Allen expects Favre back as soon as training camp ends

Vikings defensive end Jared Allen said today that he believes quarterback Brett Favre will return to the team — but that he’ll wait until his teammates are done sweating through two-a-days.

Asked by Trey Wingo during an interview on NFL Live when he expects Favre to report to the Vikings, Allen answered, “What day do we break training camp?”

Allen was laughing as he talked about Favre, and seems OK with the fact that Favre gets to skip camp while everyone else has to go. But he did joke that he’d ask coach Brad Childress to let him go to Favre’s hometown when training camp starts to get Favre to return to the team.

“I think I’m going to try to convince Brad, right about the start of training camp, to let me go out to Hattiesburg to try to convince Brett,” Allen said.

  1. He’s like 40 something…
    just let him rest.
we all know he can play.
He’s earned the right to rest. It’s frickin’ BRETT FAVRE

  2. Cue the nonsense from the lovers….he’s legend, look what he did last year by missing camp, he’s earned the right to skip….blah blah blah.
PFT, please also cue the footage of Favre throwing passes to high schoolers right around July 10th or so.

  3. Who else on any NFL team but Lord Favre (Fredo) could do this? Please explain to me why this AssClown can think he is above everyone on the team that he can just skip sweating out training camp.
I find this disrespectful to ALL of all of his “Teamates”. WTF!

  4. Jared Allen is a BEAST! He will dominate opposing teams this year…… Just like every year! I can’t wait to watch 69 put his helmet into Brees’ back. It’s also fun watching him eat up the packers but it almost seems too easy. Watch out Bitches the Vikes are getting their trophy this year! SKOL!

  5. I love how the perennial chumps have gotten so comfortable that they actually laugh at their own lack of dedication–I bet that resonates real well in the purple-fairy-and-urine-yellow locker room, doesn’t it?
For any player not involved in the Bratt-Brad-Allen Brokeback menage-a-trois, I’m sure it’s really not all that funny.
Of course, the rest of the country WAS laughing during the NFCCG when all 12 of those horn-blowers walked out onto the field after that time-out and said, “We believe in you, Brett…”
Now THAT was pure comedic gold.
None of us should really be surprised that the Purple Fairies of the North have different standards for different players…I mean, it’s not like they’ve ever had ANY standard for themselves as an organization, given all the scandal, spinelessness, classlessness, hype, dysfunction, and fairweatherdom rampant throughout their (dis)organization and fanbase.
If losing is supposed to build character, why do the Queens and their fans/players continue to lack any of it?
It’s okay, a bit of Senator Stuart Smalley’s self-affirmation will help get you through it (though to be honest, while you can function under the delusion that you’re “good enough, and smart enough…” Doggone it, people still don’t like you.

  6. How many ‘favre after training camp’ headlines between now and mid-august will there be?
    Can we get a counter?!
    With eight weeks to go,
    My bet is 32.
    Or 4 a week. See what I did there, 4 = Favre’s number.

  7. You don’t put a 41 year old player through two weeks of two-a-days. I think Favre will be there at the start of training camp, but I can guarantee you he won’t be there for every practice.
Even Tom Brady is skipping OTAs this year.

  8. as soon as Bob Nelson and Jiminy Smith get done with the porn they’ll be sure to comment here…
Also, I just gotta say, man who dont like Brett Favre or Jared Allen? I mean, you just gotta love the way they play the game. Right Bob & Jiminy? If you like football you must like those guys…

  9. Why cant we just skip the BS and the team just say “Brett can come whenever he is ready, whenever camp ends. He is better than anything else weve got so we will tolerate it”. its not a damn secret it would save us all the overexposure of Favre news we receive everyday

  10. King Favre will arrive at the moment of his liking and there isn’t a damn.thing.you.can.do.about.it.
Perhaps Prince Childress will request his royal highness to grace the rest of the peasant Viking team with his presence during training camp. Do not be mistaken however, such activities are meant only for those who are not divine and chosen, nay, ORDAINED by God to be righteous and good.
All will kiss the purple cloak of the legendary choker once he arrives with much fanfare and there will be a great feast set forth before him.
Should anyone question King Favre there shall be only one reply—-OFF WITH THEIR HEAD!

  11. Favre doesn’t want to go to camp. What else is new? At least people finally caught on to Favre and his flip flopping. Sounds like a politician.

