be talking up his team trying to intentionally hurt Favre. I am sure Brees REALLY appreciates it because “X marks the spot” retaliation will go at the opposing QB not a Free Safety playing 30 yards behind the line.

  43. sadviking says: May 22, 2010 11:38 AM

  44. ItalianStallion says: May 22, 2010 11:38 AM

Pssh, maybe they’ll actually be called for a penalty this time.
I agree with the posters who suggest it’s much more likely that Brees gets hurt in this first game, given he’s on Madden and the Vikes D-line will want some retribution.

  45. vasaints says: May 22, 2010 11:39 AM

Sharper is an IDIOT!!!!! in agreement with the Vikings fans here.
However, stop crying about the NFC loss that Diva lost for you. Brees is going to have that Madden curse, so we are going to have our backup QB ready.
In the end, you Vikings fan will be crying again.

The problem with these comments is two-fold:
    1) The Vikings D will have to get past the Saints O-line to get any hits on Brees at all and Drew takes care of his linemen for taking care of him all season long. Those guys won’t let Brees get touched. Period.
    2) The Vikings coaches are the biggest pussies in the league. Didn’t you hear what Chilly Willy said to NFL Network about GW? What a wimp! This is football, not tennis! Grow a set of nuts! How can your team respect you when you’re such a flaming fairy?

Sharper must have been kidding, as I always thought he was a pretty stand-up guy. If anyone thinks the Thursday night opener with the Saints is a payback game they’re nuts, since that won’t happen until the Vikes meet them in the playoffs again — while the bitter Packer fans watch the game with envy hoping for a Viking loss to help make them feel better after their over-hyped up-and-coming team floundered yet again. Then cheesers will have another off-season futiley attempting to trash the team, players and coaches that were superior to their team yet again. Then again, after listening to two years of low-brow gay and panty cracks by a moronic fan base bitter from finishing second, Viking fans are used to it.

Oh Jimmy, Where do we start…….? The fact that your life is SO boring that you constantly have to post in Vikings threads? No let’s start somewhere else, we can get back to your excuse for a life later. Your posts are just a bunch of words, well when compiled together are entertaining at times, yet pretty ridiculous…. There is a litte truth to your posts however and in this latest one it looks like you have finally “come out” of your purple closet. I don’t know what’s more disturbing the fact that your so familiar with Gay Bar decimal levels in MSP, or the fact that a DBag closet fan like yourself loves my Vikings. After watching your posts on PFT for the past year in ANY Vikings thread I thought it was finally time for someone to stick it to you, instead of always sticking it to your mom.
P.s. Your mom asked me to tell you to clean your room!

The league issued an apology for the hideous job done by the officials in the NFC championship game. The head of officials said that there should have been at least 8 or 9 more roughing & late hit calls on the saints. The official’s excuse was that it was a playoff game and they wanted to “let them play.”
    ———————————–
Do me a favor, post a link to back up your claims here. I don’t remember the league “issuing an apology”. Are you talking about Mike Perriera appearing on his regular NFLN segment. If so where did he say there were 8 or 9 late hits? Funny all these months later you’re claiming the league backs up all your whining about getting robbed.
Post a link to the “apology” please! Post a link to the “8 or 9 late hits” claim, and post a link to where the league admits that they called a playoff game differently than any other game!
Or, just admit to being full of crap! Either way.

The media puts BF in the news and people complain…..guys like sharper have to “put themselves in the media” with stupid comments like this. Sharper has been preparing for a career after football for a few years now (too bad the saints haven’t figured it out with his decline in play….and don’t tell me about his int’s….his coverage skills are zero, he can’t outrun an OL, he’s always been afraid of hitting and tackling. The fact that NO OTHER TEAM showed any interest in him as a free agent this year must mean that 31 teams don’t know as much as saints fans when it comes to sharper’s skills and level of play. ESPN did a profile on yds, pts etc. that sharper was responsible for giving up compared to his “int’s” last year and he was ranked one of the 5 worst in the entire league. enough said.

