Why the f-ck did Roethlisberger even need to be mentioned in that last paragraph? How about now you start writing about Roethlisberger when an NFL player is arrested for DUI/ DWI? You know, because it involves alcohol. I think Ben is a scumbag, but putting his name into something that has no relevance to him whatsoever (aside from the fact that it involved alcohol), is really stupid Florio.

As a long time Seahawk fan from Tate’s hometown I can say that I am so far unimpressed with Tate and think he should be suspended for 2 games.
Also, I think the shop owners and/or worker probably didn’t press charges because he’s a resident of the building as much as because he’s an NFL player. Of course I may be wrong but it’s at least plausible.

Florio, you forgot to mention that Tate is from Notre Dame. You know that each time an ND alum catches a 2-yard pass, gains 2 yards or makes a tackle it is the reporter’s or announcer’s duty to add Notre Dame to his name.

The 911 call was redundant in any case. By leaving the door open when they entered, the theives allowed the smell of fresh donuts to waft out onto the street, immediately waking up the entire Bellevue police detachment.

It would be stupid to equate what Tate did to what Rothlesberger did. However the common thread is that it stems from an attitude that since they are pro football players the they are in a superior subset of society and that they are better than everyone else.
I have news for them. They are just better at playing football than everyone else and they are generously rewarded for it. Other than that they are no better than anyone else. If I did what Tate did I would have been arrested and charged with petty larceny and would have to appear before a judge. They should too.

Really? Really? Are you all so uptight that you can’t see the humor in this? 2 kids get drunk and the BEST maple bars on the planet are being cooked downstairs in your apartment building. You go down there, the door is open, you grab and giggle and run down the hall with a couple of hot maple bars. This is just a silly prank, not a Bonnie and Clyde crime spree. I heard the 911 call and when the lady working there was asked if she was in danger, she replied “Uh, no. It’s just a couple of drunk guys acting like retards”.
BTW, the cops thought it was funny too.

When word got out that it was a donut shop incident, backup and support officers from as far away as Spokane and Olympia made their way to Bellevue. Many came voluntarily on their time off.

I am a Seahawks fan. I also live a few miles from the Top Pot in question.
Local media reported that the back door to the cafe was left open by an employee who exited to use the restroom.
While the story is somewhat comical, I’m unhappy that Pete Carroll treats it as a joke. It seems the Seahawks must have chiseled “character” off the list of four attributes they demand from players and staff on their mission statement.

Read the seattle times not TMZ if you want to really find out what happened….
According to the bellevue police dept: The donut shop is in the apartment tate lives in, the baker left the door unsecured/open and tate and someone else walked in and were eating a few maple bars. The police came and gave them a warning for tresspassing because they both live in that apartment and the door to the bakery was left open.
Florio how bout you give me a job so i can report some actual facts for you and your site which clearly lacks any credible reporter.

Don’t blame the alcohol for Tate’s behavior!
Many people get really drunk but don’t break the law.
Tate is an A-hole who thinks he’s entitled to do whatever he wants and now he is trying to pass it off by saying, “Oops, I drank too much, it’s not my fault!”. That kind of attitude has gotten a lot of pro athletes in serious trouble and I would be worried if I were a Seattle fan that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

If I’m not mistaken, this was in the middle of the night and the shop was closed. They broke in, ate (stole) donuts and were caught when the night baker came in to start her shift. This wasn’t a case where employees weren’t paying attention in the middle of the day and Tate walked by them and grabbed a free donut off the rack. He broke in, so yes, he did force his way back there.
