Ricky Williams likes Ross's Super Bowl prediction

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross says his team will be playing in the Super Bowl in February, a statement that may have been designed to set the bar high for head coach Tony Sparano.

Dolphins running back Ricky Williams thinks both Ross and Sparano have set the bar high for the team, and he thinks that takes a lot of guts — and a lot of something that’s a little bit lower than the gut.

“If you don’t approach the season thinking that, then you shouldn’t be playing football,” Williams told Tim Graham of ESPN.com, when asked about Ross’s prediction. “The reason he said that is he probably heard coach Sparano say it, and that takes a lot of balls for a head coach to say it.”

You won’t find many NFL fans ready to buy into Ross’s prediction of the Dolphins in the Super Bowl, but Williams is thrilled with it.

“He raised the bar, and it’s our job to reach it,” Williams said. “. . . If you set the bar and are serious about it, that’s when great things happen.”

Florio your attempt to turn this into something that has Sparano on the hot seat is irresponsible at best

Why do I never hear the Patriots bragging about how good they are? Or the Colts predicting a 2011 Championship? How about the Rooneys guranteeing a dynasty? I’m a Fins fan and if the Jets and Dolphins are going to compete for Superbowls it’s not gonna be this way, with words. I prefer quiet confidence.

Gee, I’m sure glad I logged onto ProFootballTalk today for the first time in weeks, otherwise I might’ve missed out on being aware of this great and very important breaking news story.
It used to be you could stop by this site and get caught up on the stuff happening in the NFL – now this site is completely worthless because the 5% of posts that are actually about something useful or worth knowing are buried under the 95% of garbage that gets posted on here because Florio feels he has some kind of obligation to post 120 items a day.

We almost beat the Saints who won the Super Bowl last year.
We almost beat the Colts who may have been the best team last year.
We beat the stupid Jets twice who were one game away.
We signed the best two players in free agency Dansby and Marshall.
    So why the hell not?

Talkin abou Ross’s statement: How hard is it to make it to the Superbowl?
The Giants, Colts, Patriots, and Steelers have been featured in 10 of the last 11 superbowls. Exception was Bucs and Raiders, look where those two teams are now.

Many NFL fans don’t know their own @ss from a hole in the ground concerning the actual game of football… including everyone writing for this web site (not counting their expertise in innuendo, speculation, and counting arrest’s among players).
I’d be far more worried about the seasons outcome if “many NFL fans” were ready to buy into predictions of greatness – ala the Noo Jersey Jets.

The Dolphins have a better chance of going 1-15 again than they do of winning a Super Bowl.
In 2008 the Dolphins got lucky in a year when Brady was out for the season and they were rotating through the PATHETIC AFC West schedule and they eeked out a Division Championship by the skin of their teeth.
How many playoff games did Parcells win with the Cowboys? ??? ????? I thought so.

I’m a Dolphins fan and I hereby order all Dolphins players, management, executives, employees, J-lo, Serena, Venus, T.D., Ray Finkle to STFU! You’re sitting in the AFC East as the third choice to win the division. Don’t put a target on your arse with useless talk. There are still big question marks on the defensive side of the ball!

  38. Patssuckmyleftnut says: Jun 8, 2010 10:08 PM

Pats and Jets fans………… We’ll see!!!!!!! One organization cheated to get to a Super Bowl the other hasn’t been there in over 40 years!!! The class of the AFC EAST is back!!!! Get used to it!!! We will be here a long time like we were so many times before!!! DOLPHINS ARE BACK!!!! BE SCARED!! BE VERY SCARED! As for mcrackman, appearantly you don’t watch much football because the Phins have an outstanding young O-LINE and a talented young gun in Chad Henne!!! Get your FAT BULBOUS head out of the cheesewhiz ass!!!