  12. J Dub , please tell us your lies again about how you seen Favre out “in da clubs” in 96 and 97 when he was the most popular QB in the NFL and couldn’t go anywhere with out getting mobbed you pathetic little creature.
    Thanks!

  13. You guys skipped over the most important part of his interview.
“I’ve always said the mullet is a lifestyle, not just a hairstyle. I mean, just because I cut my hair doesn’t mean my sleeves automatically go back on my shirts.”
Yup. Can’t wait for this guy to become a broadcaster.

Do you remember any of the idiotic and laughable predictions you made for our season last year?
    Let me refresh your memory.
1.Vikes will finish the season 7-9 or 9-7 at best.
    2. Favre will throw 20 INTS.
3.Favre will be on the IR halfway through the season.
Any of this ring a bell assclown?

Lol! Love u pack fans. Give it 1 maybe 2 more years and ya’ll be right back on top of the North. Unlike the bi-queens you have a young stud for a Qb for many years to come. You take dipshit (4) away from the Yikes and its right back to 8-9 guys in the box with butterfingers carrying the ball nowhere. Go Pack!

  17. I used to like Brett back when he was with Green Bay but now he is a Viking so now I can see how bad he actually is. Wasn’t it great last year when he threw the interception to LOSE the NFC championship game? How great would it be to see him throw another interception to lose the Super Bowl this year? I can only hope so, me and all my friends will be pumping our fist and laughing it up. If he and the Vikings lose the Super Bowl this year how great year will it be?!!! Let’s bring on 2010!!!

  18. For those of you who still love and respect Favre here is your change to have a limited edition signed print and help abused and homeless animals at the same time. My local humane society in Ocala, FL is selling on ebay a limited siigned print of Favre and Persey Harvin. There are only 44 of these prints in the world and you can own #17/44. All of the money from this sale will go to the Humane Society of Marion County. Go to link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270588748520&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT This print shows Favre holding Harvin in the endzone after a touchdown. So many fans love Favre for his friendship and love of his fellow teammates and this print shows that team sprit. Bid now and help abused animals get a new leash on life.

  19. That’s favre for ya, the consummate teammate. Always working hard just like the other guys. Williams is like 40, why can’t he stay at home too?

  20. Would’nt be bad if we made Favre come to camp and he got hunt and had to sit out the season. Why take the chance? Favre stay home until the last minute. Packer/Favre fan Ocala, FL.

  21. They call their coach “Brad”. You know that team is in shambles.
No respect for the coaching staff, different rules for different players, not understanding how many players can be on the field at a given time, skipping practices and forgetting the fundamentals of football by throwing across your body and single-handedly costing your team a trip to the Super Bowl?
I feel bad for the respectable players on that team. The NFLPA should look into it.

  22. Actually, Favre had stopped “partying” before the 1996 season – most of the time it was in Milwaukee when the Packers played 3 games each year at county stadium and when he came down for events in the area.
I saw him out wasted several times – I am two years older than him so I was in party mode as well.
This was also before his addiction to Vicodin.
His wife gave him an ultimatum – shape up or I’m gone and he did just that.
No way he was out partying in 96 and after like he did in his early days with the pack from 92-95.
But unlike some of his teammates, Brett was a funny, affable drinker and did not turn into an a-hole like some of his companions.

  23. To mrcmos……..you are obviously not a GB Packer fan, and I question whether you are even an NFL fan.
I saw Brett in his very first game as a Packer, and I must have seen at least 95 % of them since, and I am thrilled every time I watch him play. I have NEVER seen anyone (well, maybe Reggie White) who has enjoyed the game more. AND Brett has played injured many, many times. How do you think he could possibly have started as many games consecutively that he has. How many other QB’s have come and gone in the NFL since Brett made his first start? If anyone is an “AssClown” (your words, not mine) it’s U. Have a nice day!

  24. Hey CheeseAttack, I would love to see Favre in a Superbowl again. I would forgive any interception just to have Favre back in the big game. How many QB’s can even say that they still had a chance to be in a championship with seconds counting down? I give Favre alot of credit for keeping the Vikes in the championship game. Favre ran for his life most of the game and still was able to keep us all on the edge of our seats. Written by a die hard Packer/Favre fan.

  25. Throwing across the body is what got the Vikes to the championship game. Breakdown in the offensive line is want cost the game.