The only trash are the whiny fans in Minnesota that have been moaning since they LOST a playoff game like the NFL was just supposed to give them a Super Bowl. Bottom line, you met a tougher team and folded once someone punched you in the nose. Too many men on the field, and that interception are why you lost. Man up. Shut up. Pay up.
Saints fans can’t wait till 9/9 either. The Super Bowl Champions can finally shut viking-fan’s mouth. They’ve been running it all offseason. You had a worse regular season record. You lost in the playoffs to a better team. Better QB, Better RB. Better Receivers. Better O-Line. Better CB’s. We’ll give you D-Line and Linebackers. That being said…the better team won. Deal viking-fan.

Question: Why would Saints fans and players like Sharper still be running their mouths? After all, they won.
Answer: They know they were NOT the better team. The refs handed them the game for Katrina Payback. 5 straight terrible calls in OT, plus all the late, low hits on Favre, one of which caused an INT.
Packer fans and players have been threatening to end Favre’s career too, but no one’s been able to do it.

I just don’t think it’s right to speak about deliberately injuring a man to win a game; this isn’t pro wrestling. Football is a violent contact sport; all parties understand that. But when you talk about intentions of hurting people, it’s gone far beyond the game.
I love my Saints, but what’s wrong is wrong, and what’s right is right.

And remain competitive with other NFL teams. How dare ownership try to remain competitive.
There was far more to the boycott, and it was only one outlet that was banned.
So the Viking’s coaching staff got out-coached by a vicoden addict? Wow, they must be pretty bad if they can’t beat Sean Payton stoned.
Is that anything like leaving Tavaris Jackson hanging for most of last offseason telling him to prepare to be the starter when Brad Chillgay already knew Princess Favre was taking his job? Or was it more like when Chillgay made every other player work hard for camp but let Brett skip camp. OR was it like Chillgay ignoring the run game and destroying the career of the leagues best RB because Princess Favre had a hissy fit about not getting to be the star around midseason? There are so many ways that Viking staff has screwed the entire team for the benefit of ONE guy. There is ZERO room for viking fan to criticize any other team about how they treat players. Oh, by the way, Sharper wanted to shop around. The Saints let him. All is good.

This is absolute bull ****. There was no “apology” from the league, and there were not “8 or 9” Favre hits that were late.
    In this
    article
, it explains how three Saints players were fined for FOUR hits in the game. Only THREE of those were hits against Favre. Three of the four hits were actually flagged during the game (so much for your silly assertion that the officials “let them play”. After-the-fact fines from the league happen all the time…you just don’t always here about them. And if being fined by the league makes you a “dirty” player or a “dirty” team…then the Vikings are no “saints” (lol)…can you say JARRED “CHEAP SHOT AGAINST QB” “FINE ME AGAIN” ALLEN?
This issue was addressed by Mike Pereira in this video. In it he explains that both Conference Championship games had a QB getting hit after a handoff. The Saints did it and were penalized 15 yards for it. The Colts did it against the Jets and nothing happened. Gee…I guess the Colts are “dirty” too? He also explains the “Lift and Drive into the ground” penalty…which even the Vikings play-by-play announcer said was a marginal call. And he addresses the hit to Favre’s legs that should have been a penalty but was not called. Now, on that play, the Saints defender makes a move around a Vikings lineman. He is shoved by the lineman, and he impacts Favre as he is falling to the ground. Is it a foul? Under the rules, probably (although it would not be a foul if the official determines that the Vikings player caused the contact by blocking the Saints defender into Favre). Could the Saints player have avoided the hit? Probably not…he was falling down the entire time. He did not purposely dive into Favre’s legs. It was not a “dirty” hit…though it was probably an illegal hit under the current rules.
    In this
video, Pereira explains all the controversial replay calls in the OT – how a catch can hit the ground and still be a catch (under the new rule) as long as the player still has control…how it is nearly impossible to second-guess a spot on video with an airborne player…how that player doesn’t necessarily loose “possession” (and loose the benefit of forward progress) just because the ball was knocked backward but the player still had his hands on the ball (Vikings fans…see the AP non-fumble call in the last Saints-Vikings MNF game).

