Randy Moss apparently has parted ways with long-time agent

nfl_moss1.jpgEarlier this year, Patriots receiver Randy Moss made it known that he doesn’t expect the Patriots to sign him to a contract extension.

It could be that he will be enlisting a new agent to help him try to get a new deal done.  Moss is entering the final year of his contract, during which he’s due to earn a base salary of $6.4 million.

A reader/tipster advised us earlier today that Moss has filed the paperwork necessary to sever ties with Tim DiPiero, who has represented Moss since his career began in 1998.  We’ve indirectly confirmed the development via the absence of Moss on the comprehensive list of players and agents available on the NFLPA website.  Traditionally, active players who are without agents are omitted from the list.

Per the reader/tipster, Moss currently is looking for a new agent.  Under NFLPA rules, five days must pass after the termination before a new agent is hired.

DiPiero first represented Moss in connection with the high school brawl that resulted in his Notre Dame scholarship being pulled.  DiPiero also guided Moss through subsequent legal issues, including a positive marijuana test generated while he was serving a 30-day work-release sentence, which resulted in his dismissal from Florida State and another 60 days on work release.

Moss hired DiPiero after leaving Marshall with remaining eligibility.  DiPiero and his former partner, Dante DiTrapano, represented Moss together, along with Bus Cook.  (According to Cook’s website, Moss also was wooed by the late Johnnie Cochran.)  Moss stuck with DiPiero after issues with drugs resulted in DiTrapano’s incarceration.  (DiPiero was never involved in any allegations of wrongdoing.)

It’s unknown whether Moss separated from DiPiero with any other agent in mind, or whether Moss plans to do a search from scratch.

    This shamefulr idiot screamed at team sponsors, assaulted officials during a game,
    made obscene gestures to paying customers,
    left games earlier,
    claimed to play only when he wants to play,
    assaulted law enforcement personnel with his drug containing vehicle,
    refused to run assigned pass routes,
    was run out of Minnesota,
    was run out of Oakland,
    and is still chicken to play between the numbers on the field.
    No team wants such a worthless character. They want receivers willing to play in the center 2/3 of the field. Bet he is out of the league when his contract is up. Nobody wants a such a negative player.

    come back to the vikings and retire in purple with a super bowl trophy!! i know this is a year away from happening but i know a certain QB that wears #4 and always wanted to play with Moss……

    @Bob Nelson
    LOL. Still butt hurt from him breaking Jerry Rice’s TD record? expect more.

    @Bob Nelson
    You are a joke- Randy is a top 2 or 3 WR of all time- no one wants him? just had 21 tds 3 years ago and is still constantly double teamed every play- which will include this year as well.
    and you forgot he mooned lambeau and all the gay sucky ass packer fans- and appalled stupid joe buck- the most hated announcer in minnesota
    he hasnt had character issues/legal problems since 10 years ago in Minny- he has nothing on TOs loud mouth and complaining, nothing on Brandon Marshall beating his gf and crying to McDaniels, and nothing on Santonio Holmes or any other problem WR in the league.
    Bow down to Moss and the ’98 Vikings

    Randy Moss lives above the law…… and its awesome.

  7. Slow Joe says: May 30, 2010 2:52 PM

    Moss has always been a piece of shit. He’s matured a (very) little now, but he’s definitely lost a step, and without that speed no team is going to put up with his antics.

  8. Blarch says: May 30, 2010 2:54 PM

    Wow. Bob Nelson. You are either an amazing troll or you know very little about Randy Moss.

  9. NFLMMAfan says: May 30, 2010 3:08 PM

    Before and after playing for the Raiders, he has definately put up HOF numbers. In his last year with the Raiders it was stunning to watch Moss cross his arms and stand still when the ball was snapped.
    Not a Raiders hater. Just bad chemistry or mistrust when he was there.

  10. millionwatts says: May 30, 2010 3:10 PM

    Moss can run any route he wants to or doesn’t want to on my team, if he continues to average 1k yards and 12TD. he even gets to decide on which downs he feels like playing.

  11. SeriousRadio says: May 30, 2010 3:10 PM

    It’s funny to see posters rile the Patsies. They are riled all offseason with the attention the Jets and Phins are getting with their new WRs. The Jets got Holmes, the Phins got Marshall, and all the Pats have is their ol’ pouter Moss playing out his contract. Awww, poor Patsies.

  12. WhoDey_Man says: May 30, 2010 3:18 PM

    why the hell is his pantomime mooning of fans SOOOOOOOOOOOO freakin bad? who the hell cares?? especially considering a portion of packer faithful has been known to consistently moon the opposing team’s transportation after games at lambeau. no one cares about those idiots showing their actual asses, but “big bad” randy moss ACTS like he’s mooning the fans and you call for his head?
    “um, hello? kettle? this is the pot. you’re black.”

    Re: Bob Nelson
    Uhhh Bob, it’s seems as though Moss has had a pretty decent 3 years in NE.
    Averaged 83 rec. 1250 + yards, and 16 TD catches, per year, in those 3 years.
    Even Mr. Rice would marvel at those numbers.
    Put the crack pipe down Bob.

  15. Erik A. says: May 30, 2010 3:29 PM

    @Bob Nelson
    Did you watch the Giants-Patriots Super Bowl? All but 2 of Mosses catches were between the numbers, and one of those 2 was a touchdown.
    I seriously doubt it’s because he’s a “chicken shit,” but rather, his coaches have been smart enough to realize that there is little reason for him to run those routes.
    His impact isn’t between the numbers and over the middle. He stretches the field, opens up for other receivers, just ask Nate Burleson.

