Reggie Wayne to miss Colts minicamp

Quiet off the field for his entire career, Reggie Wayne suddenly lives in the headlines.

First, we learned the police are investigating a potential ex-girlfriend for stealing Wayne’s money.  Then we found out Wayne may want a new contract, which looks like the reason he’s stayed away from OTAs.

Now NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports Wayne plans to skip the Colts’ only mandatory minicamp of the offseason next week.  We grew tired of waiting for NFL.com to post the full story (let’s go, people), so we asked La Canfora the cause for his absence.

He says the contract “is definitely an issue.”

The Colts owe Wayne $11.5 million over the next two years of his current deal. He appears unlikely to get more money anytime soon.

A certain fella named Peyton Manning probably takes precedence.

UPDATE: Here’s the full story.  Wayne spoke with coach Jim Caldwell over his decision to skip practice because of his unhappiness regarding his contract.

THIS SUCKS…. REGGIE HAS ALWAYS “DONE THE RIGHT THING”….. IT SUCKS TO SEE THAT START CHANGING. I’VE ALWAYS BEEN A HUGE FAN OF HIS, BUT THIS MANUEVER ISN’T SOMETHING I’M A FAN OF. HE SIGNED THE DEAL, NOW PLAY IT OUT. IT’S FUNNY HOW FAST SOME OF THESE PLAYERS FORGET ALL THE UP FRONT MONEY THEY GOT WHEN THEY SIGNED THE DEAL.

Sloppy reporting, Greg. The police have already said the story the woman told the media is different than what she told them.
Wayne has no legal issues. It looks like charges will be pressed against the woman.
Try and keep up with events before continuing to smear a guy.

If you are a “potential ex-girlfriend”, you are a girlfriend.

Marvelous Marvin was quiet for most of his career, too. May Reggie can get a job moonlighting for Marvin. There’s a couple of Philly hoods that need tighter control.

Tear tear mr 18 to 88. time to face the music, harrison is gone and now he is the main guy. The only difference is it looks like he will be a diva just like everyone else, and you will have all the drama that goes along with it.

It’s a family issue now you idiot. He won’t be in camp until it’s resolved.

    Hey DZ:
    Missing OTA is missing OTA.
Don’t shoot the messenger because another one of your ‘quiet WR’s’ is a scumbag.
Although in this case, not a murderer.

    Here is an idea :
If Wayne is unhappy in Indy…Trade him to the Raiders for Nnamdi Asomugha.
Of course Nnamdi would have to renegotiate his contract for the Colts to EVEN consider, but Jackson’s gone, Bob Sanders always seems to be injured anymore, and Betha is holding out…Nnamdi would upgrade their Secondary IMMEDIATELY!
In the same vein the Raiders would have to pony up a new BIG contract for Wayne, but since he already has a ring (Randy Moss didn’t when he came to the Raiders) he would probably go to a worse team if he could get money that the Colts WILL NEVER GIVE HIM.
Why would the Raiders do this?
Have you looked at the receiving corps since Rice and Brown left and Jerry Porter became a Diva WR with NO TALENT?
Wayne would immediately upgrade the whole offense and give Jason Campbell a LEGIT weapon to throw to…Not to mention it would free up Zack Miller (up and coming TE) in the middle (ala’ Dallas Clark) and give DHB a TON of single coverage on the other side with Louis Murphy cleaning up the rest in 3 WR sets.
I would HATE to see Nnamdi go, but he does deserve to win a championship. That being said, the Raiders realistically are AT BEST 2 years (AND FOREVER AT WORSE) from being a playoff contender much less a Super Bowl caliber team.
Colts are as likely Super Bowl contenders as anyone else EVERY YEAR and they could certainly have a better defense with Nnamdi shutting down one side.
As far as losing Wayne, it would hurt for sure, but as long as they have #18 under center they will ALWAYS be good WHOEVER the WRs are (Who knew of Garcion/Collie before last year…Getting rid of Marvin Harrison last year and STILL making the Super Bowl proved that).

Reggie is reworking his contract so he gets paid even more money for miscues and dropped passes.
