It is really hard to empathize with the players. When the rest of the country saw 10% unemployment, decreasing salaries, and other economic downturns, the football players getting paid millions are crying about not getting an extra million or two.
Give me a break, Rosenhaus. I can’t empathize with you when you’re crying in your Lamborghini.
The owners have every right to do what they want. It’s supply & demand. The players have been overpaid & overvalued for a long time; like the real estate market, prices are correcting. Take it on the chin like the rest of us and stop being a whiny little spoiled brat.

Couple of issues that have “tainted” this year’s free agency.
A whole bunch of players that should have been UFA’s are not simply because of the uncapped season rules. They’re the ones that are the most upset and they were dealt a second blow by the 30% salary increase rule. They don’t want to sign a long term contract with their current team without testing the market to see what they can get, and they can’t do that as a RFA.
The teams at the top of the heap were denied access to UFA’a by the Top 8 rule of the uncapped season. These teams are traditionally just a player or two away from making it back and could be big players in the free agent market but are denied the right to pursue unless they’ve already lost an equal amount of value.
The player’s union simply did not do their homework on who would fair better in the uncapped season. It seems obvious that everything falls into the owners favor. They can spend as much as they want, but there’s nothing for sale and you can’t give your existing players more than a 30% raise.

These “bloodsucking” agents only see situations from their greed based point of view and the players are in lockstep right behind. I can’t believe the “short memory” concept. The only short memory that seems to be in play is how much can I be paid and by whom…this week! Let’s consider BabyAlbert. He signs for $100 million and one (1) year later he is unhappy. So much for players being “happy” when their paid. Maybe the players and the agents should think about joining the real world. If your “unhappy” with what your doing for a living, just quit and look for something else. Yeah right…FatChance.

Why should the NFL be aggressive in signing guys, Mr. Rosenhaus? “Collusion or not…..” Uh, why is it only bad if owners do it? If players do it it’s called a union, but if owners work together for the betterment of the sport at their end, it’s called collusion and thus is bad?

So over paid players don’t play hard because they don’t like their contract – hmmm – makes me think there will be more roster room for rookies who make less money – that will make owners like Mike Brown very happy. Lower payroll means higher profits which is what the owners have been wanting out of this. I really thought agents like Rosenhaus would be smart enough to see this coming and pressed their clients and the Union to get the best deal they could so they could avoid the uncapped year – no cap also means no floor…

The threat that the teams will regret this rings hollow.
1) If the players under-perform on the field, the joke will be on them when they do reach unrestricted free agency and no one wants to pay then because there performance fell off. (also teammates won’t put up with players dogging it on the field, and it is also the easiest way to get hurt in football)
2) If the players hold grudges against their current teams and refuse to re-sign with them after the new labor deal and they reach unrestricted free agency, that team will just replace the player with a disgruntled player from another team.

That sounds all fine and dandy, but he must of forgot that if his client doesn’t go out and perform well this year he’s not going to make anything next year on the open market.
If a player doesn’t perform well this year then teams aren’t going to spend the money said player wants. Thus another reason why teams don’t care if the players are upset or not.

What a bunch of crybabies. Free-agency went off with a bang, for the players, in the 1990s because contracts were expiring and clubs didn’t try to extend them, at least at first. In the late 1990′s, and early 00′s, too many clubs were purging quality guys because they over-paid in the early FA rush and hit cap troubles.
But that didn’t continue. By 2005, virtually every club had its cap and signing strategy in order. Good players are resigned before they hit free agency and most caps are well managed so there are no “veteran purges” like the 49ers, Jaguars and a few others went through.
Consequently, there just aren’t a lot of good FAs on the market.
The best true FA QB to sign in the past five years was Drew Brees. And he was coming off rotator cuff surgery and there was no guarantee that he’d last. After him, old-and-worn-out Jeff Garcia…
And we can go on. Second rate, one-dimensional and over-the-hill players are abundant. But they’re not worth signing at the ridiculous demands their agents put out there.
And yet, it’s “the clubs” who are fault?
That’s stupid. It took TIME for clubs to figure out how to manage free-agency. Some clubs, like the Cowboys, Jaguars, Redskins and 49ers were destroyed by their cap-mismanagement and poor free-agency choices. Some have rebuilt. Some have not.
But to sit there and whine? Chad “no shoulder/injury risk” Pennington was the best FA QB out there. I wouldn’t touch him. A bunch of injured/over-the-hill backs? Draft someone young. The ones that aren’t franchised aren’t worth it. Those that are franchised, aren’t worth two first round picks…
At WR do you really want “stone hands” TO? He’s 36 and not the explosive play-maker he once was, yet he still remains a locker-room cancer. After him, there was Antonio Bryant and a load of scrubs.
I could go on, position-by-position, pointing out that there are virtually no starting quality “solution to a problem” players available. A few stop-gaps, but the bottom line is that these aren’t the feeding-frenzy days of Reggie White’s and Ronnie Lott’s hitting FA.

Those players are making plenty of money and the fact that greedbag Rosenslime is the one bitching doesn’t surprise me at all. Of course that walking piece of human greed is upset that he isn’t making the commissions he normally would.
The players made their choice and bought into that idiot DeSmith to head the union, Smith has done a pathetically horrible job of trying to get a new CBA done and now the players have to live with their mistake.
Tough. STFU you are still making tons of money and I have zero sympathy for them.

Of course they’re not happy! For years, the union leadership has misled the players about what an uncapped year meant. Gene Upshaw promoted the heck out of it and created unrealistic expectations, and he failed his membership by not educating them about the rules that are in place in an uncapped year. They have every right to be unhappy–and the union leadership deserves 100% of the blame for failing its members.

If this was truly a news site (which it isn’t) you would have balanced this story by including the difficulty in extending contracts when the 30% rule is in effect.
The “30% Rule” governs veteran contracts that are entered into in a capped year and extend into the final year of the CBA. The rule states that these contracts cannot have an annual increase of more than 30% of the salary, excluding amounts treated as a signing bonus, provided for in the FINAL CAPPED YEAR.
This is impacting the ability to enter into long term agreements, more so than anything else.