  26. For the record, I hated the way Favre acted in his later Packer years, telling the GM which player to sign, having a separate locker apart from the others, waffling every off season and complaining about the amount of begging the management was doing to get him to come back. In many ways, he is a prima donna but that seems to fit well with the fags fans of Minnesota who know a thing or two about prima donnas.
Its a team sport and when you set a different set of rules for one player, nothing good is going to come from it. Lombardi wouldn’t have never stood for that for one second. You can’t compare Lombardi to Childress (talk about an understatement) but this is going to come back to bite the Vikings in the butt later on in the season. I wouldn’t feel bad about that when it happens but I will guarantee you that I will be back to remind you.

  27. Amazing…..the guy’s a first ballot hall of famer, in the discussion for best qbs of all time, took his team to overtime of the NFCCG at age 40, is so respected by his teamates that he’s given permission to sit out training camp…and some of you football gods wanna explain the game to him. Except Dewey. Dewey just wants to use bad words like his Mom’s boyfriend.

Don’t worry–I don’t think there are too many of them.
I thought the same thing: “Brad”.
Just indicates the closeness (read: inappropriateness) of their relationship, I guess–Exhibit Z.
    Also don’t forget:
Refusing to come out of a game when the coach calls you out, taking illegal supplements to mask steroid abuse (then refusing to accept the legal consequences), inability to build a new stadium, and blaming your own fans when you don’t sell out home playoff games, among a *BOAT LOAD* of others.

  29. @CheeseAttack, best comment ever. Oh, how I hope the 2010 season ends for Favre with a tragic interception at a crucial moment, again.
@Linda Gygax, I despise Favre, but I genuinely hope that goes well for the humane society and raises a lot of money for the animals.

Seriously guys, you were way too good for him, and you can totally do better. He wasn’t even all that cute.

  31. Everyone rippin on Chilli….has ANYONE drafted better than the vikes since 2006? Please let me know… I think, actually I know chilldress has turned the VIKES roster upside down and has drafted INCREDIBLY well!! The guy sees talent and knows how to put em on the field. Chilli and Spielman are a DEADLY combo!! it will be another DIVISION TITLE for the VIKES!! packers…I hope your 34 yr old tackles don’t crumble cause if they do..rodgers won’t make week 10!

  32. Dewey Axewoond……I mean, it’s not like they’ve ever had ANY standard for themselves as an organization,

Really?? He is 41 years old!! is there anyone else in the league besides a punter that is even close to 40?…please advise…PLUS it worked last year now didn’t it!!

  34. ok…what are they supposed to call Chilldress..COACH?? and where are these different rules for different players? Favre skipped camp when he was with the packers!! The GUY IS A LIVING LEGEND..Face it!! he deserves to sit at home…he has earned that right!! Favre made 2 really bad throws all year…one in the st. louis game and the championship game! WE CRUSHED the saints in EVERY FACET of the game…but at the same time we beat ourselves!! the saints really are no match for MN…BE HONEST people…stats don’t LIE..they don’t!! the funny thing is the NFL didn’t want the saints to come to the DOME!!! thats funny!! Cause it would have been for sure a BLOOD BATH for the who dat(BREES and all the vicoden eating coaches…cause that is a TRUE STORY)

  35. If I were Bretts teammate, I do not have a problem with it. And if his teammates dont care, as a fan, I dont either.

    Winning. It’s all that matters.
As long as they win, everthing’s hunky dory. Everybody loves everybody else. One, big happy family. Coach is a genius.
Ahh, but if they don’t win. The media starts second guessing, coaches are put on the hotseat, and inequalities cause resentment. Guys get thrown under the bus.

Oh and I will be there to remind you when We jam it down your throats again (twice) this year!
We don’t need to win the Superbowl, as long as we keep trouncing your team twice a year all is good. . .I don’t know who was on their back more last year Rodgers or your Mom? ? ?

  39. Favre had an unbelievable season last year….very unexpected. It was almost as though he was injected with youth serum after he threw that last second pass for the win against San Francisco. And he did it all without the benefit of training camp. Good for him. Very noteworthy indeed and very fortunate too.
But I simply cannot believe that he can have anywhere near the same level of success (or even 70%,) two years in a row.
    I guess we’ll see.

