Shiancoe expects Favre back, warns Sharper on "X marks the spot"

Minnesota Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe thought the same thing everyone else thought when news surfaced that Brett Favre had ankle surgery last week: Favre is coming back.

I think that’s some promising news,” Shiancoe said, per Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com. “Why’s he getting ankle surgery? That’s the first thing that came through my mind. Seems like he got it for the season, because that’s what he needed to come back to the Vikings.”

Shiancoe sounds thrilled to play with Favre again, even if he’s going to have to wait until after training camp for Favre to arrive.

“It’s like everything just jelled together once he came — it was like he was the missing link almost. He basically brought out like the talent in a lot of guys on the team. People excelled through that — he was almost like the orchestrator of this whole offense, and also, Favre brought up the morale of the team as well.”

Responding to Saints safety Darren Sharper’s “X marks the spot” comment about Favre’s ankle, Shiancoe pointed out that he and his teammates could say the same about Sharper’s knee.

“That’s all good, but Sharper had surgery, too . . . and it was the knee,” Shiancoe said. “If X makes the spot on Brett, I wonder what marks the spot on Sharper.”

And I’m one of those guys that loathes people wishing injuries upon others. Sharper… to each your own. Torpedohead.

Sharper can’t spell “X” let alone figure out what spot it marks.

  16. Phreakin says: May 27, 2010 2:08 PM

Sadly if they took out Sharper it would mean way less to the Saints then it would if Favre got took out. Sharper proves what a class act he is though.

  17. Ilovefoolsball says: May 27, 2010 2:14 PM

Shiancoe should try to do his own “topkill” on the hole that’s located on his face. Good luck on hitting Sharper’s X, he’s a roaming safety, Favre is a sitting target.
That’s the great thing about football players, they’re millionaires making statements that a 12 year old would normally say. It’s because they’ve been coddled all their life and never really grew up.

  18. CaptainMarvel says: May 27, 2010 2:15 PM

Why would Sharper run his mouth like that? After all, they won. The answer is: Sharper and everyone knows that the Saints only beat the Vikings because of Katrina Payback. 5 terrible calls in OT. Not to mention the late, low, cheap shots on Favre – 1 of which caused a pic. With fair officiating the Vikes would have had a 1st down deep in Saints territory and won the game in regulation.

  19. Mean D says: May 27, 2010 2:16 PM

Sharper proves yet again that he is a floating turd.

  20. JimmySmith says: May 27, 2010 2:17 PM

I realize that Visanthe Shiancoe became an Urban legend among the Viking fans when he exposed his Johnson on national TV for the world to see (and the majority of Viking fans to salivate over) but does PFT plan of covering every bowel moment on the team? (where do you think Viking fans come from?)
Let’s see, Jared Allen got a haircut, Brent thinks last year was his best year, T Jack still thinks he should be playing, what’s next? Chilly picks out a new dress down at Macy’s? As for his remarks about Sharper’s knee, does Shiancoe realize that he will actually have to throw a block to even get near Sharper’s knee? Well, there is a first time for everything (with the exception of the Vikings actually winning a Superbowl, that one is out of reach)

  21. Percy Nugz says: May 27, 2010 2:19 PM

Sharper is a punk and the Vikings will murk the Saints. By far the most talented team in the NFL.

  22. CaptainMarvel says: May 27, 2010 2:25 PM

All in OT; Vikings never got the ball: Bad spot on 3rd down. Missed fumble on 4th down, plus forward progress still given. Pass interference on Ben Leber when ball was uncatchable, plus he NEVER TOUCHED HIM. Clear holding of Jared Allen on same play not called – he broke free and was tackled from behind RIGHT in front of Brees – how can you miss that? Catch awarded to Saints receiver when ball was being bobbled AND touched the ground – UPHELD ON REPLAY. And this was just in OT – this doesn’t include the cheap illegal hits on Favre, one of which caused a crucial INT.

  23. Percy Nugz says: May 27, 2010 2:25 PM

I am convinced that JimmySmith is a closet homosexual…. dude do you write gay porn for a living? Every one of your comments is laced with terms like “bowel movement” “Johnson” and “salivating”. you make Packer fans look gay.

  24. Halasfan says: May 27, 2010 2:26 PM

More to the point, Vikings receivers have been doing a good job blocking downfield–Sidney in particular. Some of AD’s longest runs were aided by those downfield blocks. Sharper should know this and keep his head on a swivel.

