Three of "Core Four" Jets unlikely to receive new deals

M. Tannenbaum.jpgNick Mangold can consider all the holdouts he wants.  According to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com, Mangold, D’Brickashaw Ferguson, and David Harris “will not” get contract extensions in 2010.

This prediction wasn’t positioned as headline news.  “The Jets probably won’t admit this publicly, but I think they’ve already
make a decision to wait,” he writes.

Ah, but Cimini usually possesses a clear idea of what the Jets front office is thinking. Darrelle Revis positioned himself to get a new deal with insane play, but the other three of the Jets’ “core four” players may have to wait until a new collective bargaining agreement is reached.  Like so many others.

This strategy could give Jets G.M. Mike Tannenbaum greater headaches in 2011.  Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes, and Antonio Cromartie are also slated to become free agents then.

That cracking you hear in the backround is the pending implosion of the J-E-T-S jets-jets-jets….LMFAO

  2. Bigbluefan says: Jun 13, 2010 9:26 AM

This is a perfect example of why the jets are the second sting in NY NJ
Get so close you can taste it and now your going to melt down

  3. NYMets says: Jun 13, 2010 9:30 AM

You slugs all have your fingers crossed that contractual discord will give your teams a CHANCE to beat the 2010 NY Jets. This is a fierce team and you all know it. That’s why a Jets story gets bombarded with negative posts.

  4. Venerable Axiom says: Jun 13, 2010 9:31 AM

Obviously Cimini is a __________ (insert crude name here Jet fan). Since all the jet fans here have guaranteed the “core four” will be getting paid this year. Cimini certainly doesn’t know as much as they do.

  5. aec4 says: Jun 13, 2010 9:39 AM

cimini is dead wrong more than any other reporter, and you’re saying he has inside information. That’s funny.

That was probably the case for most teams anyhow. This ongoing “contractual discord” will likely have teams like Buffalo, Detroit, and Cleveland thinking the same now however.

everyone knew these next few seasons were all in for the Jets. still wondering why they didnt hold onto Thomas Jones though instead of giving L.T. a contract he probably doesnt deserve.

Are there any dumber fans in the NFL than Jets and Packer fans? First, they will believe “anything” that their respective mgmt. teams tell them and secondly, they consider it an act of treason if you should doubt what mgmt. says or if you should make a negative comment about one of their players. Woody Johnson is in the process of becoming the next Al Davis, wait and see. He is becoming rather eccentric since the death of his daughter, making irrational statements and comments. Jets and Packer fans are the only fans I know of who do not have the ability to objectively look at the makeup of their teams and believe they are SB caliber teams each and every year…….while the rest of the NFL fans sit back and laugh. The Jets will implode by midseason and are not nearly good enough to make a playoff run……for a blueprint on the current Jets team, look at Snyder’s Redskins for the past decade, money and name recoginition mean nothing when it comes to winning. The Packers haven’t accomplished anything since one BF left and their O-Line is still a shambles and their DB’s are their achilles heel on defense.

Prediction???? I predict …..well,……who cares what I predict!!…These are big news stories? some cheesedick has his ear to the mens room door at the Jets front office? Whatever.

  10. jetsrgood says: Jun 13, 2010 10:28 AM

Is it at all possible that not resigning these players will equal the greates chance for their best performance this year? I mean doesn’t that in essance mean they are all playing for contracts here or elsewhere and don’t professional players tend to have better than average stats in “contract” year?

  11. robsterNY says: Jun 13, 2010 10:37 AM

MrHumble…WOW…Thanks so very much for your predictions ..alot of that crap going around I see. Now woody Johnson is becoming the next Al Davis…I’m Waiting….Still dont see it!….His daughters death did’nt need to be brought into it low blow there ,dont ya think? The Jets will implode by midseason…wow… oh yes we have to check the blueprint….thats right, Snyders Redskins for the past ten yrs….Thanks for telling us all exactly how its all gonna work out. You must have been with Cimini when he had his ear to the mensroom door at the Jets front office…Again …Thanks for letting us all in on it …*LOL*

Tired of all this Jets talk. There no better than 5th or 6th in the AFC. The Colts, Ravens, Chargers, Pats and possibly even the Dolphins will be better than the Jets. Now Jets fans will talk about how they made it to the AFC title game with a rookie QB, who cares they still lost. Please spare me with all this talk of what they did in the off season. L.T is past his prime, so is Jason Taylor, Santonio Holmes has off field issues and Cromartie had one good season back in ’07 plus he has like 20 kids and baby mama drama to deal with.