  40. I love it. The Vikes can keep waiting on Favre at the expense of the future of their team.
I’ve watched enough seasons of football to know that in situations like this, it rarely ever turns out as good the next year. They had their shot. I know a lot of vikings fans, and the honest ones believe that, too. With Favre, they’ll compete, but it won’t be the same as last year. As soon as he is gone or finally has a bad year, the Packers will rule the north again for a good long time. Maybe that’s why vikes fans are clinging to Favre so closely…they can sense the way the north is shaping up, they don’t like it, and there is nothing they can do about it.

yep look what he did. Confusion caused a 12 man penalty and then a mind blowing stupid interception to end their season. Would these have been avoided with more chemistry that camps provide???? We will never know. I do know this. Favre is not a guy I would want on my team.

  47. Remember when Favre said he didn’t run for the yardage because “he was sooo tired he wasn’t certain if his legs would carry him that far?”
I think you can expect to see that level of fatigue sometime around the sixth or seventh game this year. No training camp? He’s not Superman for crying out loud. Adrenaline, pride, revenge, and a rejuvenated sense of well-being, combined with a legitimate shot at the big prize, all contributed to keeping him on his feet last year. I am confident this year will be very different. And if the Vikings get off to a slow start, be ready for the helium to be let out of that baloon very quickly.

  49. Lots of Packer fan predictions here. Apparently you guys don’t get tired of being wrong.
We don’t respect Packer fans when it comes to football because they are utterly clueless. I mean, they are simply on autopilot. Kool aid drinkers we call them.
Every season it is the same. They just go on and on about how much their team will dominate regardless.
We’ll see once the season starts.

  50. sando says,
“We’ll see once the season starts.”
    —-
it has started. And Minnesota’s QB is nowhere to be found. You improve individually and as a team in the summer at camps. Sorry for you guys. Your season most likely end the same way as last years. but I doubt it will be in a title game though.

  51. I really like “we don’t need to win a Super Bowl” and “inbreeds”. Not respecting Packer fans is a real shocker. I respect Lions and Bears fans because they’ve always been civil with me and the joking has been good-natured. I can’t speak for any other Packer fans, but that’s been my experience. The Vikings fans I’ve encountered have almost all (with the exception of 1 person) been completely over the top a-holes. I love seeing their Dome empty out whenever the Vikings aren’t doing well. It amuses me that there seriously is the threat that the Minnesota Vikings will become the L.A. Vikings one day. I can’t wait until next season. Watching all those face painted, crossdressing fairweather fans leaving their seats early to hide their crying will be so awesome.

  52. I positively can’t help myself.
Dewey, if Chicago were worth anything other than a pile of smelly elephant feces, the rest of the NFC North would care about anything you say. How utterly pathetic. I’m really skeer’d by Julius Peppers and Cutler. Lots of hope on that team, at least on paper. But there is lots of eternal optimism in Detroit every year, too. You’ll say that the Teddies beat Minny on MNF, and, by God, you’re right! I watched, aghast. Last second heroics trumping last minute heroics. And the ball bounces on…..Just like it did in NO.
Sucked like a mighty, ah, hurricane. I love how the Saints fans have taken this mantle of the Championship and are proclaiming world domination until doomsday, and that the Vikings are low-class idiots across the board. See ya 9/9/10 and we’ll all click madly like beetles. The NFL is brilliant in scheduling that one.
Jimmy, what can I possibly say. You’ve been run over by intellectual buses on dozens of occasions, only to bounce, grinning idiotically, like one of those inflatable clowns.. ….Ah, hey, maybe there’s a clue

  53. Last year I predicted when Brett joined the Vikings that he would break down at the end of the season and throw a bunch of interceptions and the Vikes would become a train wreck and lose a bunch of games. And I turned out to be right. BULLSEYE! What do you expect when he feels he can skip camp? Trainwreck!! I told you last year and I see the same thing happening again this year. Have fun again this year Viking fans when Brett causes you to lose everything again. Not like my beloved Packers who didn’t lose the NFCCG last year like the Vikings did! BTW, did I mention all those championships we’ve won too?
    Go PACK!