Hopefully Adrian Peterson or Toby Gerhardt will get Sharper in the open field and bulldoze ‘em over ala Al Harris in the ’08 opener. Shiancoe’s response to that hit was caught perfectly on camera
Oh, and Jimmy, the reason Florio always talks about the Vikings is because:
    A. He’s a fan
and B. The Vikings ACTUALLY make moves and create headlines in the offseason. They don’t just stand still and hope their draft picks pan out. They actually go out and acquire talent, this past offseason was quiet as their roster is full of probowl talent additions from the last 3-4 offseasons (Allen, Favre, Leber, Longwell, Winfield) and they didn’t need to add much.
And despite the stadium, NFL players would much rather play in Minnesota for an ownership willing to spend the money to succeed. Not a bunch of ‘stock-holder’ cow-tippers who gloat about all those world championships they have, even though they’ve won ONE in the last 40 yrs. Guess what, so have the Vikings, they won the last NFL Championship vs the Browns in 1969.

I used to kind of like the Vikings before I came on here and started reading the diarrhea that flows from their fans. I got news for you: SH#T HAPPENS! It happens all the time! SH#T will happen to some other team next year. It’s sports. You’re not special. Nobody has sympathy for you. I used to think Philly had the worst fans in the country, now I’m not so sure. So stop harping on last season and start focusing on this one.
I would hate to see what all the Vikings fans would act like if they did actually win a Superbowl.

No but thanks for asking. I work in a creative field so I am surrounded by Viking fans, ah, I mean gay people. Not that there is anything wrong with being gay but like any other stereotype, they do have their tendencies, they tend to favor the color purple, they don’t know the first thing about football although they claim to be an expert, they whine and bitch about the smallest stuff.
Now does any of that sound fimilar? You are right, the attributes above represent the average Viking fan. The move to LA can’t come soon enough.

Captain Marvel: This is exactly how I saw it!! I think the worst call of all was the 4th down spot..GREENWAY absolutely DESTROYS pierre thomas…Ball comes lose he gains control at his waist…which was at least 1/2 yard short of 1st down…everyone in the world could see it..even Saints fans have to say they got a lucky spot on that one…..and the REFS still give him the first down!! The Leber pass int. call was pretty bad too especiall on a 3rd and 9..ball 7 ft to the right and 4 feet over the head of the reciever…and you are correct LEBER never laid a SINGLE FINGER on the receiver..TOTAL GARBAGE!!!

  49. awoods1906 says: May 27, 2010 3:13 PM

What’s worse is the fans actually belive that these guys are going out trying to hurt each other. All this talk is just that talk – at the end of the day, barring a few fools, most players talk but shake handes and play ball. It would not surprise me if this game is one of the cleanest games in this upcoming season.
Favre and Sharper have a reportedly good relationship – that comment is actually for idiots like the bloggers to feast on. And oh yeah Shancoe is the same guy that said he would have done something had he known what was happening – guess he played in a different stadium.

  50. WHODAT says: May 27, 2010 3:17 PM

Even if you did beat us do you really think you could’ve beat the Colts in the SB???? Highly unlikely with the CB’s the Vikings have and their bumbling fumbling idiot of a RB “AP”…. Champions don’t fumble that much and throw stupid interceptions in the 4th with the game on the line… “THIS ISN’T DETROIT MAN!!” AHAHAHAHAHHA!!!
Oh and i like how Favre was telling his teammates “LET’S WIN THIS GAME BLA BLA BLA THEN GO TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!” HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
    DIKEQUEENS ARE TRASH!!!

  51. JimmySmith says: May 27, 2010 3:19 PM

Listen to you bitches cry about spilled milk. I saw the same game and the spot for the first down was correct, right down to the inch. The ball was not fumbled and you don’t need to touch the receiver to get a PI call, he was waiving his hand in the receiver’s face while never looking back at the ball. I don’t know how to break it to you but that is PI every single time.
But I do enjoy listening to little bitches complain about it, some day you might understand that Brent’s INT, AD’s fumbles, and Chilly’s 12 man on the field all played significant roles in the Viking latest choke job. That’s what the Vikings do best. Not win but choke.

  52. MuskyHunter2542 says: May 27, 2010 3:21 PM

HA! Jimmy you’re hysterical. Can I try your ideology real quick? Let me see if I could make a lot of ‘gay jokes’ based off teams and their uniforms too, take for example the Green Bay Packers. First off there name is the PACKERS! Secondly, they have a giant ‘G’ on the side of their helmet, must stand for Gay right? Have a QB whose name is Aaron and as if that’s not gay enough, their fans cannot let go of previous relationships (with men) i.e. Brett Favre, fans have screamingly queer usernames such as ‘Super-Suckers’ and ‘Dewey-Asshound’. And they (including you, let’s not forget) consistently bring up homoerotic ‘insults’. Any of that sound familiar? Do everyone a favor, eat a bullet.