  111. Satanic Hell Creature says: May 22, 2010 2:57 PM

Most all players want to hit their opponents so hard, they hurt them. Very few want to injure their opponents though. There’s a big difference between the two, and anybody here that’s been involved in contact sports knows the difference. By directly targeting a fresh injury/surgery, Sharper is wanting to cause further injury. There is a fairly tight brotherhood among most players in the league, and they don’t want to jeopadize a fellow player’s career. There are a few P.O.S.’s in the league like Sharper, that would be happy to injure or maim another player in the hopes of winning. I usually never want to see a player get injured, unless they are the “headhunter” types that are trying to injure others. Hearing a player admit he wants to injure another is even worse than seeing it on the field. At least if you only see it on gameday, there is always question if it was intentional or not. If Sharper targets Favre’s lower leg, we know it’s intentional now. Sharper is now, one player that I would not feel bad for if he suffered the worst injury possible on the field, intentionally or not.

Darren Sharper is a PUNK! Whatever happened to being a MAN when playing sports? It is about lining up the BEST vs THE BEST and seeing who can win. If, a player, OR should I say PUNK like Darren SHARPER feels he needs to go for a place on a man’s body that is freshly repaired, then that tells me that he’s lost his ability in Run support, covering the Slot, The TE, and Deep Help, he feels that cheating is his best move.. AND THAT IS CHEATING, because A REAL MAN lines up and gives the other guy something to cry about that he’s never had before, but, a punk doesn’t. ANYone can win after giving a cheap shot, but we have learned here that SHARPER is a PUNK and NOT a MAN!

Darren sharper trying to act cool, wow he is super cool. If i were him i wouldn’t be talking to much shit about that game, the vikings handed them that game on a silver platter. Without there stupidity and players turning it over 7 times (granted only 5 were really lost) it would have been a blow out, i mean how many times has a team gotten 5 turnovers in a game and still barely squeeked out of the game by 3 points in OT. Even with the 5 turnovers and the numerous penalties that were not called on the saints and the bogus 3 calls at the end in OT the vikings still almost won. Fact is if Childress wouldn’t have sent 12 guys out that last play they could of ran the ball and had a 40 something yarder to kick to win the game in regulation, but dumb ass childress can’t count and had to put favre in the position to win it with his arm and everyone knows what happened next. Fact is the Vikings manhandled the saints in that game and had they had one less turnover the game wouldn’t have even gone to OT, ya the saints won but if i was sharper that is not a game i would want to be bragging about. Most NFL teams when given 5 turnovers blow the other team out, the vikings were and are the better team anyone can and did see that, the saints got lucky and not to mention had the refs on their side big time especially in OT they blew about 4 calls in a row after the 2nd blown call on that drive you could tell who the refs wanted to win.

Sadly the refs really screwed the pooch all season last year.
From the 1st game costing the Raiders a TD & win to the Super Bowl where they gave the Saints a TD when replays showed no TD
The NFC Championship was such BS the head of officials apologized for missed calls on the NFL Network 2 days later
A lot of good that did when you just ignored late hits & low hits which where supposed to be called every time as a personal foul
The refs handed the NFC Champ to the Saints on a silver platter & the Saints still almost lost
Look into the refs bank accounts

