I hope this reaches Mike Florio, though I doubt it will.
1. The Panthers give all their scouts contracts until June every two years.
2. This was hardly a surprise considering every scout got extensions last year and Pete Russell did not. So, if he thought he’d be with the team after June, well, lets just say he was the only one. So, why is it so unfair if he knew last year?
3. Please do a little reporting and you’ll have discovered that we have three scouts older than Russell on the team. So what makes you say they are going for youth in the scout department?
4. This article just made me lose respect for you as a reporter. Because, you officiously didn’t report accurate information but, “juicy” information. Looks like you have no clue what’s going on.

Maybe Pete was Florio’s inside source for the Panthers. Maybe that’s why he’s taking this personal. If Pete was the source, then he deserved to got fired.

First off, Russell wasn’t fired, his contract wasn’t renewed, so Florio can stop the Martha Ray impression. Why he wasn’t he resigned, I have no idea; perhaps it was to save money or he parked in JR’s parking space. Still I think they can let a contract laspe without it becoming a federal case.

I do not understand your reasoning. There may be an immediate off-season for scouts, but it will pick up quickly enough this summer. How many are fired before the draft? Is something you have numbers on? Maybe they had problems relying on his information during the draft and felt they had to make a move. There are a number of scenarios possible here, but since you seem convinced of your theory of choice rather than trying to do some reporting, I will not bother continuing in this vein.

Besides what I said previously, if the scout was fired then he had at least one more year left on his contract of which he will collect 100% assuming he was not fired with cause. He still has a long time to go before he will HAVE to start collecting a paycheck again and in the meantime he can be looking or interning for his not job.

Panthers fire Russel.
We don’t know why.
THE PANTHERS ARE IDIOTS FOR FIRING HIM BECAUSE OF HIS DESIRE TO BRING IN YOUNG PLAYERS IS STUPID!
But we still don’t know why they fired him.
BUT THEY ARE STILL STUPID FOR DOING IT FOR THE REASON THAT I JUST MADE UP!!!

But keep trying to get the Redskins to trades Haynesworth. They have an owner who tends to buy into media more than Mr. Richardson does.

It isn’t unfair, these scouts that get fired after the draft have put in an entire year’s worth of work leading up to the draft, firing them before the draft would be stupid in two different ways.
#1 They may need to continue the scouting process on athletes
#2 They hold important information that teams would not want given out by the fired agents.