not only did Leber step on Dave Thomas’ foot, he kicked it. when feet tangle and the receiver is playing the ball and the defender is not, the correct call is defensive pass interference.
but don’t let facts get in the way of your whining.

from the St. Paul Pioneer Press:
The best response from the Vikings came from tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, who pointed out that, “Sharper had surgery too. And it was a knee. If x marks the spot on Brett, I wonder what marks the spot on Sharper?”
Shiancoe, however, said he didn’t take Sharper’s “trash talk” very seriously.
“I think it was a joke,” Shiancoe said. “I know Sharp. That’s my boy. We hang out. It’s like he said before the NFC Championship game, he told me their whole goal was to aim for my knees. And they didn’t do it. I know he talks trash.”

“And despite the stadium, NFL players would much rather play in Minnesota for an ownership willing to spend the money to succeed. Not a bunch of ‘stock-holder’ cow-tippers who gloat about all those world championships they have, even though they’ve won ONE in the last 40 yrs. Guess what, so have the Vikings, they won the last NFL Championship vs the Browns in 1969.”
Sums it up in a nutshell, but you forgot 1 thing. The Vikings hold more division titles than the Packers, Bears, Lions, and Bucs since ’61. Easy to see who owns the division.

Hey hey guys you remember that call with like 2:10 on the the clock in the 2nd and right before the refs blew the whistle that saints player hit jared allen when he was coming off the edge trying to sack Brees but he didn’t touch him because he was blocked with two hands from the saints blocker and the ref blew the whistle.. ya that was cheap.. f-ing saints and Katrina.. jared might have got to him if the refs gave him more time… that game was totally fixed..
Jared shoulda had like 3 sacks that game.. stupid refs.. or that call on second down..
    SHUT THE F-UP

The Vikings ACTUALLY make moves and create headlines in the offseason. They don’t just stand still and hope their draft picks pan out. They actually go out and acquire talent, (Allen, Favre, Leber, Longwell, Winfield)
    ————————————–
The guys you named have one thing in common, they are OLD!
Green Bay has a talented young team-the Vikings are a year or two from rebuilding. If you get a new stadium, you’re gonna have to pay top dollar to watch a cellar dwelling team.
    ___________
Umm…Jared Allen just turned 28. That’s not old…that’s sorta in his prime.

  70. CanadianVikingFan says: May 27, 2010 4:23 PM

Hahah, Shiancoe is awesome. If Sharper goes for Favre, you can expect the team to tee off on Sharper.
AP’s helmet to Sharpers knee, which one gives way?
Place your bets ladies and gentlemen.

Sharper can’t hear him due to his Super Bowl rings being in his ear.
The Vikings made a comment about hurting Brees a month or so ago….why are they mad when the Saints fire back?
Do they want to say they are going to hurt others but no one can do that to Favre?
    Yet another Favre exception?

  73. Kay Bee says: May 27, 2010 4:33 PM

    You left this out…of course:
“I think it was a joke,” Shiancoe said. “I know Sharp. That’s my boy. We hang out. It’s like he said before the NFC Championship game, he told me their whole goal was to aim for my knees. And they didn’t do it. I know he talks trash.”

  74. nps6724 says: May 27, 2010 4:33 PM

So did the refs also spike the Vikings’ Gatorade, threaten them with mob hits, kick their dogs, and poke them in the eyes?
I swear, you Queens fans blame the refs for every single thing. It’s embarrassing.

And stay off these blogs, that’s the best advice I can give you.

  80. Chilldress10 says: May 27, 2010 6:18 PM

OK…..JUMMY or JIMMY..whatever your name is>>>so you can HONESTLY say the Pierre Thomas had TOTAL and COMPLETE control of the ball the whole time? and they gave him the right spot “down to the inch” based on having complete control of the ball?? Please let me know cause I saw the ball squirt from AT LEAST his shoulders down to his waist..that is what I saw and if you could PLEASE explain why the ball was spotted where it is cause I thought you had to have COMPLETE control of the ball to get forward progress.

  81. Chilldress10 says: May 27, 2010 6:27 PM

I tried to look up the Burt Emmanuel Rule…couldn’t find it..please let me know!! It just sucks when the refs screw the game up..especially in OT…let em play and I DON’T CARE what anyone says…David Thomas was not catching that ball…hell MOSS might..MIGHT have caught that in 1998 or 1999!!! thats a fact..that was a VERY HIGH throw and let me remind WAY BEHIND him…like prolly 8 feet behind him!!
All I am saying is let the boys play ball…what happens if the ref doesn’t call the QUESTIONABLE, at best, Pass Interference call…I would bet the vikes could drive the ball down into field goal range cause the VIKES only had 515 yards of TOTAL OFFENSE!! Thats what I am saying…and ya know what..maybe AP fumbles..but at least let them play!!
Don’t make that call in OT on a championship game unless it is on purpose!! especially on 3rd and 9..come on..
EVEN the HEAD REF said that there were calls that were screwed up and that gave the saints the advantage…so if he knows the calls where bad…his opinion is all that matters at the end of the day!!!!!

