In this week’s edition of Monday Morning Quarterback, Peter King of SI.com caught our attention with a fairly obvious, but largely overlooked, fact.

Tight end Tony Gonzalez has averaged 20 more receptions over his last three years than he did in his first 10 seasons.

From 1997 through 2006, Gonzalez caught on average 72.1 passes. From 2007 through 2009, the number has spiked to 92.7.

And he has missed only two games due to injury, none in the past three years.

Though some might wonder whether this Sports Illustrated scribe has applied a Madden-style jinx to Gonzalez by pointing this out, we think that the 34-year-old will continue to add to his first-ballot Hall of Fame career.
