If Favre were retiring, Allen assumes he would have said so

Vikings defensive end Jared Allen says Brett Favre politely declined an invitation to Allen’s recent wedding. But Allen assumes that no news from Favre means he’s coming back this year.

“If I was a betting man, and I had to put money on it today, absolutely,” Allen said on ESPN Radio in Chicago. “I hope if the answer was no, he would have already had the wherewithal to tell us that he’s not coming back so we could have done something in free agency.”

Saying the Vikings would have done something in free agency if they didn’t expect Favre back isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement of Tarvaris Jackson, but Allen said he expects Favre to make it a moot point in a couple months.

“But again, the man’s earned the right to do what he pleases,” Allen said. “He hasn’t let anybody down yet, so I’m not here to start harping on it yet.”

Interestingly, although Allen can forgive Favre skipping training camp, he said he’d be annoyed if he were a teammate of Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, who’s skipping the team’s minicamp.

“If I’m a teammate like that, I’m probably pretty [ticked], because that’s a pretty lucrative contract,” Allen said. “I’m all for everybody getting the most money they can get, and getting paid, because our career is brutal and doesn’t last very long. But I’m also a man of my word and integrity. When I sign a contract, I’m going to show up and I’m going to play it out.”

Favre will show up and play, too. Just not on the schedule that the rest of the team has to adhere to.

Gee Michael, bitter much ??? Why is it that people in the media (including those at PFT) are soooooooo obsessed with when/if/how he comes back ??? If the Queens players and coaches (and now announcers) don’t care, WHY IN THE HELL DO YOU ??????????????
Oh that’s right, the whores at PFT keep putting up all these non story/stories on Favre because it gets more clicks on their site, and thus, more money for Florio.

  2. Allen expects Favre to make an announcement in the middle of June ???? And end his stale bread game of ” keep ’em guessing ” so soon !!!! PLEASE !!!

  3. how much longer is PFT going to drag this out? No, im not asking how much longer Favre is going to drag this out…im asking how much longer PFT is going to fish for clicks.

  4. silly vikings….”I hope if the answer was no, he would have already had the wherewithal to tell us that he’s not coming back so we could have done something in free agency.” …. Farve held the Pack hostage for years with this crap… You’ll learn

  5. Sure Jared Allen, Brett is going to put the team first for a change, yeah right.
Say hello to that Cu#% of a girlfriend for me.

  6. Favre has said he’s retiring twice already. Like it would prove something if he said it a third?

  7. They guy that mows the yard, for the guy that brings the meat to the grocery store that the girl who does Deanna’s hair shops at says he doesn’t know if Favre’s coming back yet either. But the guy that brings that meat says that Deanna’s hair dresser keeps asking him for ice so he’s sure that he’s rehabbing the ankle pretty vigorously. And the kids at the school yard are all anxiously waiting for Favre to come out and throw them some balls (his version of training camp)……………so it seems everyone in Kiln/Hattiesburg thinks he’s coming back, although the guy that shines the shoes of the guy who drives the limo for Favre’s banker says he isn’t so sure.
Do you think you guys can find anyone else with an opinion about Favre’s return? I’ve about exhausted my research.

  8. The difference between Favre and Haynesworth is that Favre has played in this system for his entire career while the Redskins are switching to a 3-4 and I would assume being present while they work out the kinks of that system would be pretty important. Comparing Allen’s acceptance of Favre and his disappointment with Haynesworth’s situation is a non-issue.

  9. The Vikings don’t care about Favre skipping OTAs or camp for that matter, in fact since he finished 3rd in MVP voting after skipping camp last year they probably hope he skips it again this year. It’s just funny how much it pisses off some packer fans that the Vikings don’t care when Favre shows up.

  10. It’s so god damn funny watching the Vikings and their fans sweat this out. I will laugh my ass off if brInt decides to stay home with his bastard grandson.

Viking fans are not sweating this. HAHA, glad to think you think so.

