First-round pick gets arrested

A relatively arrest-free offseason has given way to a handcuff free-for-all in June.

And now the 2010 rookies, apparently applying a “When in Rome” vibe, are getting in on the act.

Titans defensive end Derrick Morgan, the 16th overall pick in the draft, has been arrested in Georgia, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean.

Per the report, Morgan was apprehended Wednesday for speeding and for driving with a suspended license.

Morgan, who played college football at Georgia Tech, was driving 91 miles per hour in a 70-mph zone.

alabaster–read again. He didn’t just get a speeding ticket. He was arrested, which isn’t normal in the event of a speeding ticket. More accurately, he was arrested for driving with a suspended license, and he was speeding.

***************************** You think so?!? They signed Pac Man Jones, you dweeb. that’s good for another 4 arrests this year alone!

  24. BroncoBourque says: Jun 18, 2010 12:43 AM

This isn’t THAT big a deal but you do have to wonder how smart a guy is when he drives 12 mph over the speed limit with a suspended license. It’s one thing to have your license suspended, even driving with a suspended license I can understand but not being smart enough to drive carefully under those circumstances is pretty puzzling.

  25. J. Clayton says: Jun 18, 2010 12:53 AM

Once Wince Dung starts throwing like Flipper – and Chris Johnson gets his bling and quits trying, and their 1st round pick gets executed via firing squad,

  34. HouTxFan says: Jun 18, 2010 4:28 AM

Hmmm…driving 91 mph in a 70-mph zone when your license is suspended. Proof that the Titans have started drafting players that scored higher on the Wonderlic than VY?!?

  35. FlynHawaiian43 says: Jun 18, 2010 6:45 AM

Let’s see here, I’m gonna go with raping! It seems to be the only one without an arrest! Come on guys, you’ve bagged a whore before! The only reason she didn’t cry rape on you is because you don’t have anything other than a c**k to go after!

  39. RayDaMayor says: Jun 18, 2010 7:44 AM

Everyone is overreacting. The Titans will give him $15,000,000.00, he’ll pay his fine and become like many before him in the league. See, money can buy you a free pass.

Okay, AP lovers. Tell me how this is fair. Your boy goes 109 in a 55 and pays a $300 fine and keeps his license. This kid goes 91 in a 70 and is arrested. Can you say double standard?

  43. myopinionisrighterthanyours says: Jun 18, 2010 8:27 AM

Can you say “driving on a suspended license”? Or can you just not read?
I’m guessing his license is suspended because he likes to drive fast.

  48. clint_taurus says: Jun 18, 2010 9:05 AM

    follow-up:
Morgan never received notification that GA suspended his license and was driving unaware…
anyone who’s ever dealt with GA (or TN) DMV/DDS knows this is completely believable…I actually feel sorry for this guy and the red tape he will now have to wade thru…

  49. Benjammin04 says: Jun 18, 2010 9:13 AM

Umm, it’s the driving w/o a license thing that is the main problem here. Didn’t Vincent Jackson do this last year too? Why do they bring attention to themselves???
Attention Athletes: If you are going to drive with a suspended license you should be driving like your 90 year old grandmother. 5 miles below the speed limit. Hands at 10 and 2. Seatbelt on. Turn signals used at every turn.

  55. PriorKnowledge says: Jun 18, 2010 10:27 AM

They arrested him for speeding? What kind of craziness is this? Those GA state troopers should be ashamed of themselves. Don’t they have better crimes to occupy themselves with.

  56. EaglesFreak89 says: Jun 18, 2010 10:58 AM

Wow, hasn’t played a down in the NFL and already is arrested. Way to go Eagles for passing on him! Brandon Graham will have more sacks and will beat this kid out for Defensive Rookie of the Year!

  57. Idle Hands says: Jun 18, 2010 11:18 AM

you can’t reset the arrest meter for this since he’s not officially part of the NFL because he doesn’t have a contract signed.

  58. HC says: Jun 18, 2010 2:01 PM

Not exactly the sharpest blade in the drawer to be doing 91 on a suspended license.
Cue the ‘I had no idea it was suspended, I was never notified’ excuse – which of course disregards whatever it was that caused his license to be suspended in the first place.

  59. The Real Shuxion says: Jun 18, 2010 3:01 PM

Nice call on that one Jeff Fisher. You still may be able to trade him for two gallons of mustache cream.
