Bowe claims he was misquoted, ESPN says it has a tape

It’s been more than a week since we first passed along the ESPN The Magazine story in which Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe said some of his teammates arranged for there to be “a girl in every room” of the team hotel.

The story still hasn’t gone away. And Bowe made comments today that will serve only to keep the story alive a little longer.

Bowe told reporters in Kansas City that he was “misquoted” by ESPN The Magazine, adding, “The way he took it was totally not the way that I said it. It’s over now.”

But now that Bowe has issued the “misquoted” accusation, ESPN will have no choice but to either stand by its story or recant. So while Bowe can say it’s over now, it’s actually not over now at all.

And ESPN The Magazine editor Gary Belsky told The Pitch that he has a tape of Bowe’s conversation with one of his writers. ESPN ought to post the full audio of the Bowe interview on ESPN.com and put to rest once and for all whether Bowe was misquoted.
