But when Al davis clearly overpaid Nanmdi @ 15mil per year. I bet revis agents wants to start at that price, and clearly thats QB money.
No one is worth that much unless you are Peyton Manning or Tom Brady.
You also have to take in the CBA, no team can pay their players more than 30% more than they were making? Unless you pay them upfront like the 49ers did with Willis.
So all you NY haters out there, this is nothing more than a CBA problem than a team not wanting to pay they own players that they drafted. All of those contract would get resolved wants the new CBA is signed!!!

Revis’ situation is not complicated at all. His contract was for 6 years, but he can opt out of the final 2 years, which will occur after the 2010 season. If the Jets do not pony up before the season starts, he will void the 2011-2012 contract years and become a FA. If he becomes a FA, the Jets will face the prospect of losing him & possibly over-paying against themselves in an open market.
The larger problem is the possibility of hamstringing the team with a long-term, 15-18mil/ year deal. If Sanchez becomes a star (which i doubt he will) he will be looking for a large, top-dollar contract after 2011 or 2012. That will be 30-35 million per year locked up amongst 2 players. The way the players association dropped the ball, chances are the next CBA will include either a lowered or equal salary cap. The Jets haven’t had a franchise QB since Namath & if they decide to pony up to Revis, they better hope Sanchez remains a below-average NFL player or else they will be stuck with 2 big, overpaid deals & no cap space to keep their other stars or sign solid free agents. This team is in big trouble.

Like they say never let the facts get in the way of a great story. Kendall had a contract, but he wanted ridiculous money in renegotiation, Baker robbed the Pats, caught less than twenty passes and was cut after one year, Moore was resigned as a free agent, Coles the only player in NFL history to sign a contract and bitch about it three days later, he did that three times. The Jets let him out of a contract, so he could rob the Bengals, did nothing for them this past year and is now unemployed. Leon Washington, a restricted free agent with a rod in his leg, he will start the season on the pup and no one even knows if his leg will ever heal right. So the jets should use Revis or Mangold’s or D’bricks money to sign him And by the way, the Jets have been saying for over a year that Revis, Mangold and Ferguson are top priorities. Again, a Florio making up a controversy where non exists.

So I guess it’s assumed that anyone who criticizes the Jets are Dolphins fans? How pathetic.
I swear it, some Jets fans act like total freaking retards with chips on their shoulders of an imaginary team that could contend. Was hoping to witness the ultimate humiliation of defeat of losing a Super Bowl by watching the Saints give the Jets the shellacking they truly deserved, but the Colts exposed them as a team that didn’t even belong in the playoffs. Your Jets let me down. And yes, they do suck. I’m kicking myself in the ass for actually cheering them on in the playoffs; should have known better.
So here’s a reality check/friendly reminder – Mark Sanchez with all that media hype was the 5th worst QB in the league last year, stinking it up real nice for the rest of the NFL football fans to see on prime time. That’s right, just four spots above JaMarcus Russell.
Please do the NFL fan world a favor and quit embarrassing yourselves. Go eat some hot dogs and stay away from message boards.

The Hard Knocks team are going to get their monies worth this year.
Can’t knock Rex – he’s an excellent D co-ord – but his personality is making his team a target for the rest of the league.
As a Patriots fan, I am familiar with how hard it is when each team bring their A-game every week – even when your team isn’t as dominant as it has been.
Everytime Rex opens his mouth, everytime a Jester opines publicly how great his team is I smile to myself – Miami and New England will enjoy the lack of cosus they’ll recieve this year.

Agreed with SagNasty. Who’s got the highest salaries for this year? Faneca was a good sized contract… Sanchez has a top 5 draft pick rookie deal, Bart Scott is making good money. Santonio and Braylon are both RFA’s though, right? They aren’t making too much, Jason Taylor isn’t making much, they don’t have a terribly high priced running back… The players that deserve the contracts will get them. Mangold, D’Brick, Revis, and Harris will all be Jets for a long time. The Jets are about to have to shell out 14-16 mil a year for Revis though, its crazy.

Leon was the organizations fault? He was offered a 4.5m/yr deal and turned in down. Sadly he was injured last season and wasn’t even working out with the Jets. Rumor is he won’t be ready for training camp that he said he would be ready for.
Coles asked for more money two times and now has asked to come back to the Jets for the third time. The guy left us two times already because he wanted more money every single year. Give me a break…
Moore got his contract and is happy. What’s the problem here?
Chris Baker… are you kidding me? Jets let him walk, Patriots sign him, and he’s a FA in the next season and walked to the Seahawks.
Kendall was the only situation that was a true mess. He asked to be traded and we traded him. Later on replaced with Faneca in FA.
Revis has made 20mil over his first three years… not exactly chump change. He has surely out played his contract and deserves a new deal but Al Davis inflated the market, same as he did with DHB last season.
Oh and the Jets have spent under $6mil this off season on LT, JT, Pool, Cromartie, Holmes, and Folk. They have even redid their deals to better suit their needs – such as paying Holmes out a different way so his 4 game suspension hurts his wallet less. Sorry but this article is a load of crap. The Jets have been taking care of their players for years and it just so happens that we have been drafting very very well and their contracts are up around the same time.
Mike T should stop doing such a good job drafting, that will fix this problem.

