Jets receiver Braylon Edwards, who signed his one-year restricted free agent tender in March, will be an unrestricted free agent in 2011. That means a good 2010 season would pay off handsomely for him, but Edwards says that’s not what he’s thinking about.
“I don’t care about a contract,” Edwards told the New York Daily News. “I just want to win a championship. That’s all I care about. . . . I just want to win a Super Bowl.”
Those comments continue an offseason in which Edwards is saying all the right things about not caring about his own stats, not caring about his contract, and not caring about anything except whether the Jets win. And Edwards says he’s having more fun in New York than he did in Cleveland.
“I’m having fun and I’m learning,” Edwards said. “It’s more fun when you really understand what it’s all about -- and what this really is -- which is a team game. Everybody has a role. Everybody has a part. Everybody contributes to a greater cause. Now, I’m 27. I’m more versed in football than when I was 22 as a rookie. I have a better appreciation now.”
