Source: DeSean Jackson's absence isn't contract related

With the sudden disappearance of Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson from OTAs coming only days after Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis ditched voluntary practices due to displeasure with his contract and at a time when Jackson ranks among the most underpaid players in the game, many league observers instantly assumed Jackson finally is taking action on getting a big raise.

Not so, we’re told.

Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, the absence isn’t related to Jackson’s contract.  Instead, he’s handling some personal business, and he’s expected to return later in the week.

The last portion conflicts with a tweet from Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News, who reports that Jackson is in Atlanta and that he’ll then return to his home in L.A. for the rest of the week.

Maybe if you keep poking him (figuratively) he’ll get annoyed and respond in some fashion that can be distorted for the benefit of site traffic. Cross your fingers Mike!

you guys really just take shots in the dark and hope something sticks.
not less then 2 stories ago you were speculating contract issues and now you are saying it isnt.

VOLUNTARY… He can choose not to go cause hes sittin home clearin out space on his Tivo… its voluntary.

  4. HarrisonHits says: Jun 7, 2010 12:37 PM

Simple solution, make every contract performance based. The problem is the players would never accept that because they still want to get paid big $ even when they suck.

  5. robert ethen says: Jun 7, 2010 12:38 PM

Team bulletin simply informed that the absence was “Diva related”, without getting into specifics.

thank god your speculation that you’ve been hoping will end up not just being speculation for months continues to be nothing but speculation.

A.VOLUNTARY… post this if its the 1st day of MANDATORY Training Camp.
B.Who cares??? The season doesnt start for 3 full months… its not the 1960s and 70s when guys showed up to camp 40lbs over their playing weight.
C.Maybe if teams didnt need to start practices 6 months before the season starts guys wouldnt get worn out and hurt by week 17.

Somebody checked Jackson’s discarded Maxipad and noticed some spotting.
The good news: Thefts of Vicodin at the Eagles practice facility are down. The bad news: Thefts of Midol at the Eagles practice facility are way up.

Sounds like Desean learned what the meaning of voluntary means sometime last week.

  13. xxxsixeightxxx says: Jun 7, 2010 1:28 PM

Tell me this brokeback cowboy fan is talkin about Desean while Rhomo is skippin OTAs to qualify for the U.S. Open cause football is too physical for him.

The Eagles are not the best team to pull this sort of stunt on.

My hatred for the cowboys goes hand in hand with my utter disgust of Texas as a whole(I think i just threw up a lil in my mouth). To claim that they’re all a bunch of steers and queers does not remotely scratch the surface of what they grossly exemplify… its almost a compliment. The smelly, four-toothed, redneck animals that breed there have turned that place into a cess pool of undesirable human beings…comparable to a leper colony

Right, because Jackson can have personal business to attend to ONLY in LA. God forbid he has business to take care of elsewhere.
Florio’s pathetic quest to turn Desean Jackson into another T.O. continues….

  28. jreed says: Jun 7, 2010 8:54 PM

Source: Mike Florio is still hoping that DeSean Jackson’s absence “is” contract related
Come one Dude, Give it up! Just believe the guy when he says that he knows that they will give him the contract he deserves when the time is right. HE knows he needs a new contract and the EAGLES know that he needs a new contract and his AGENT knows that he needs a new contract and WE ALL know he needs a new contract. But the time is not right for that. Let the man concentrate on football.

I love how this site continues to try to pursue things like contract issues, always trying to turn a good player into a diva. Then when they fail at thier current task, they post this.
And I also love when every cowboy fan has the same remark to every single post that is against an eagles player. Can you really not wait for the season that you gotta come on news site to an eagles page and bash the good the bad and the ugly. Thats fail, no other way to put it
