Teammates say Roethlisberger is nervous but in good shape

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger won’t speak to the media on his first day back at practice with the team, but his teammates say he looked good, even if he was nervous about how things would go.

“Honestly, I could see a lot of anxiety — a lot of it,” backup quarterback Dennis Dixon said. “But then again, once you get out there and play one play, it’s back to football.”

Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel said Roethlisberger has been working hard and “wants to be great this year.”

According to Steelers beat writer Jim Wexell, Roethlisberger is in much better shape than he was a couple months ago, but his passing looks “rusty.”

BiG Ben can now run around till he can force it in there, on a football field instead of in a bar!!!

Why is he nervous? It’s not like that was the first time he’s raped someone, so why does he have first-rape jitters?

But with Ben being rusty, I’m sure he’s still a top 5 QB.

The only thing “rusty” of Ben’s, will be his 5 rings, Lombardis, and his bust in Canton, in year 100 of Life After People on the History Channel.

Wonder how long this wall of protection from guys like his best friend (Kiesel) and understudy (Dixon) will last. How long until real leaders on the team like James Farrior come out and throw their support behind Byron Leftwich, realizing that Ben will probably never play another meaningful down for the Steelers.

  11. redsquare says: Jun 1, 2010 1:44 PM

He should be nervous. He came very close to losing his career and going to jail. He should thank his lucky stars every day and get his damned act together. It’s an unbelievable privilege to have what he has, and like it or not, that comes with expectations, and they’re not unfair.

Why be nervous? His Steelers are one of the NFL and Goodell’s “chosen” teams. His “punishment” of a four game suspension (its not a six game suspension, let’s be real) is a joke. He should have been suspended for the entire season.
The Steelers have long been a favorite of the NFL brass, and Big Ben is riding that wave of good tidings. Too bad they are so blatant in their favoritism.
Look at Super Bowl XL against the Seahawks… I have never seen a bigger fixed game in my life. Ask any non-Steeler fan what happened that day… it was absurd and obvious that the zebras were not about to let Pittsburgh lose. Ask Mike Holmgren (a man of integrity) as even he questioned what went on that day.

The haters are aggravated today. Ben has been reinstated to practice, has lost a lot of weight, is more mobile and is one step closer to the field. Not to mention the fact that the State of Georgia still has the only voice/opinion that really matters.

@Ravenator: “You fail to realize that the 3rd string QB you refer to will now be your starter after he beats out Leftwich.”
So if he beats out Leftwich, he’d be the number 1, right? And if he’s good enough to be the #1 QB on the Steelers, that’s automatically better than about 75% of the QB’s in the league right there. But thanks for the math lesson!

  43. rockinron says: Jun 1, 2010 5:28 PM

Funny how all of this lets Stealers’ fans go on about him being a top 5 QB. He is barely average. Can’t read a defense and throws a duck of a ball past 15 yards. If it wasn’t for the D and running game, he would be unknown. He made $100 million riding on the teams coattails.
And before any of you say it, there is no way I would want the Jamarcus Russell of the East on my team.
He will be out of football in the next 2 years, either from concussions, getting too fat to run, or legal issues.

Pal, if you are serious about your comments, then you are a complete dope when it comes to knowing a damn thing about football. Your comments would be shocking if you also said you were a knowledgable football fan. You are a numbskull.
For one thing, there is arguably no better QB in the game today at making something positive out of a play going nowhere and scrambling, period, end of story. Further, you can’t possibly have the winning record he does without making major positive contributions along with other aspects of the team.
Wow, the dumbness of haters never ceases to amaze me. And then they whine when they get no credibility with their comments. Haters, be honest if you can. You can hate Ben and hate the Steelers, but holy shit be honest about FOOTBALL TALENT of opposing players. Go watch some game film.

    ******
Man, talk about issues. Don’t address what I said just call me names. I think you should be the one to watch some game film. Watch how they line up and can he read the defense? Can he find the one on one matchup and make an accurate throw? Can he throw a timing route or deep out? The answer to all of these is no. Now, you say he is one of the best at scrambling and finding an open guy. That is correct. But it seems he doesn’t even see the blitz coming. He waits until someone is in his face and then he runs. If he could actually read a defense they could have more plays than RB screen, WR screen and stand there until someone gets open.
“His” winning record is the teams winning record. The best way to look at it would be to say if you put Trent Dilfer in there as the QB, how would the Stealers have done the past 6 years? I would say they would have at least 2 SB, maybe more. The QB was only asked to get 1 scoring drive a half, and they still ran it more than they threw it. So you will say nobody else will make a couple of those scrambles that he made in a game. If they had a real QB, the ball would have already been gone to an open guy. He misses the open players all the time.
He is below average at what an NFL QB should be able to do: read defenses and make good throws. He makes up some of that with his ability to stand in the pocket and wait for someone to get open. Take off your blinders and see that you would be better with about 20 other QBs in the league.
My 2 year-old response to you: dumbass

  47. Bed says: Jun 2, 2010 11:42 PM

We true Pittsburgh fans don’t care if he’s a rapist, a murderer or a fag.
