Earlier this week, the Falcons quietly announced the hiring of Steve Sabo. Though only 36, the veteran scout enjoys a high degree of respect in league circles.
(Cue the “Sabo must be one of Florio’s sources!” comments.)
“We are excited about the addition of Steve to our scouting department,” General Manager Thomas Dimitroff said in a release issued by the Falcons. “Steve has 15 years of scouting experience and possess an adept scouting perspective that we feel will mesh well with our scouting philosophy and scouting department.”
One city in which Sabo enjoys considerably less respect is Cleveland. The former Senior Director of Pro Personnel received a pink slip from G.M. Tom Heckert not long after the new regime arrived in town. Sabo had joined the Browns in 1998, as they were planning to rejoin the NFL.
For now, just remember the guy’s name. When he’s running a team, we can tell you we told you so.
And if he retires in about 30 years without ever doing so, feel free to tell us the same.
