Vince Young receives an assault citation

Earlier today, reports emerged that police in Dallas suspect Titans quarterback Vince Young of assault in the wake of an incident at a local strip club.

Now, Young has received a citation to that effect.

Per CBS 11, it’s a Class C citation for assault, punishable by a fine of up to $500.  And while some may try to claim that it’s not an arrest because Young didn’t do a perp walk, it’s a tomato-tomahto distinction, in our view.  So, yes, the allegation against Young re-sets the “Days Without an Arrest” meter.

According to the report, surveillance cameras captured images of Young charging a man who made a “derogatory” gesture to Young.  (Maybe the guy mocked Young’s sidearm Uncle Rico-style throwing motion.)

Meanwhile, coach Jeff Fisher addressed the situation during his annual charity softball event.  “I’d like to speculate, but we just have to wait until we get the facts,” Fisher said, per TitansRadio.com.  “It’s too early to jump to conclusions.”

Fisher will address the situation again at roughly 7:00 p.m. ET.  His prior comments apparently came before police issued the citation against Young — and before news of video evidence of the incident came to light.

So maybe he’ll soon be able to stroll to a conclusion on this one.

I don’t think so Fisher. It’s not too early for anything. Goodell needs to suspend Vince Young for 6 games. Fair is only fair in the NFL.
I’m still waiting for the 7 Packer players who raped 2 women to be suspended.

Was Fisher wearing a Colts jersey this time or was he sporting a futbol jersey? VY is just upset because the guy did a heisman stance at him.

I heard he assaulted the guy for looking too much like Florio…
… and that the cops are actually going to pay Vince $500 for doing it, and saving them the trouble.
    True story.

For the life of me, I have no idea why professional athletes go to strip clubs. I mean me, myself, I go for the music.
To me there’s just too much other stuff within the clubs that could put you in a compromising position.
I mean, you’re the starting qb of an NFL team. You can have virtually ANY piece you want. Why go the stripper route?
I guess VY is in line for a 6 game suspension.

Speaking of idiot, was Ben ever charged in the GA case? And the Nevada deal, if going off the innocent til proven guilty premise that used to be the way justice worked, anywho, well, figuring that charges in NV were filed a year after the fact AND when Ben was in town for a celebrity golf tournament, the NV case is sketchy at best.

    —————————————————-
Maybe it’s a state by state thing…I know in Virginia any traffic ticket you get is technically a summons. However, they don’t arrest you for running a stop sign…it simply means they’re summoning you to appear in court a certain day…
Yes, not showing in court can lead to a bench warrant and what not, but it sounds like he was given what the lowest level law offenders are given…a summons…not arrested.

Innoncent until proven guilty. If Big Ben gets 4-6 based on allegations of which were later dropped. K.Y. jelly the flaming Tack QB should at least get suspended, for assault charges, in which there is VIDEO proof of guilt….
but we shall see how The Shield deals with this one.

This really shouldn’t be much of a story. I mean, ok, an NFL QB got in a fight. But it happens. He didn’t “assault” anyone. Assault implies that VY just got up and attacked someone. The guy was clearly trying to piss him off, and well, I guess you get your wish sometimes.
I pray he doesn’t get a suspension for this. Granted, it looks bad for the NFL, but its only a misdemeanor. What’s next? Suspensions for traffic tickets?

He should have been charged with at least indecent exposure for walking around with his dick hanging out, those are facts that everyone agreed upon. The fact that the girl got paid off not to testify doesn’t mean that she didn’t say “No” and Ben ignored her.
The Steelers are in for a bad season with all this bad karma hanging over their heads and the Steeler fans excusing Big Ben just puts more bad karma on top of what’s already there. Enjoy your 6-10 season.

TEX PE. CODE ANN. § 22.01 : Texas Statutes – Section 22.01: ASSAULT
    (a) A person commits an offense if the person:
    (1) …
    (2) …
    (3) intentionally or knowingly causes physical contact with another when the person knows or should reasonably believe that the other will regard the contact as offensive or provocative.\
    (b) …
    (c) An offense under Subsection (a)(2) or (3) is a Class C misdemeanor

TEX PE. CODE ANN. § 12.23 : Texas Statutes – Section 12.23: CLASS C MISDEMEANOR
An individual adjudged guilty of a Class C misdemeanor shall be punished by a fine not to exceed $500.

    From the Tennessean:
The Dallas Police Department issued Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young a Class C assault citation for his role in a Sunday morning altercation at a Dallas strip club.
According to the incident report, [Titan QB Vince] Young struck another man in the face during an early morning altercation at Club Onyx [in Dallas]. The alleged fight occurred between 3-4 a.m. [Sunday morning.] After interviewing with police on Sunday, Young received a Class C citation, which carries a maximum fine of up to $500.
Dallas Police Lt. Andy Harvey said the offense “is equivalent to receiving a traffic citation.’’
Harvey said Young, 27, and an employee of the club, Creiton Kinchen, 45, got into a verbal altercation after Kinchen flashed a derogatory ‘Horns down’ sign in reference to Young’s alma mater, the University of Texas. Young then allegedly went after Kinchen.
“There were words exchanged. The (guy) gave an upside ‘Hook ’em Horns’ and that’s kind of what started the verbal altercation. … It upset Vince Young and the next thing you know they were involved in a scuffle,’’ Harvey said. “The other guy received very, very minor injuries. He received a cut lip at the most. It didn’t even swell. It wasn’t like a punch.’’
Kinchen was not cited because he didn’t throw a punch, Harvey said. On Sunday, Young talked to police.
“He was cooperative,’’ Harvey said. “He didn’t have to come in, but he came in and spoke with us.’’

Shorter: If the new threshold for “Days Without an Arrest” includes offenses that cops describe as the “equivalent to receiving a traffic citation”, please adjust your meter accordingly.
“Days Without an Arrest” should now read “Hours, Minutes, Seconds Without an Arrest”.

Hey, the facts are pretty damning on Ben, but one way or another, they did not warrant charges being filed. Whether that’s due to Ben’s income versus a college student in Milledgeville, pressure from the media digging into the girl’s history, bottom line is he was not charged. That’s why legal issues are decided in courts and not on computers, Sportscenter, and call in shows.
Maybe the Steelers would have suspended Ben (personally I wish they did because now everytime a player gets arrested, everyone is going to demand Goodell suspend him for 6 games like I did.) but they never got the chance. Goodell set the precedent.
