Ex-Nashville cop attempts to get McNair case re-opened

A former Nashville police officer who is selling a self-published book about the death of Steve McNair is trying to get the case re-opened.

Elizabeth Merrill of ESPN.com reports that the former officer, Vincent Hill, filed a 32-page complaint last month citing what he called “numerous errors” by Nashville police. Hill says he will present a report to a grand jury Friday in an effort to force the police department to re-open the case.

The Nashville police say McNair was killed by his 20-year-old girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi, who then killed herself. Hill says there’s more to the case than that.

Obviously, the fact that Hill stands to make money by selling copies of his book, “Playbook to a Murder,” raises the question of whether this is all just a publicity stunt. It’s also important to note that Hill left the Nashville police in 2006 and may have an axe to grind. And the Nashville police have insisted that they conducted a thorough investigation that reached the correct conclusions.

But the fact remains that there are lingering questions about the McNair case, some of which were raised by the lengthy investigation conducted by Armen Keteyian of CBS. Hill might not be the right person to ask those lingering questions, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be answered.