    *
MR Sharper if you think cheating is the way to go, then you are going to have a bigger problem; You see we know where you park at practice everyday, we know where you park at night, we know where you go out to eat, we know which room you are staying in on the road, we know the endorsements you have, we know things about you that you could never guess about, we know everything about you Darren Sharper… We take your money at the cash register, we sell you airline seats, we wash your car, we mow your yard, we press your clothes, we cash your check! A few thoughts…
Anyone criticizing Sharper for his “grammer” please drink a gallon of anti-freeze at the first possible opportunity.
Anyone hoping for some sort of kharmic payback on Favre’s behalf, maybe the NFCCG was HIS payback for a dangerous, illegal block he was fined for in a meaningless pre-season game earlier in the season. Yes folks, Gramps Favre likes to play dirty, even when it doesn’t matter in the least. So all you whiny losers should apply the same standard to Favre as you do to anyone other player or coach you deem “dirty”. The same goes for any Vicodin related comments. I can think of a certain qb having issues with that very drug. If you can’t judge them all the same, then either shut up overall or see my earlier instructions regarding anti-freeze.
Anyone expecting AP to exact some sort of terrible vengeance on Sharper, you’d be better off hoping AP doesn’t have another multiple fumble game in the Superdome again. Expect an even more hostile environment this time around.
And finally, how sad and embarassing for any Viking fan to be reduced to pre-menstrual quivering pile of flesh most of them now seem to be. Didn’t they used to pride themselves on being in the “black and blue” division ?
PS Congrats to the HowIronic poster on being a Viking fan that appears to have a working pair of gonads who also understands the realities of the game. Sadly, you seem like one of the few.

Congrats to the Saints for winning the 2009 Super Bowl. They deserved it. They were in trouble the last quarter of the season, but got it together during the bye week. The SB win was amazing- a great gameplan, executed perfectly. However, don’t forget that they got lucky along the way. If the Packers beat the Cardinals, the Packers would have destroyed the Saints. The Saints did not beat the Vikings in the NFC Championship; the Vikings beat themselves and any team that calls themselves professional would have taken advantage of that opportunity. Real champions do it the hard way, i.e. the Giants in 2007 and the Steelers in SB Bettis (XL), winning EVERY GAME on the road from the wild card to the Super Bowl.
Despite that, it’s a new season, boys. The Saints, with their pill addicted coach and the mouth these never-done-nothing’s have, will have a bullseye on their back all year. The Panthers will be a lot better; The Giants will win the NFC East; The Packers will be vastly improved; and most importantly, The Vikings will be monsters this year (not even a Vikings fan). The Saints are one injury from going 5-11, and most likely will go 9-7 this year. So “Who Dat?” Who Dat is a one-and-done team.

  157. SpankyMcWanky says: May 23, 2010 4:59 PM

I still don’t understand why some people think the Vikings were a great team. When it counted the most to them, they turned the ball over A LOT (sometimes unforced), they made a lot of mistakes, they were out-coached, they had a statistical edge in the game (at least in terms of yards) and they had the overall edge in personnel on the field and DIDN’T get the job done. Great teams don’t blow it in crunch time.
Too many of you don’t want to accept that a team is more than just the people on the field, but its the people on the sidelines who call the plays and prepare the team during the week. It should be obvious to almost everybody that coaching decisions can change a game — the on-side kick in the super bowl, belichick going for it on 4th down, Chilly sending in the 12th man at the end of the NFCC game, etc… should be example enough as to the importance of making good coaching decisions. The Saints out-coached those teams with better talent and worse coaches. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: “The man who can do more with less can beat the man who does less with more:” Coach Payton and Williams has done more with less while coaches Childress and Caldwell did less with more. The better TEAM won those games because the Saints’ coaches had their team mentally ready and schematically ready to play — the turnovers against the Vikings and lack of penalties at bad times, and the Tracy Porter pick-6 in the SB should verify this belief.

  158. intenseoverheavy says: May 23, 2010 6:10 PM

Kappy, what’s the logic the Packers would have gone to NO and beat the Saints? Wasn’t Rodgers tied for most sacks last year? If the Cardinals can put up 50+ on the Packers you might want to rethink about how they match up to the Saints’ even better offense and aggressive defense. It wasn’t that long ago GB came to the Dome and lost 51-29, to a Saints team not nearly as complete or aggressive as it was this past season.

All things I saw during Katrina like looting (not food and water mind you, new TVs — the number one thing you need when you have no power), and people being dumb enough to stay in a city below sea level when that much water is coming at it, I’m sure was just an exaggeration.
So, to the perfect team in the perfect city with its perfect fans, congratulations and enjoy raising your Superbowl championship banner in the Superdome. It should look great right next to the one that says “Home of the World’s Largest Gang Rape”.

