If he hadn't come back to the Redskins for Gibbs 2.0, he might have some credibility.
Since he did.. And he was awful.. He needs to zip it!
You are an idiot! Gibbs wasn't awful when he came back. 2 playoffs in 4 years with someone else's players. A lot of people don't realize how close he was to getting back on top. The only reason he quit after 4 years was the death of Sean Taylor was too much for him to take being a religious man and all. I think that was the nail in the coffin for his coaching career.

I'm sayin' YOU couldn't carry the man's lunch from his car to his office without trippin' over your own feet.....how were you confused by that statement?
------------------------
So are you saying Gibbs eats a hell of a lot or that I have huge feet? Please explain.
And follow that up with an in-depth explanation of the wisdom of passing 50 times in high wind.
I never tried to make the case that Gibbs doesn't know his shit. I said it sounds like an awful game plan.

If a team makes it to the SB because they have an awesome passing attack (let's say 70% of their offense) and the outside weather and stadium conditions make the passing game next to impossible, than that is a problem. If this happens, as a viewer, I will never support an north outside SB again. Of course, I will watch the replays of the SB commercials and boycott those products for at least 12 months. I would also boycott any NFL products for a reasonable period of time. I think New York has lined some NFL owners and front office pockets with lot's of $$$. Just the way it is in the USA today.

I am a Redskins fan but it wasn't the wind that troubled us in that game. It was that it wasn't one of the better Redskin teams playing against one of the best defenses of the past 30-years.
The Giants were the best team that year, they deserved to win the Superbowl. Gibbs did an amazing job getting that roster as far as he did. It would have been closer in warm weather but it wouldn't have changed who won.

Gibbs is obviously a pansy.
Get tough, people! Cold weather separates the wheat from the chaff when it comes to NFL football. Who really wants it and who can't wait until it's all over.
I think it is very safe to say that if all Super Bowls had been played in cold weather over the last 45 years, the games would have probably been much closer, and better.

We just need a Super Bowl like the 2007 Dolphins vs. Steelers game, where the 0-0 tie was broken by a Jeff Reed field goal with 17 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, to seal the deal on this experiment.
Yes, football is an outdoor game, but the average fan, like Mike Florio's aunt, will not watch a 3-0 Super Bowl. Advertisers will not pay $2 mil per 30 seconds. And, the NFL will abandon the idea forever more.
------------------------
OH NOES!!!! We can't have the ad money dry up!! There isn't enough money in this league as it is!

"But Gibbs does have a valid point that the weather had a huge effect on that game. The Giants actually kicked off at the start of both halves because they won the coin toss and chose to take the wind. ---------------------------
They averaged 3.0 yards a pass? Not by my math. 20 - 50 for 195 yards. That's not 3.0 yards per pass.
And why in the hell do you pass the ball 50 times in high winds? Sounds like Gibbs had a great game plan.

I put Joe Gibbs in the same category as disco: I didn't like 'em back then, and I don't like 'em now. Also, I'm shocked by the number of supposed football fans posting to this site who are actually concerned that the Superbowl halftime show will be adversely affected by the weather. The halftime show? Really? I always thought the halftime show was the time to go and do something else until the game comes back on.

Oh WAAAAAA so if the had the wind against you for two quarters, that means you had it with you the other two. And that somehow the Giants delt with it the two quarters they had the wind against them, while you couldn't coach your team well enough to handle it whether the wind was with you or you were going into it.
Sour grapes.
Can we PLEASE stop pussifying the sport and the fans ? Cold weather is part of football. NFL fans are not all totally frail people who can't stand being outside for more than 30 seconds in the cold. I don't give a shit if the corporate hacks who buy some of the SB tix to give to clients want it to be 70 degrees and sunny. If I wanted to watch a pussy sport that was afraid of weather I'd watch MLB.

Ghost just posted my sentiment exactly:
"Jesus Florio, can you seriously stop posting this inane rubbish. I never criticise the site, as you provide a great free service, but however slow a newsday it is the persistence with this topic is incredibly dull."
Also I wanted to tell you guys that my neighbor down the street was telling me about a bad winter they had in Wisconsin once. Really awful. I can post more about it here if you're interested... oh wait, you're not. Got it.
As an ex-NBC employee, the whole state of PFT makes me wonder about starting a competing service. This site is almost beyond repair.

I don't get why everyone keeps saying New York Pro Bowl/Super Bowl...........it's New Jersey, different state. In fact the Jets and Giants should never call themselves New York Jets, New York Giants. They play in New Jersey, isn't that misreprensentation?? The only NFL team from New York is the Buffalo Bills. The Jets and Giants can stay in that cese pool of a state New Jersey and change their name to New Jersey Jets and New Jersey Giants. Funny, it's the only two teams in the NFL that play in a different state and take a different state's name.

I remember that game. They had Schroeder throw 50+ times even though the attempts were totally ineffective and he got absolutely murdered by the pass rush during the game. I played his guts out though.
So what's the point here? Skins lost to the better team, it happens.
