Recently, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that the Oakland Raiders offered a fifth-round pick for former Jaguars defensive tackle John Henderson and that the Jags rejected the offer before cutting Henderson.

According to Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union, the Raiders “put out” the story to the media, and the story isn’t true.

“The Raiders didn’t offer any pick for Henderson but hey why let the truth get in the way of a good story?” Stellino writes via Twitter.

Of course, it’s possible that the Jaguars have “put out” a denial to Stellino, and that he has opted to give the team he covers the benefit of the doubt. Really, without access to tape recordings of any conversations that may have occurred between the two teams, it’s impossible to know the truth.

Especially in an industry where lying represents not only an accepted business practice, but an encouraged one.