“I think I’m going to try to convince Brad, right about the START of training camp, to let me go out to Hattiesburg to try to convince Brett,” Allen said”
    ———————————————-
I thought nobody cared if he attended camp or not? I thought nobody thought it was necessary because Favre is just so goldarn good? I thought he could step in for the first snap of Opening Day without missing a beat?
If the above is all true (per the opinions of most of the Viking fan bloggers,) WHY WOULD YOUR BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER WISH HE COULD CONVINCE FAVRE TO SHOW UP AT THE START OF CAMP? Do you think maybe he knows better? You think?
    I’m just sayin’…………………

  56. If the Vikings were to move profootballtalk.com would lose almost all of its web ‘hits’ as the Viking stories seem to always get the most comments.
Its great to be a Viking fan, the most hated team in the NFL. Apparently.
I love it. If they move, I’ll miss it.
The NFL will be dead to me, I’ll throw a ‘purple burning party’ and only follow college football. I’m sure that means little to most, but everything to us that bleed purple and gold.

Listen child…I didn’t post it twice PFT did. You fellow Viking fans are embarrased for you. You and Contra are our JimmySmith and Bob Nelson.
    ********************************
YES! (and the typo just backs up my theory, but I suppose you didn’t do that either?)

  58. Die Hard,
Get some new material. Jimmy and Bobby are clearly your database. Trainwrecks don’t play in the Conference Championship games, boy. You sound pleased that the mighty Packers didn’t have to take that risk. They mercifully lost in the Wild Card round.

  59. DieHardPacker4Life….
You’re either 15 years old or you’re absolutely retarded, either way, Favre and the Vikings didn’t “breakdown” and become a “train-wreck”. In fact, they bounced back every game they lost during the regular season (most notably after their first loss, they went into Lambeau and embarrassed your beloved Packers.) And AGAIN for the record Favre didn’t end the Championship game for us, he merely sent it into OT. He was on fire the entire season; throwing a meager 7 INTs all season (not including the Championship) with 33 TDs. While your Aaron Rodgers single handedly ended the Packers chances of a divisional matchup against the Vikings. Kind of fitting though right? First play from scrimmage INT and last play from scrimmage (kicked) INT. Ask your mother what Underwood did to her…

Hey, most of us (Packer fans) do not want the Vikings to go anywhere. I for one hope that they get the stadium thing worked out and keep on keeping on.

  62. Go Vikings, Kiss some packers ass 2 times 2 years in a row, Season starts Sept 9th against the Ains, 27-17 Vikings

  63. mrcmos-
What is disrespectful is your post calling Favre an assclown. What do you do for a living? I’m going to go out on a limb and say that you are not a professional athlete. The fact that you took the time to post a response to the article shows your petty jealousy. Get a life….loser.

  64. Why are rival fans more upset than Viking fans about Favre skipping training camp? It’s hilarious. Do they sit at thier computers all day waiting for another Favre blog just so they can announce to the sports world how jealous and bitter they are of his success? Pathetic.

  65. @ MissV
Not all rival ‘fans’ just HydraSuperSucks6, Dewey Asshound, JimmySmith, and Boob Nelson. Ok so yeah, all rival ‘fans’.

    I didn’t pick up on this point the first time I read this;
    ——————————————–
“But he did joke that he’d ask coach Brad Childress to let him go to Favre’s hometown when training camp STARTS to get Favre to return to the team.

That what Allen said has to be explained to you is not suprising…..
This is completely tounge in cheek!!!!
What he is saying is he wouldn’t mind skipping training camp either.
None of the Vets want to go. Read up on that.
It’s alarming that you do not see or comprehend the context of which Allens words were spoken.

Cue the nonsense from the lovers….he’s legend, look what he did last year by missing camp, he’s earned the right to skip….blah blah blah.
PFT, please also cue the footage of Favre throwing passes to high schoolers right around July 10th or so.
    ————–
yep look what he did. Confusion caused a 12 man penalty and then a mind blowing stupid interception to end their season. Would these have been avoided with more chemistry that camps provide???? We will never know. I do know this. Favre is not a guy I would want on my team.
    ————————————
Here we go again. When its favre the wins and losses are all on him.
    When it’s GayRod, it’s a team game…….
Super, I lose more respect for your opinions on sports every time you open your mouth or type something.
I thought you knew what you were talking about, but i guess I’m sadly mistaken.
Blatant homer and a hypocrite too boot.
    Wow. Just wow.

  68. Ambrose,
Nice try bud. You try so hard to make comebacks to my posts but they are all just lame and retarded.
Using the “how original” retort is about as pathetic as an entire fanbase obsessing over their opponent all offseason.