  14. Rangenius says: Jun 13, 2010 11:42 AM

Every team has these issues. But wow the jealousy of the Jets is impressive.. Keep it coming Jim Rome wannabe’s on this site that comment. Losers…

  15. spudz says: Jun 13, 2010 11:55 AM

#1 — Believe about 10% that is reported by ANY reporter
#2 — Back in April I figured the Jets may challenge the Pats for the AFC Championship
#3 — After all the signings — especially the weird ones like Tomlinson — I was thinking the Jets would be 9-7
#4 — Now I think the Jets could be even worse than 9-7…sucks for the fans for sure

We’re all just laughing at you posers. Funny how the rest of the bottom feeders know better and keep their yap shut but no, not the newark jests. We’re #1!! LMAO!
When you shoot your mouth off and can’t back it up, this is what you get. I would think that 41 years of utter failure would have toughen up your thin skin by now.
Sure… one super bowl appearance is not “all that.” Your franchise is a joke.

Again, a dose of reality for all the J-E-S-T fans (yes I know how I spelled it). Your team BACKED into the playoffs last year by two teams clearly tanking it. You ALMOST had a nice playoff run (if you think losing the AFC title game is a great season, then you are bigger losers than anyone thought). The only thing on your offense that worked was the running game, and your genius management blew it up in the off season. You brought in several characters to add to your locker room (in a bad way). Sanchez is a turnover machine who moves poorly and makes terrible decisions (use your little brains and think back to ANYTIME the JESTS had to pass, it was usually incomplete or frequently an INTERCEPTION).
Yea, keep pouring your money on them in Vegas, the casino’s are loving every minute of it.
NYJ = 6-9 this season, 3rd place in the division.

    @MrHumble,
You really proved your point with the posts of NYMets and robsterNY. Guess it’s good to have jests fans to prove your point for you or maybe others may have questioned what you posted.
    @NYMets,
    You’re just plain hilarious!!!!!!
SAME OL’ JESTS!!!!! It’s in their DNA.

  21. Jonky says: Jun 13, 2010 1:23 PM

Cheesehead, a little background info is probably needed. Everyone following the Jets knew last season was going to be Jone’s last in NY incuding Thomas. Its why he went thru his holdout prior to last season. Shonn Greene had won the starting job and Jones wouldn’t accept it. Jones also had a low yards per carry average. Anyone that watched Jet games saw him average about one and a half yards per carry, but broke three or four big gainers each week. On the same plays Greene would average five and six yeards per carry. Jones was slow and bruising, but the line opened holes that Jones to too long to hit. LT accepted the Jets contract knowing he was the backup. Don’t let facts get in the way of your anti Jet mantra though. BTW why would a Packer fan hate the Jets so much? Must be a decoy name for another Cheatriot fan with huge Jet envy.

Who cares! What about my man Braylon? Why can’t the JETS show the man some love? “Hands of Stone” has led the NFL in drops for the past three years. That’s gotta be worth somethin! Poor boy can’t afford to buy his friend Donte a drink anymore! So low on cash he be thinkin about trading in the Bentley for a Prius! (He don’t think much; “hands of stone” has a “head of air”. Needs a car because he can’t even catch a cab! His friends want him to sell his medicine; he don’t need it because he can’t even catch a cold. Give the man what he deserves! Show some love!

