I wonder if the 100 pills were visible, and if not then what was the probable cause to search the car? If there were someone familiar with the law that wrote articles for this site, you might expect that information to be available.

100 vicodin—– does not equal someone using a non-Rx opiate. Of course the copes report is going to state the driver “consented” to a search of his vehicle.

i dont understand why that guy got busted for carrieng pain pills , does not make sense . i am very sure the way the have to play the be hurting at the end of the game . the dident say that he was selling them . that would be a diferend story , but its not illigal to carry pain medication where ever you go ,millions of people do that . and the dont get pulled over .

After reading the comments left by readers regardng this situation, I don’t see any reason why there should be a court appearance. Many have found the accused inocent – even without knowing the facts of the case. A pre-requsite to being a good jurist.
Some of you also show the legal knowledge, that takes a police officer months of training to learn, to declare a person’s rights when stopped for violating the law.
Does this mean we now can reduce our law enforcement and legal strength and save some money?

For Torrey(FYI) If you took 500mg of vicodin you would probably be dead.If you look on the bottle you will see it say’s 5/500 thats means 5mg of vicodin and 500mg of asprin or some other buffer. Same thing with a 7.5/750 that means 7.5mg of vicodin 750mg of asprin or buffer.So dont pump yourself all up just because you can take one 5mg vicodin and you can handle it that’s not a big dose.

Really iTorrey? Must not be a parent..
1) Doesn’t matter, no prescription to have the controlled substance.
2) Doesn’t matter. See #1.
3) Doesn’t matter, the posted limit is the law. Go over it and you are breaking the law.
4) Just because you weren’t recently asked by an officer in your area for anything other than your license and registration does not mean an officer from a different area would not ask if there is anything illegal in the car.
The fact he was in a school zone (usually kids in those areas) when he got pulled over might have made him act oddly or maybe he was questioned on his intentions there and had no good reason.
Who knows how or why .. it wasn’t told in the article and is pure speculation at this point.

He is an athlete making millions, playing football on a pro team that I am sure caters to it’s players. Are you telling me he couldn’t get himself a prescription for the pills? If he needs them, be like everyone else and get a script from one of the numerous team doctors you have access to.
Plus, if he was an addict he would fail his mandatory random drug tests if he was on them.
As for your question on why he can chug kegs of beer. He can do that because it is legal, that is why it is different.
Bottom line, controlled substance and speeding in a SCHOOL ZONE. He should face whatever the penalty is for breaking the laws.
There are laws for a reason and if you can’t follow them, you should be arrested.
It humors me how people get so mad about all the laws until they need them to benefit themselves, then they are the greatest things ever put into place… hypocrites.

Empire Jones is right. I used to take Vicodin ES to control a very painful back injury and was prescribed 120 pills (4 pills per day for 30 days)
monthly.
The police statement that 100+ Vicodin is an unusually high number of pills for a pharmacist to distribute is a grossly incorrect statement that borders on the ignorant.

Libertarian speaking….
1. Was he on the drug while driving?
2. If yes, was he impaired? I have a pretty high tolerance for Vicodin myself and taking one 500mg pill doesn’t impair me so even if he was ‘on it’ was that the result of his speeding?
3. How far over the limit was he speeding?
4. Why did the officer suspect there was something in the car worth searching? I recently was pulled over and the cop just asked me for my license and registration and insurance and told me he got me for speeding and was going to come back with a ticket. Why was this different?
5. Is the policeman a doctor or pharmacist? Regardless of the man’s not have a prescription for this drug the article states “it was an unusually large amount of pills for a pharmacist to distribute”. That is a judgement call. Given that people in extreme pain can be told to take two pills every four to six hours the number of pills doesn’t seem that excessive. Again, I recognize he didn’t have a prescription but the officer’s statement is a judgement call that is wrong.

This man shouldn’t do a minute of time. Take away that I don’t think that drugs should be illegal and that only actions should be illegal if they take away the liberty of others or severely endanger the liberty of others and let’s assume that I agree that the drugs should only be given out by a doctor.
The drugs are addictive and even people on doctor’s orders get addicted (and then begin seeking). He should be treated for drug addiction and that’s all. Why should he spend time behind bars when he harmed nobody and took the liberty away from nobody?

If your going to advertise that, you may want to reference the fact that what you’re suggesting is also an addictive substance, therefore taking an addict from one addiction to another.
It works, but you have to be weened off of this medication just like you would anything else. No different than being on vicodin and the doctor weening you off of them.

Agree with @strctlyo. The Supreme Court had a ruling on police searches of cars recently. Hmm… what was that decision again? Oh yeah, they need to have a justifiable reason beyond the traffic stop to search the car.
I bet the evidence gets tossed in pre-trial motions and charges are then dropped.

I was prescribed Vicodin after ACL reconstruction several years ago, and that crap was horrible. It gave me the most bizarre dreams (when I could sleep) and I felt like tarantulas were crawling on me. I stopped after about 3 doses and threw that crap out