Also, especially after Sharper’s comments, I hope the Vikings defenders try to return some of these cheap shots to NO’s star QB.
If the Vikings put a hit on the back of Drew’s knees very late with the force put on Favre’s it would most likely put him out for a few weeks. I’d like to see this attempted. It is dirty but you have to protect your own guy and sometimes that means making an example out of a dirty team.

  175. Kamakiriad says: May 24, 2010 6:32 PM

Is this crazy-town? Football common-sense to follow.
Seriously…5 hits on the QB. 3 were flagged. The Saints wore down Favre with pressure, like a good D does to win.
Minnesota giving 5 turnovers. Three of those were forced. Saints take advantage and win. That’s what teams are supposed to do. If you get more than 3 turnovers, you are supposed to win. The Saints did.
Minnesota made crucial mistakes. Saints took advantage…again, exactly how things are supposed to go. Minnesota had 12 on the field. Favre threw a fundamentally wrong pass to the middle that was picked.
When a team loses a game, they have no one to blame but themselves. What I hear from Minnesota fans is a lot of finger pointing outward. In reality point that finger at your players. You got no pressure on Brees. You coughed up the ball 5 times. Your QB threw a critical pick. Your kicker was sub-par. Your O-Line allowed too much pressure on your QB.
The better team that day DID win. Better luck next year.

I’m not going to waste the time to find the thread, but you should have seen the Vikings fans railing on the Packers after Rodgers fumble. He was clearly dragged down by his facemask, and clearly took a helmet-to-helmet shot on the play before, but I reviewed the post and 9 out of 10 Pack fans basically said, “Well, tough break, but when you give up 51 you don’t deserve to win.”

Im so proud that my vikings have 4 of the top 10 most commented articles on PFT.com. Just goes to show how many Vikes/Favre haters there are out there. Internet crap talkers…………………….
Except none of those topics are about Vikes/Favre “hate”. One of them is a competitor talking a little smack, one of them is confirmation of another one about surgery and the last one is about the Starcaps situation. Not exactly what you suggest or anything to be especially proud of. And this topic is filled with way more Saints “hate” than anything. A Superbowl win brings lots of empty jealousy ya know?

If I was Farve, I’d gun the ball right at Shaper’s nuts… and yell “X Marks the Spot”.
Anyone else think Brettney would miss anyway?

Enjoy the oil spill New Orleans! Who dat going get hit by that oil spill?!?
    —————————–
Jesus Christ on a popsicle stick. The oil spill stuff has gone too far. Keep it to football, or at least to people commentary, but for all that is sacred, man, people died, a viable marine ecosystem is being utterly destroyed, and you say crap like this? Stay Classy guy. I hope real Viking fans look down upon you, and shake their heads in disgust. How would you like a “Enjoy driving over the Minneapolis 35W bridge to your death” post?”

Misguided hate for NOLA because your coach let 12 men in the huddle in the most important moment in his career; and then he molested some wayward children to make himself feel better.

Notice how every time the Saints gave the Vikings a chance to win, they never did anything with it?
Even before the NFC championship game, all the Vikings had to do was win 2 of their last 3 games and it’s at the Metrodome.

    NO, Louisiana lovers…
    Oil spills and Katrina.

JimmySmith says: “The conspiracy theories that were started after the Vikings lost the NFC championship game (which was the 5th NFC championship game loss leaving the Vikings with an 0-5 record for those keeping score at home) will be fueled to another level beyond the grassy knoll into Area 151.”
How old are you? Not that its a proud record… but the vikes are also 0-4 in the SB… meaning they have 4 wins in the NFC Championship Game… for those keeping track at home… thats 4-5… and Area 151? Is that the alien place or where rum is made? GW is a cheap shot artist… SP is a thiefing drig addict and you should probably go change your diaper!!!

Why do all of you Who Shats think that only Vikings fans dislike the Shats?
Your douchebag owner, coach, players and fans make it easy to dislike you.
