Jason Taylor wins Dolphins leadership award

Gone but not forgotten, linebacker Jason Taylor has received an award from his former team.  The Miami Dolphins announced tonight that Taylor and safety Yeremiah Bell jointly have won the 2009 Don Shula Leadership Award.

Taylor also won the award in 2002, 2006, and 2007.

The development serves as a reminder that the Fins may have been wise to keep Taylor around, especially in light of the fact that four players have been arrested this offseason.

As one league insider remarked, “Maybe Taylor could have helped Phillip Merling, Brandon Marshall or any of the other ‘thugs and hoodlums’ Parcells loves.”

Meanwhile, running back Ricky Williams received the Dan Marino Most Valuable Player Award, and fullback Lousaka Polite won the Nat Moore Community Service Award.

Taylor signed with the Jets after the Dolphins dragged their feet for weeks regarding the possibility of re-signing him.

796- you’re right. he will be back. with a 1 day retire as a fin contract.

Taylor will be somewhere other than NY next season unless he gets 15+ sacks… Big payday for him if he’s on the team next season. Glad to have him in the Jets locker room this year though.

How? By telling them stories about how he used to smack Red Grange’s ass with a wet towel?

  12. blackglass says: Jun 3, 2010 10:45 PM

Good for Ricky Williams. Seeing that ESPN special on him was pretty eye opening.
In about 3 years when all the tread is worn off, we’ll sign you in New England Ricky!

Taylor is going to love NY once he gets that ring on his finger…..he already said that newyork is actually about winning and not sitting on the beach like they do in miami hes guna love beating the dolphins twice this year too. and im guna love watching it

The Jets know what the Phins forgot – Taylor is a quality lockerroom presence.

As one league insider remarked, “Maybe Taylor could have helped Phillip Merling, Brandon Marshall or any of the other ‘thugs and hoodlums’ Parcells loves.”
Florio What makes you or one league insider think that Parcells condones the actions of Phillip Merling?
Brandon Marshall is not a hoodlum or a thug.
However he is the victim of irresponsible jounalism and Mike Florio using the forum that God has blessed him with to launch a personal attack on Bill Parcells. The Dolphins dragged their feet in signing Jason Taylor because he is unable to offer the Dolphins the same level of skill due to his age. Take a look at some film, Jason can not be a defensive end in the 3-4 and no longer has the strength or speed to be an effective linebacker in the 3-4 defense. Do you really think that Jason Taylor’s leadership would have stopped Ronnie Brown from driving drunk? Young NFL players respond to the leadership of players who still have NFL skills.
Jason should have done the same thing that Zach Thomas did this year; retire!

First you blast the Jets signing of Taylor, by saying he’ll be a bad locker room presence. Then you call him a good locker room presence and blast the Dolphins for letting him go.
I guess nobody can win with you…

LMAO…….Taylor=sell out! Miami wanted to sign Taylor right after the season ended on the contention that he had his surgery as soon as he was able too so he would not miss training camp. JT was not willing to do that and I will bet it has to do with the fact he dose not like training camp. Lets get the facts straight!
What make him a sell out though is the fact that he openly hated the Jets and the Jets fans. Hell the dude was making hateful remarks agfter the last game of the season, That was only seven months ago, so what makes you Jets fans think he suddenly had a change of heart? My theory is that he went to the Jets to be on Hard Knocks because it is no secret he wants to be a Hollywood celebrity.
My prediction is he will get no more then five sacks and get his butt run over a ton of times by Ronnie Brown.

both these teams arent doing anything this year
    sanchez and henne
sounds like the NFL 7th all QB team…
theres a reason the Jets lost 7 games during the regular season last year
and theres a reason why Henne was 0-4 vs Ohio St ( i may be wrong on that stat, but he lost the big 1 vs Troy Smith)
and Henne aint doin nothin, run that gimmicky wildcat offense to hide your offensive weaknesses
The guy Marshall you signed didnt even tell you about his hip until AFTER he got paid, tells you what type of man he is .
and the Jets—ha! i guess they are the yankees now, just bring in the names and not think about egos…whats gonna happen when LT doesnt get his touches or if Sanchez goes south
sign a vet back up QB just in case

With league insider’s who say stuff like, “Maybe Taylor could have helped Phillip Merling, Brandon Marshall or any of the other ‘thugs and hoodlums’ Parcells loves,” how can I take this site serious?

“My theory is that he went to the Jets to be on Hard Knocks because it is no secret he wants to be a Hollywood celebrity.”
Well, that, and the fact that no one else would even offer him a contract (other than the one the Fins offered in November which he wouldn’t sign because he thought he would be big in the FA market). Which, if you think about it, is kind of surprising since Bill Bellichick was really wanting him last season before he signed with the Fins for a lot less money than the pats offered him.

  26. Tim18 says: Jun 4, 2010 8:15 AM

Jets are terrible. They pick up Taylor and let Thomas Jones go? Thomas Jones kept that offense going along with Greene. Taylor is old and I can’t wait to see the phins pound the ball right at him like the NFC east did when he played for the skins. Taylor needs to stay a jet and retire a jet. He was too good to play for the phins after our 1 – 15 season and now that we went 7 – 9 vs. the leagues toughest schedule he went somewhere else again. He should of retired before he started wearing his little skirts on dancing with the stars.

  27. Tim18 says: Jun 4, 2010 8:34 AM

Chris – Henne is going to be a good qb. He had 3 4th quarter comebacks and one of those was against the patriots who is probably your team i image. And saying the jets need to sign a back up qb in case sanchez goes south? He went south last year throwing 20 pics to 12 tds. I understand its his rookie year but it was no where closer to being a solid year for a qb.

  28. FinFan says: Jun 4, 2010 8:46 AM

um, wasn’t taylor involved in a demostic despute with his father?
Didn’t the dad shoot at him?

  29. stampats says: Jun 4, 2010 9:40 AM

LOL.. All the Fins fans jump on a story about the Jets working out salaries in June…
Worry about the Bunch of Thugs Miami will have to pay…. Might as well put stripes on the Dullfin uniform ROTFL

And then you are going to wake up and realize that your team was all hype this season and did not make the playoffs. Oh, and got swept by the Fins AGAIN.

  31. overkil2 says: Jun 7, 2010 10:29 AM

The only way Taylor is getting a ring on his finger in NY is if he goes to a jewelry store and buys one.
