Sparano testing Marshall to hold him accountable

Newly acquired wide receiver Brandon Marshall spent the weekend at the Miami Dolphins’ minicamp standing on the sidelines, riding a stationary bike and watching his teammates while he recovers from hip surgery.

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano wants Marshall to know that just because he can’t practice, that doesn’t mean he can’t work. And so Sparano has told receivers coach Karl Dorrell to quiz Marshall constantly while plays are being run in practice and even make Marshall take written exams in meetings.

“That’s been me saying to Karl, ‘Let’s make sure that Brandon is being held accountable for this information just like everybody else is,”’ Sparano said.

Sparano said that Marshall’s transition from the Broncos’ offense to the Dolphins’ offense should be easy because of the similarities between the two offenses. And anything Marshall doesn’t already know, he’s expected to learn, even if he can’t run plays on the practice field yet.

“Brandon knows that,” Sparano said. “So his way of being held accountable right now has to be from a test standpoint.”

I’ll be surprised if this clown doesn’t trip over a bag of McDonalds take-out and land in his TV by week 3.

This is all fluff, all nonsense. B. Marshall knows football, is a beast on the field. Except when he chooses to f-around.
And then there’s the off-field non-sense. Too many [one is too many] domestic violence drama’s; a sliced tendon and a shabby story, it’s when he’s off the field that’s the problem.
So, Fatso Sparano [memo to Coach Sparano: step away from the buffet, exercise, you’ll lose weight. It’s not complicated, really]: what you have to worry about — and you traded and paid big dough to worry about it — what you really have to worry about is the stuff you cannot control.
I’ll give McKid one thing: he knew this guy’s a cancer. He had to get rid of him no matter how much of a beast the guy was 3 Sunday’s a year.
Question: did the Dolphins or B. Marshall ever say this hip surgery was known before the trade? I would have thought I’d hear/read at least a cursory denial but I don’t think I did…

as a Jet fan I hope Brandon fails, but I only say that because it was a great move by the Dolphins, the AFC East is starting to become the stronger conference again and not just dominated by the Pats, it will be a interesting season for division if the Jets and Dolphins are firing on all cylinders, as for the Bills “no comment”.

I disagree. I think Marshall will be a liability if he doesn’t learn the system. He is definitely a beast and will figure it out soon enough, but with a generous $47 million dollar contract, I don’t think the Dolphins are out of line by ensuring Marshall knows the offense before he takes his first game snap.

I like how this coach thinks! After all he was the point man that initiated the wildcat craze with the runnings back coach from Arkansas. Not to say they quote ‘invented it’. Just saying they masterminded it and it worked great for Ronnie/Ricky.
Sprano’s a smart guy, one of the only coaches to work/play both sides of the ball (offense & defense).

Marshall is going to be a solid play/pick in fantasy football in Miami. This draft analyzer has him ranked pretty high: http://www.fantasyfootballstarters.som/draftAnalyzer.jsp

Thats funny coming from a fan of a team with a guy like Flacco who has just as many ? marks as Henne. Flacco hasn’t proven a thing yet.

Now lets count how many superbowl titles came from a michigan qbs… hmmm whats that you say ALLOT?! Hmmm whats that I hear Chad Henne was a michigan qb? Ow, he has a college championship too, does flacco have one?
KNOW YOUR ROLE AND SHUT YOUR MOUTH

You are completely delusional if, at this moment, you think Henne is a better QB than Flacco.
    1) Henne did not win the National Championship…he won a bowl game…who gives a shit?
    2) If winning a bowl game makes you an elite passer at the NFL level, then someone should inform all 32 teams that Russell is still available.
    3) If you want proof as to which QB is better right now…go no further than NFL.com. Flacco is better in every statistical category.
It’s okay that you’re a Dolphins fan, and you like your QB…but don’t make stupid comments and then try to back them up with stupid reasons.

Funny talk coming from a Ravens fan. You’re aware you play in the AFC North, right?

Not saying Flacco wont be better but like I said he hasnt really proven anything yet same for Matt Ryan. Ryan took a step back last year yet people are still blowing smoke up his a**.. Henne can be every bit as good and likely better than Flacco. He has all the tools and he has only played in 13 games and he isnt that far behind what Flacco has done with an extra season under him.

  15. Youpeoplehereareallmorons says: May 31, 2010 2:20 PM

You people are all morons. Bradon Marshall is a top 3 WR in this league hands down no doubt about it. To the dumb Ravens fan talking shit about Henne when your Qb has pretty much the same ? surronding him plus he has a far superior WR corp. last year and it was his second year starting vs Chad Henne’s first year starting and missed the first three games and still almost put up the same stats, you should be banned from posting any more comments. And last but not least the idiot calling Sparano fat apparently old coach has lost 30 pounds this offseason, and after reading your post you sound like a bitter sorry ass jets fan so tell your nutrition secrets to your fat ass load mouth coach who needs a lap band bc hard work and dedication to a diet just doesn’t seem to work for your fat ass way to be a good example for your team.

  16. wharkley says: May 31, 2010 2:57 PM

Big bronco fan, this is a good move by Sparano. Word around town is that part of the reason the broncos parted ways with Marshall was his inability to learn the playbook. If he can be a little more accountable in the meeting room, and win his ongoing battle with hip dysplasia he should be a great pick-up for fins. I hope he does well.

  17. NinerNation says: May 31, 2010 4:14 PM

Fact- Chad Henne sat for a season.
Fact- Joe Flacco started all 16 games his rookie season.
Fact- Joe Flacco’s stats from his ROOKIE year, were better than Henne’s stats from his first year starting. Henne was supposed to have the advantage.
Look, I’m not saying that Henne won’t be a very good, or great QB…all I’m saying, is that at this point, Flacco is the better QB. It’s supported by facts, so stop embarrassing yourselves.

  18. Jordo says: May 31, 2010 4:28 PM

Fact – Football is a team sport
Fact – The ravens have never won a game on his arm, and certainly not any that mattered.
Fact – The Ravens are much better defensively than the Phins, which is any young Qb’s best friend.
I think Flacco and Henne are in the same boat, one just plays for a better team.

Yeah, Miami’s the perfect spot for a kid in his mid twenties that can’t stay way from the nightlife or out of trouble.
When does Bill Parcells start referring to him as the player or by his number?
    I’m guessing September 1st.

Jets are a much better team the Baltimore. Its not even close really. NE is always dangerous and Miami is definitely improved. To say this conference is washed up is purely stupid.

Marshall has always been a baby and IMO doesn’t react well to being scolded…..so we will see how he handles this
If they win, I bet he will deal with it
But lose some games and things may change

  22. bronco1st says: Jun 1, 2010 12:32 AM

As a long time Bronco fan, let me help the Phin fans with this one. First, Marshall will only get paid the $3.?? mil for the tender he signed for this first year – the additional $43.?? mil gets paid on the remaining years of his contract, so if BM screws up, the Phins can get out of it with only the $3.?? mil invested in year one. Second, you guys are getting one hell of a receiver who will catch everything around him and then plow through/over/around the puny D-backs for a ton more. Y’all got a steal of a deal! Y’all are just lucky to be dealing with our child coach who doesn’t realize he’s traded his best marble for a couple of spins on the roulette wheel.
