Protesters show up to party, but Vick doesn’t

Last week there were reports out of Florida that animal-rights protesters were likely to demonstrate at a party Michael Vick was set to host in Hallandale Beach. As it turns out, some protesters showed up, but Vick didn’t.

I don’t know what to do,” party promoter Darnell Aponte told the Sun-Sentinel of Vick’s no-show. “This was my first full-blown event.”

Aponte says he already paid $5,000 to Vick and spent an additional $5,000 on arranging for travel and accommodations for Vick and his entourage. Vick’s booking agent, Fred Grant, told the Sun-Sentinel that Vick wanted to attend but couldn’t because his flight was canceled.

“We did everything we could to get him there,” Grant said. “We’re not trying to be shady or stiff anybody.”

The Sun-Sentinel, however, reports that Vick’s flights weren’t canceled, just delayed -- and Vick could have reached his destination only 26 minutes late.

“He wasn’t apologetic at all,” Aponte said. “He had a really poor attitude: ‘I missed my flight, what the heck do you want me to do about it?’”

Perhaps for Aponte’s second full-blown event, he’ll choose a host with a slightly more reliable reputation than Michael Vick.