Let’s not forget the Bengals and Chargers missing like 5 field goals in those playoff games. The 2009 Jets were a huge fluke, and have not improved this offseason (spare me the LdT and Taylor talk, they are washed up). How people are calling this a 12 win team is beyond me.

the 2010 salaries of the “high priced” jets free agents and trade acquisitions:
braylon edwards: $6.1 million
ladanian tomlinson: $1.9 million
antonio cromartie:$1.7 million
santanio holmes: $1.4 million
jason taylor: $1.75 million
TOTAL: $12.85 million
the best part? every single one of these players has to earn their extensions should they get offered one. to put that better in perspective for you dbag flipper fans, brandon marshall was pretty much given $30 million GUARANTEED before stepping on the field.

Once again dolphin fans show themselves to be the biggest morons in sports today. These are fans that need the opponent fans to show up, just so they can sell out games. The same fans who don’t show up to Marlin games, who believe winning a division and losing in round 1 of the playoffs is some kind of accomplishment. The same fans who believe winning two games in the regular season against a team that actual went to the playoffs and won two games is some kind of great accomplishment. I lived in south florida for 5 years and I’ve seen these people and they are so beyond stupid, its hard to fathom. Of course reading this site you can understand why.
First to compare the Jets to the skins shows such a lack of knowledge, research or common sense. Congrats Florio you have shown you are as dumb as the Dolphin fans. The Jets free agents the last two years are Bart Scott, Jim Leonard, Pace, Tomlinson and J.Taylor. The last two on small 2 year deals. Where are the Haynesworth, Coles, Randy Thomas type monster deals. THEY AREN”T THERE because the Jets have drafted and traded so well they don’t need to sign bloated contracts. Secondly, they weren’t allowed you nitwits. Part of the final 8 rule, which for you Dolphin fans that means you have to win a playoff game if you can remember what that’s like, was that the teams in the final 8 couldn’t sign free agents until they lost one.
If you’d like a recap of the draft picks the Jets have made that have succeeded here ya go. By the way the reason they have so many players wanting new deals is because they DRAFTED SO DAMN WELL and these guys are up for new deals. Revis, Harris, Brick, Mangold, Cotchery, Sanchez, Greene, L.Washington are all draft picks. They’ve been smart with trades for Holmes, Edwards, Chromartie, Jenkins who are all players that cost them little in money and players. Some of you clowns need to get a clue and actually know what you are talking about. This team has built a top notch talent-laden team and you will see it all very soon. Remember this, the Jets had the #1 DEFENSE and that was with most of the players new to the system. How do you think they’ll do with a year under their belts.
Finally as for contracts, have you ever followed contract negotiations for players before? Is this the first time players have gone public in a negotiation to try and get some leverage. Its a game, that’s how its played all the time. Bank on it, by opening day Mangold and Revis will be locked up and perfectly happy. This is how its done. I’ve already read reports from Revis’s camp that people are blowing it way out of proportion. Shocker I know, especially from a legit “journalist” like Florio. Do you get your info from TMZ?
To all the Dolphin fans who think making fat jokes about Rex, makes them Chris Rock. Enjoy it now losers, because come September it’ll be time to go back to where you belong…out of the playoffs and praying Parcells doesn’t leave, which he will of course, sending your pathetic franchise in the toilet where it belongs and where its fans reside.

I love how this is about the Jets and its all Dolphins fans commenting. Jealousy??? hahahahah. As for this whole “you guys are stupid” deal with the salary cap next season, the Jets stocked up on a lot of this talent for this season and this season alone. They want to make a Super Bowl run this year, its uncapped, and they’re a big market team. They don’t plan on keeping BOTH Braylon and Santonio next season. The better of the two will be back, the other one, see ya. Jason Taylor and LaDainian Tomlinson won’t be around. Getting rid of Leon helped prevent them paying him some of the money that Revis, Mangold, and D’Brick are going to make. The Jets aren’t salary cap morons, they’ll have it figured out. The Revis and Mangold situations are going to have to be addressed this season. D’Brick is looking at 10 mil for next season based on his rookie contract so I don’t really see him making a stink. I have to imagine they’re going to sign their franchise left tackle to a good long term deal though.

So many of you are so clueless, it is downright pathetic. Pete Kendall? Chris Baker? Coles and Leon? Those are a combination of complimentary and DECLINING players. Over the years, Martin, Pennington, Ellis, Rhodes, Cotchery, etc. have all gotten the deals they’ve deserved.
These four players will be signed too. Anyone who believes they won’t is simply exercising wishful thinking.

The whole idea that the jets splurged in free agency doesn’t really make any sense. The two most talked about are Tomlinson and Taylor- neither of which are being paid any large amount of money and only one of which may even be on the team following this year. They are situational players that fill the jets need for a passing down rushbacker and a pass catching runningback. I think claiming these trivial deals somehow affect the status of much larger and lucrative contracts such as revis, mangold etc, is ridiculous.
The jets have been aware of this situation for quite some team. The jets were heistant to give big money to washington, cut thomas jones, cut faneca, and traded kerry rhodes. None of these moves directly benefit the team personnel-wise but they do clear a ton of cap space immediately and in the future.
The media always loves to over dramatize contract situations like these. First they claim Revis demanded $20mil a year, then they claim that he is furious. People need to understand that this is the negotiation process. For as big a deal as Revis will get, there will always be stories and rumors flying around.