  82. Chilldress10 says: May 27, 2010 6:28 PM

Can’t Wait for the opener!!!! I bet it will be a blood bath and the VIKES will come out on top..you know SHARPER doesn’t want to see AP coming around the corner..alla AL HARRIS!!!!

  84. Chilldress10 says: May 27, 2010 6:36 PM

I honestly believe if those calls happened to go against the Saints or Packers..saints and pack fans would be saying the same thing…those are QUESTIONABLE CALLS at BEST..at BEST…so says the head referee!! Its like the NBA ref that fixed those games for the lakers!! its a fact a call can screw a team over…look at the NBA ref…he screwed the KINGS with just 2 calls!! he even admitted it….that’s why Vikes fans are so mad!!

  85. Chilldress10 says: May 27, 2010 6:54 PM

I did look up the Bert Emanuel rule..that makes sense…I am not complaining about the juggling catch….THAT’s a TOUGH one..and ya gotta give it to him.
Now the 4th and 1…GREENWAY blew Pierre Thomas right up!! BLEW HIM UP!!! the ball ended up at the waist of thomas…now please tell me how you can say his forward progress was past the 1st down marker cause I see a player with maybe possesion of the ball at the first down marker…actually he was losing possesion then regained it a 1/2 yard short of the 1st down!! so PLEASE explain to me if this doesn’t make sense…pull out the rule book…I don’t care but please explain this one!!

  86. SpankyMcWanky says: May 27, 2010 7:00 PM

Wow, is all of PFT pathetic and biased? Why didn’t you write how Shiancoe said he knows Sharper was just kidding and talking trash like Sharper ALWAYS does. Shiancoe admitted that Sharper said to him that the Saints game plan in the NFC Championship game was to go for Shiancoe’s knees, and since that didn’t happen, as admitted by Shiancoe, he knows how Sharper just talks trash.
PFT, I thought just Florio was pathetic, now I’m seeing how virtually all their writers just try to start shit.

One thing I’ve learned is never argue with someone for whom the facts are meaningless. So I won’t spend any time on someone like CaptainMarvel, who clearly doesn’t know or even care what he’s talking about. (Just as one example, he keeps talking about a crucial interception caused by a late hit, when in fact, that late hit WAS called and the interception was nullified.)
The other favorite debate strategies of Vikings fans appear to be, based on what I see on this site:
    1) If I say it’s an indisputable fact, then you really can’t argue with me.
    2) If I claim all Saints fans know I’m right about something, they must really know I’m right, and thus you can’t argue with me.
    3) I can be as biased as I want to be, but anyone who disagrees with me is clearly to biased to be trusted.
So I’m through trying to argue with them. I’ll just listen to them guarantee victory in the rematch — just like they guaranteed the Saints would lose to the Giants, Jets, Patriots and Vikings last year. The funniest thing is they’ll guarantee 100 victories, and if they can just get the 100th one right, it will make up for the 99 they blew.

(Just as one example, he keeps talking about a crucial interception caused by a late hit, when in fact, that late hit WAS called and the interception was nullified.)
ACTUALLY this is COMPLETELY FALSE…Mike McCrary hit FAVRE at the KNEES Favre throws a pick and the SAINTS get the ball at the vikes 37 yard line..and NO it wasn’t called and NO the interception wasn’t NULLIFIED!! Get your facts straight before you post or please don’t post what you don’t know..makes you sound stupid.

You mean like Aaron Rodgers taking a helmet-to-helmet hit on 2nd down and then getting drug to the ground by his facemask on 3rd down in the games defining play (among a laundry list of others.) Look up this thread, “Upon review, Packers got screwed.”
Watch how knowledgable and loyal fans handle their business, then look in the mirror and hang your head in shame knowing you are yet another in a short list of whiners known as Vikings “fans.”

  92. SMITASTIC says: May 31, 2010 1:38 PM

I can’t wait until the Packers pound the queens this year. Hope all you Viqueens fans enjoyed your two gift wins from last year when we were missing 2 starters on the offensive line. Rodgers extracts his revenge!!! P.S. Big surprise Brett “don’t know when to quit” Favre is coming back. Is anyone really surprised, the diva will be doing this until he is severely injured on the field. Yes he will be back next year and so on, Favre just cut the grass and stop planting useless stories in the media.
