Santa Clara voters decide fate of new Niners stadium

On Tuesday, eligible (and interested) voters in Santa Clara, California will be casting ballots regarding a proposal that would kick in $114 million in taxpayer money toward the construction of a new stadium for the 49ers.

According to Daniel Brown of the San Jose Mercury News, polls suggest that the vote will be close.

“It would be tremendous if people would get out and vote because it is important,” coach Mike Singletary said, per Brown. “I think it’s a tremendous step for the organization, I think we all know that. Everything that the people of Santa Clara have done here has been great. Now, it’s just following through and getting out and voting.”

That message isn’t intended, however, for those who would be inclined to vote “no.”

If the measure fails, look for momentum to build toward a possible two-team venue in Oakland, which would be shared by the 49ers and the Raiders.