  39. Albert040907 says: Jun 8, 2010 10:48 PM

So when Rex Ryan says this he gets blasted, and he coaches the team and the defense. When the owner says this of the Dolphins, he gets praise.
    Dumb fans these dolphins.
And seriously the almost beating everyone who went far is so ridiculous.
You almost beat the colts, yet the team held the ball for fifteen minutes still beat you.
You almost beat the saints……. You blew the game cause your coach called a time out on a field goal attempt and then the team choked.
Signed the best players in free agency, Marshall wasn’t a free agent and Dansby wasn’t the best free agent. He wasn’t even the best defensive free agent on his former team.

Idiot. I anything Henne’s arm is too strong. His game is missing the touch pass. If you watched any of the games last season you’d see he’s got a cannon, much more powerful than Bulger, just needs to make NFL throws.

  47. SeattleFinFan says: Jun 9, 2010 6:19 AM

Is there possibly a Miami Dolphin resurgence going on down in S. Florida? Historically speaking the AFC East belonged mainly to the Fins during the 70′s and 80′s. The Fins were division champs 6 times during the 70′s and appeared 3 times in the Super Bowl. They were div champs 5 times during the 80′s and appeared twice in the SB. That winning tradition has slipped for the last two decades.
It could be that some Jets and Patriot fans are feeling threatened by the way the Fins have been kicking their teams ass lately. The Fins swept the Jets last year and come on everybody knows the Fins never pay any respect to the Patriots. Sounds like a few scared y cats making frightened noises and licking their paws.
    Go Fins Baby, Yeah Baby!!!

So, put that in your pipe and smoke it. Dolphins have a lot better chance than many fans teams posting here. We’ll enjoy you eating it when we do.
Certaintly, the Phins will sweep the very pathetic noo jersey jests again… that’s a given.

“So when Rex Ryan says this he gets blasted, and he coaches the team and the defense. When the owner says this of the Dolphins, he gets praise. ”
That’s because the wets are the laughingstock of the division. The bottom feeders for 41 years. That franchise has never proven they can do anything other than talk… and the classless fat slob has only embarrassed this team at every turn moron.

  52. FinFanRod says: Jun 9, 2010 9:11 AM

I don’t really care what the owner has to say. OF COURSE he should be predicting his team in the Super Bowl. What owner would predict a bad year for his team? These guys pump millions into their teams yearly to win a title. Would any fan of any other team want their owner to say differently?
What do you want Ricky to say? No I’m not happy they have high expectations for us as a team? I can’t believe this is a story and that anyone here is talking about guarantees. He said he expects them to be play in the SB. Unless I didn’t see the statement I never saw anyone guarantee a SB victory this season.
    This whole thing is stupid.

Thats because Rex Ryan talks every week and doesn’t back it up every week like when the phins beat them twice this past year. He says something every week and it got to the point where it was just some loud mouth shooting off his mouth. The only prediction he made was they would go to the SB and they still didn’t do that. Only reason they had a chance cause the colts rolled over and let them in the playoffs. We’ll see how good the pats are since people are actually watching for them cheating. Below is a great video on the pats.

miami has one of the best olines in football. check out profootballfocus.com and look at the rankings. Jake long was 2nd at LT behind joe Thomas. Vernon carey was ranked #4 RT in the NFL. Both tackles are one of the best at their positions. Jake grove was the #3 C in the NFL. Our RG was our only weekspot and incognito will fill that in quite nicely. Also part of the Running game and controlling the line of scrimmage is your Fullback. Polite was #2 ranked FB last year in the NFL. , so to that packers fan that said we dont have an offensive line, you might want to actually watch the games instead of relying on “experts” for your opinions. you also need you need a good defense. Starks and langford were both tops in the NFL as 3-4 defnsive ends. starks #2, langford #7 out of 39. cameron wake was ranked #3 as 3-4 OLB and didnt even play for the whole year lol. Even NFL total access said Miami has the best CB tandem in the NFL and they are only in their 2nd year!! ..The additions of Odrick, edds, dansby and most impacting mike nolan makes this defense a force. top 5 defense for sure this year.