A lot of people are waiting on new contracts due to the CBA uncertainty. Might create a headache for some teams but everyone knew this was coming,

The funny thing is Jet fans have been bashing Cimini for years because he write realistically about the team rather than a fanboy. I am a Jet fan but Jets fans are the worst and most unrealistic fans I have ever seen. Say anything they think is bad about their team and they go off the deep end.
Cimini has been right so many times in the past. He was one of the first to expose Mangini for what he was. He gave us lots of hints in Mangini’s 1st training camp and player dislike of him. He was the first to bring us articles of players accusing Tannenbaum of lying. He is predicted many deals months in advance like Bollinger to the Vikes for a 6th. He has inside sources and knows more about whats going in the Jets than any other beat writer.
He is simply not liked because he is not as much of a homer as other writers. Which is why is he right a lot more often than other beat writers.

Dear Mr. Humble, Interesting comments on what the Jets & Packers are going to do this year. They inspired me to write my first sh@##y post about someone. My question to you will be “What kinda P.O.S brings the death of a mans daughter into his lame attempt to slander the owner of a great team?.” Her unfortunate death has no place in these conversations. Next time try quoting some stats or lame story (like this one) to base your opinions on.
    Peace, CalJetsFan
P.S. My friend, who is a Packers fan, says to eat a dick.

What is so terrible that the Jets have done or have been doing? Not giving players a multi-million $$ extension during a time in the middle of CBA’s is smart.
Regarding all the DNA and B.S. some of you haters are saying….this is a new team, new era for the Jets. They have a young Offense and a very dangerous Defense. You all just love to hate on the Jets because they have a very well rounded team and your scared.
Backing into the playoffs or not, the Jets run to the AFC Championship game was no “luck”. They beat the teams on their schedule when it mattered the most unlike the Dolphins, Texans, Steelers.

  30. HellRelle24 says: Jun 14, 2010 8:52 AM

they will all be signed, none of them is leaving the jet…sorry you jet hating idiots.
all the probowlers will be stuck in green and white, deal or not this year.

“Again, a dose of reality for all the J-E-S-T fans (yes I know how I spelled it). Your team BACKED into the playoffs last year by two teams clearly tanking it.”
That’s funny, cause the Bengals played their starters in the first half and got smacked in the face 27-0. Then we went into Cincy the next week and beat them on their own field. You’re a joke to believe the Bengals were better than the Jets.
“You ALMOST had a nice playoff run (if you think losing the AFC title game is a great season, then you are bigger losers than anyone thought). ”
Losing in the AFC title game is a great season. Its not the best outcome obviously, but if you told us we’d be one of the final 4 teams with a rookie HC and QB and lead the league in defense with a new scheme I would have laughed at you. Maybe losing in the AFC title game to your standards isn’t a great season, but anytime you go beyond your expectations, that is a great season.
“The only thing on your offense that worked was the running game, and your genius management blew it up in the off season.”
Wait a minute, how did we blow up our running game? We still have an awesome line, Faneca was a terrible pass blocker (proven by stats, not opinion) and his run blocking abilities were slipping. Anyone who is a “Jests” fan can tell you that.
“You brought in several characters to add to your locker room (in a bad way). Sanchez is a turnover machine who moves poorly and makes terrible decisions (use your little brains and think back to ANYTIME the JESTS had to pass, it was usually incomplete or frequently an INTERCEPTION).”
Shows how little you watch the Jets. Sanchez actually moves very well and throws better on the run than sitting in the pocket. Watch a football game before making such wild acusations, you look dumb. The roll the pocket out often and do a good amount of bootlegs with Sanchez. Who did we bring in that you would consider a character problem? Holmes? He smokes weed, I’m over it. Cromartie? Cause he has a bunch of kids? Again, not getting arrested and neither player’s ex teams had anything negative to say about them in the locker room. What about the signings of LT and Taylor? Two character guys who are highly respected by their peers? You forgot about them. The Jets locker room is strong enough to keep players in line, especially with Rex.
“NYJ = 6-9 this season, 3rd place in the division.”
Again, you look dumb. There’s 16 games in a season. Have you ever even watched football before? You are from Denver, sweet start last season to crumble down the stretch. You’re probably mad your team is trash and the Jets mad the playoffs over them. Oh yeah, sick 1st round pick, maybe he’ll be relevant in 8 years when they finally develope him into a QB.
