Marion Barber looks as good as ever at OTAs

After a couple months of speculation that the Cowboys could trade or bench running back Marion Barber, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones gushed about Barber today, saying he looks as good as ever at organized team activities.

“I know this: He looks quicker,” Jones said, per Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com. “I think that is going to make him even more effective. He’s just in great shape. He looks as good out here just in these initial practices as I’ve seen him look in his career. You could easily go from there and look at what his role might be, and it’d certainly be on par with anything he’s done.”

As of the Cowboys’ minicamp the weekend after the NFL draft, Felix Jones had become the Cowboys’ No. 1 running back. But Jerry Jones says he’s happy with having Barber, Jones and Tashard Choice all in the running back mix.

“We’re in really good shape there,” Jones said. “We’ve just got to plan on before it’s over using three backs. I think it will bear out that way.”

  1. Marion Barbers skills haven’t diminished, please offer us something for him. Your friend, Jerry Jones.

  2. Now if the boys could only use some of the leather from Jurrah’s face, maybe the NFL will let them play with 3 balls? Otherwise, no way they keep all those “personalities” happy….
SCHISM in big d this year, book it!

  3. who cares,
Darrius Heyward Bey looks great in OTAs
    Even Jamarcus Russell..
    Barber is a tool

  4. so do all RB’s haha wait til the pads come on. he’ll fall apart like he always does..

  5. Well, May is the month that you want to be impressing the coaches and owner. That’s all that matters.
May practice updates with shorts and no pads = useless.

  6. …and may he accidentally stomp on Albert Hateswoth’s face as the ‘Boys roll over the foreskins this year.

  7. I hope he has a good year. I have always hated the Cowboys, but I like Barber. He is a tough running back and a appears to be a hard worker.

  8. Jerry Jones is a tool. I can’t wait to see him seethe as the 49ers play in the Super Bowl in his palace!

  9. What Jerrah means is, “Barber is available.” Any time an owner kisses a player’s ass this time of year he’s looking to deal.

  10. M. Barber senior isn’t too happy that Jerry gave the #1 job to his own bastard son Felix.

  11. I know the drill that Jerry is referring to.
    The Football Gangta Drill.
    1) The player gets a huge paycheck, which starts the stopwatch, and runs as fast as he can to the bank to get straight cash, homey!
    2) The player runs to the mall, buys some really bad (but expensive) suits, and some really gaudy bling.
    3) The player gets a really nice car, and then paints it a really stupid color and gets his name embroidered on the seats, then lends it to a drug dealer he went to school with. Then, he denies it was his.
    4) Player goes to scrip club and makes it rain.
    5) The player runs to a motel, snorts a line and bangs a hooker.
    6) The player picks up the phone to call his attorney before the cops come, stopping the clock.

  14. Say what you want about Barber and the boys, but he has hands down the best nick name in sports, Marion the barbarian…

The 49ers will play in the SuperBowl? hahahaahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

    WTF Jerry?

  17. Barber’s running style has actually saved his legs. He uses his hands to engage the defender early to force them to try to take him on up high.
I think he had been in the league 3 years before I ever saw a defender get a clean shot at his legs.

Wow! Cowboy’s fans are really that dumb. He’s referring to the pukes horrendous playoff record for about the last 14 years or so.
*It’s actually 1-6 I believe. Either way, can you say perennially overrated!
It wouldn’t be suprising to see the Cowboy’s in last place this year in the East.

That sure is an oxymoron if I have ever seen one.

Kinda like the entire Eagles team… 3 times last year?

1-7 in last 8 playoffs games
1-6 in last 6 playoff trips..
    same difference 🙂

  22. For those who haven’t noticed, our friend Opie, got a new word for his birthday. The word is “schism”. He asked for a girlfriend, but got a word instead. This word can only be applied to the Cowboys. Should anyone wish to comment on, let’s say, the turmoil that Albert Haynesworth has created in Washington or the number of Ravens skipping OTAs, you will need to refer to that as “derisive” or possibly “creating a cleft”, anything but “schism”. “Schism” cannot be used. I think there are some copyright laws involved. Thank you and have a nice day.

  23. @ Big Tex: The reason I choose “schism” is that there are so many of you that pray at the altar of Jerruh in that monestary he had built. Blind faith in a false religion and so, by definition, schism fits.
I could use discord, but it’s not strong enough. Or aperture, but not many would get the reference and it sounds like you should order some wine and cheese with it.
Of course, the other reason is that it was used so much, in other postings by the host, in regards to other situations that were blown out of proportion……
Never the less, the ‘boys have dissension within their ranks. One playoff win in 10 years will do that to a team that finds this level of success…..

  24. So if you have quality depth, that creates a “schism” in your eyes? BTW, the ‘Boys also have the highest winning percentage of any team in the league.

  25. I guess it depends on your definition of “quality depth.” Prima dona WR wanting more money or puking during voluntary OTA’s is what causes schisms.
The OLine is just old and not very deep, completely different point.

  26. It is common sense that these RB’s at some point would want to stop sharing so many carries
They are getting older and want more of a roll and none will get it as all 3 RB’s will share some time
Barber used to get all the goal-line carries but I doubt he will be happy if anyone else gets goal-line carries

  27. @ manofaiki:
“Say does anybody remember who had the #2 offense in the NFL last year?”
“If so, could somebody explain how that offense got WORSE this offseason?”
    ____________________________
Those rankings are based solely on yards gained and not points scored. Not that I’m crapping on gaining yards, but points scored is just as important.
As to how a team could get worse:
    a) older, lack of depth OLine
    b) 3 RB where the backups are better than the starter
    c) WR drama
    d) tougher schedule = better defenses (in theory)
All I’m saying is that there are definite questions of concern. Plus, in all actuality, the 2nd best offense only got 1 playoff win. So, there must be something to points scored vs. yards gained…..maybe they just had very poor field position most of the year?