  12. GregJenningsFanClub …… what a waste of flesh. I’m sure Jared will read this, and if he did, he would be so hurt by a comment like that from a loser like you.

  13. PULL&SEAL, I think you meant to say “I wish the Vikings and their fans were sweating this out and I’m deeply disappointed that they’re not. Also, I really wish Ted Thompson wasn’t too cheap to sign free agents and that he could draft better and that there was any real possibility that he might get married someday.”

  14. When Allen says Favre hasn’t let anyone down yet, what does he call that last INT in the championship game? What do the other 52 Packers call Favre’s INT in OT of the 2007 championship game? What about his 6 INT’s in the playoff game against the Rams or his OT INT in the playoff game against the Ealges? Even if the Viking fans aren’t the sharpest knife in the drawer, surely you must notice a pattern here. Yes, stick his Favre but come the post season, he will be sticking it to you.

  15. Said by a McCauley Caulkin like face with hands slapping cheeks:
“Favre hasn’t given notice yet?? That means that if he got caught juicing trying to recover and prepare for the season that he has a built in excuse.
    How convenient??!!!!”
It blows my mind how many dumb-assess still think that its indecision that keeps Favre from not committing.
R-tards. See through the smoke and mirrors you fools.

  16. Did Joe Montana earn the right to skip training camp? How about John Elway? Or Bart Starr? Or Johnny Unitas?

  17. I will laugh my ass off if Favre decides to retire right before the season and screws the Vikings. I hope not because I want to see Suh sack him. Go Lions!

No. It doesn’t piss us off. It’s funny when players like Adrienne Peterson think they can do the same because the organization put on their kneepads for Favre out of desperation. Why would we be pissed? We have a better QB and he’ll actually be around for the next decade. All you can do is hope, pray and beg him to come back to rip your hearts out one more time with a stupid stupid INT. The more things change…the more they stay the same.

  19. Contra –
I know more than a few Viking fans who actually are sweating it. Then again, they’re rational people. It would be nice to see a little rational thought about Favre here, not just the usual rhetoric. That said, Go Pack!

  20. If I were a betting man I’d sat your going to get your ass kicked in the superdome no matter who is under center. Bring your mullet and your cute sweaters.

  21. I think Favre’s coming back, but I’d like him not to only to see the huge disappointment in the Vikings organization and some of their fans.

  22. I hope he walks in off the street, puts on his uniform, goes out onto the field, and gets the crap kicked out of him.

  23. bc’s chainsaw hand – Good point. I do think “sweating it out” is a bit strong, I do want him to play this year. Main reason being Jackson and Rosencopter would be a weak link in an otherwise potent offense. And he proved last season he still had game. Unlike most, I am not so sure he will be back. While I wish he would tell us he will be back, Im not foolish enough to expect it. And while I would like to hear that he is…there is nothing I can do about it, so…what are ya gonna do? I think Ill have a beer!!

  24. Like Brett, Jared’s best days were in another uniform long ago. Although Allen is the undisputed KING DOUCHE of Vikings-Douche-Nation……

  25. Favre is a little bitch. He waits until june to have his “surgeries” as an excuse to not attend mini camp and the majority of training camp. sickening.

  26. Yawn……..who cares….I don’t even know why i check these threads anymore…..same old shit, different day…Queen fans= we are the paper champions and made it to the NFC championship game!!!! We Rule!!!

This is one classy post…..I wouldn’t bother to comment other than it appears to me that a good many Packer fans are “sweating BF’s decision to return” more than Vikings fans. Have you ever realized how many people make certain comments to try and hide their real fears? It sounds so much more macho to accuse vikings fans of sweating this out when it is actually many packer fans who are really sweating it out. If you polled viking fans i think you would find that 98% don’t even consider it as an “if” and to add insult to injury, the same 98% couldn’t care less if he attends training camp or not. Everyone in Mn is quite content with the current status but it seems to be bothering more people east of MN.

