little known fact Florio – we now know Hernandez had a torn muscle in his back – perhaps another reason for his draft fall.
and as for pats haters who want to compare the bungles to the patriots – when Belichick signs a guy with history what happens? answer – nothing. Dillon, Moss and others with question marks have been model citizens legally in N.E. Cincinatti – not so much.

The difference here is that the Patriots players rarely get in trouble in patriots uniforms (while on the team… not while on the field).
Also, this guy isn’t some scrub special teamer with a bad reputaiton like Pacman Jones, but a quality h-back/TE (arguably a top 3 TE in the draft).

Shouldn’t EVERY rookie get a deal like this? All they did was play in minor league football. Shouldn’t their deals be built to EARN their money? I’m sorry, but JaMarcus Russel most definitely should have signed a deal like this. It protects the teams from wasting money and motivates the player to do well. Nothing should be guaranteed except a fair shot.

There is a good opportunity on the Pats for this player to earn a spot on the roster This will allow him to learn from Alge Crumpler and Randy Moss what it takes to play in the NFL. The Patriots have former players in house to help the young guys adjust to their new life. The record of devient behavior in Foxboro by players is almost nonexistant. If the Bengals had thought of this plan many of the young men who have been unfortunate to play there might be free of a criminal record. Incentive pay is in the future for many in the league. Owners are sick and tired of watching these immature kids pocket millions then destroy themselves and their teams.