    Attention Seeing Eye Dog!!! Are you people blind?? Are you talking about the 7 time Pro-Bowler?The same guy who caught 140 TD’s? Almost 900 catches? Future Hall Of Famer? That guy? Lol…your an idiot Bob & others….name a better WR on your team now or ever? Exactly….nobody…who? Nobody!!! LMAO

    Ahh yes, the ’98 Super Bowl Champion Vikings. One of the truly great, most successful winning NFL teams of all time.
    Wait, what’s that? They didn’t actually win anything at all? They were, in fact, just another page in Minnesota’s long history of falling on their face every single time they played a game that mattered??
    Oh well. Move along then. There’s STILL nothing to see here.

    Bob Nelson is just another homo packer fan. Burned by Peterson, burned by Moss and now burned by Favre. Go away moron!

  21. The Pillager says: May 30, 2010 4:40 PM

    calling it first – 2012-2013 season (if there is one) will have Brett Favre throwing deep to Moss/Rice and Harvin underneath – MOSS WILL RETIRE A VIKING!!! – SKOLLLLLLLLL

  22. Matt.Walsh says: May 30, 2010 5:16 PM

    This guys is a beast of a receiver….
    Say what you want about him, but do not forget he played the entire 2009 season with an injured back…never said shit about it…just kept trying to play.
    Brady’s agent will be Moss’s agent….book it!

  23. Franchise says: May 30, 2010 5:19 PM

    Its easy to see only the Packer trolls are pooping out the Moss hate.
    I can understand why. After an absolute ass kicking (and mooning) of the Packer franchise while wearing purple, then not wanting to play at the abyss known as Green Bay, Packer fans feel a bit of anger towards one of the best WRs ever.
    Its OK Packer fans, we know some of you are smarter then the family pig and definately more educated than Bob Nelson.

  24. ItalianArmyGuy says: May 30, 2010 5:24 PM

    Holy Crap Randy – could you possibly look like more of a freak? You couldn’t toss in some Pippi Longstocking sideways ponytails with that ‘doo??
    You and my man Roethlisberger – two thumbs WAY up on the hair styles. Great attempts to “connect” with your fans and the general public
    @Bob Nelson – you overshot your mark a little, but clearly 65%-70% of what you said is completely true. Moss is weak, doesn’t run well in traffic, avoids hits, and as a result he has Zero Super Bowl rings while my man Hines Ward has Two and a Super Bowl MVP to boot
    Moss reminds me of Deion Sanders, without the effort and determination. All talent, no physicality. Randy should go play basketball for Greece or Italy – Eurotrash fans would love him

  25. TheWizard says: May 30, 2010 5:52 PM

    You can say Randy doesn’t do this and doesn’t do that, but look at his Patriot numbers.
    They don’t lie.
    And I’ve never liked the guy.

  26. CaptainMarvel says: May 30, 2010 5:58 PM

    Moss always performed on the field, where it counts. He always got along with teammates and was never a distraction to the team. Never missed a game. All these morons like Bob Nelson are just jealous or something. Most of Moss’ off the field incidents are totally overblown and don’t matter whatsoever as far as football.

  27. HC says: May 30, 2010 6:31 PM

    Yeah, I mean what team would possibly want a player that had 83 receptions for 1264 yards and led the league in touchdown receptions last year.

  28. BP says: May 30, 2010 6:45 PM

    I see it’s computer access night at the state pen and nuthouse.
    Moss is better than most NFL receivers even when he isn’t trying.
    I wouldn’t be surprised if he signs again with the Pats. They, unlike many morons who post here, know he is a great player, they like him and he likes them. He will go to Canton with a Pat’s hat on and wearing a Pat’s Super Bowl Champion’s ring.

  29. Ray Guy says: May 30, 2010 7:03 PM

    “Moss is better than most NFL receivers even when he isn’t trying.”
    – I don’t think you’ll get much argument on that point. with Randy, though, “even when he isn’t trying” is the big issue
    @HC says: May 30, 2010 6:31 PM
    “Yeah, I mean what team would possibly want a player that had 83 receptions for 1264 yards and led the league in touchdown receptions last year.”
    – I can name at least one team with 2 Super Bowl wins in the past 5 years that does NOT want Randy Moss, and has NEVER wanted him
    A less physical version of Plexico Burress? A taller version of Santonio Holmes who puts far less effort into the game? No thanks!

    I don’t know if Moss is all that great as a player, he never won a Superbowl, something that Jerry Rice has done more than once.
    For all the comments about what a stud Moss is, he came up short as a Viking (and who hasn’t that a purple uniform) and he came up short as a Patriot (but there are hundreds, if not thousands of African kids thanking Moss for those 19-0 Tee shirts)

    “A less physical version of Plexico Burress? A taller version of Santonio Holmes who puts far less effort into the game? No thanks!”
    LOL. Plexico Burress couldn’t hold Randy Moss’ jock strap. Santonio who? Randy Moss will go down as one of the two greatest WRs of all time statistically and it wouldn’t shock me if he went down as the greatest. That just goes to show you how little an elite WR really means to winning championships.

  36. HC says: May 31, 2010 12:09 AM

    @Jimmy Smith:
    NFL Properties prints up apparel for both contestants of a conference championship game as well as both contestants of the Super Bowl before those games are played to insure there is plenty of product on hand to be sold immediately after the outcome of those games.
    In other words, there are just as many if not more “Green Bay 2009 NFC Champions” t-shirts in those countries today. Stones and glass houses don’t mix well.