  28. @JimmySmith,
You seem to bring up Favre’s INT in the NFC championship, but seem to forget this gem:

Erin’s fantastic close to the 1st round choke he had vs Arizona.
    Remember that?
BTW, 99% of Vikings fans aren’t “sweating” Favre’s decision. The fact that the organization hasn’t signed a FA QB or made a trade, and that the coach has talked to Favre on multiple occasions proves enough.

  29. Oh stop it please! I’m so sick of hearing, he can do what he wants, he’s earned it. The only thing he’s earned is the right to show up and go to work like everyone else on the team. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are much better quarterbacks than he’ll ever be and they have earned a helluva lot more respect than he ever will too. And yea, they actually show up and work with their teams. (I’d also bet they’d go to a team mates’s wedding if invited). So stop saying Mr. I NeedAllTheAttentionICanGet has earned the right to do what he wants. The only thing he has earned is the right to ride off into the sunset! And I would gladly slap the horse’s ass if it would speed it up! (and I’ll let you guess whom I referring to when I say I would gladly slap it!) And BTW, I noticed in the last game he played, he surely does like a lot of ass slapping, doesn’t he !

  30. In all those paragraphs, the one word that leaps out is YET, as in “I’m not going to start harping on it yet.”

  31. Franchise says: You seem to bring up Favre’s INT in the NFC championship, but seem to forget this gem
    ==================================
Even you aren’t that stupid? I asked, “Notice a pattern?” Here is what a pattern looks like:
2001 season–Favre throws 6 picks in playoff loss to Rams
2002 season- 2 INT, 54.4 rating in playoff loss to the Falcons
2003 season—OT INT in playoff loss to the Eagles
2004-Favre throws 4 INT’s, 55.4 rating in playoff loss to the Queens
2005, No playoffs this year, Packers go 4-12 but most people don’t remember that 8 times in the 2005 season, Favre took the field in the fourth quarter with his team in position to tie or take the lead and in all eight games, he threw INT’s.
2006—Another no playoff season, thanks in large part to Favre’s QB rating for the season of 72
2007—OT INT in a playoff loss to the Giants
2008– Jets went 1-4 over the final 5 games with Favre throwing 9 INT’s to miss the playoffs.
2009—OT in the final seconds of a playoff loss to the Saints.
Einstein once said, Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. So good luck with your future HOF QB, he is nothing but a choke artist in my book

    Not any I know.

  33. Jared Allen said: “I hope if the answer was no, he would have already had the wherewithal to tell us that he’s not coming back so we could have done something in free agency.”
    Aaahh, haaaahaaaaahahahahahahahahaha!!!!
    Signed,
    Every Packers fan.

  34. “But I’m also a man of my word and integrity.”
Same thing Allen said to the judge during his first DUI hearing. He is a good player, but too dumb to be talking to the media.

  35. Is Jared Allen really this stupid???? I know he acts that way on the field and in the locker room, but is he that unaware??????

  36. PackFansLikeSheep says:
“… and that there was any real possibility that he (Ted Thompson) might get married someday.”
Hey PFLS- I don’t particularly agree with T.T.’s philosophy on signing free agents either. In fact I wish they would replace him for that reason.
But why must your comments ALWAYS include juvenile homophobic references?
    You must really feel threatened.
Or guilty about some past incident….
Grow up, douchebag. Welcome to the year 2010.

  37. The wish washing is why Packer fans threw him out of their team and legacy forever. And it eats at them that Vikings fans and players don’t really care when he shows up, then dominate when he does. Just eats at them.

  38. To all you people in MN — Here’s hoping none of you, or any of your family, were anywhere near those tornados. And yes, that goes for the idiot hoomers here too, if they happen to live in MN. Fun us fun but I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. Take care.

  39. Anyone that reads this and has been working at their job for more than 15 years make sure you go tell your boss Monday that you have earned the right to show up whenever you feel like it.
If it can work for Brett, it can work for you too!!

  40. Brett Favre : 4 wins, 7 loses the last 2 years in December and January. That whole missing camp to finish strong thing seems to be working out quite well.
