Marvin Lewis likes for Ochocinco to "stay the hell away" from OTAs

Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco has skipped most of the team’s organized team activities. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis says that’s just the way he likes it.

“Remember what we said when he went to Dancing With The Stars?” Lewis asked. “It was the best thing. Stay the hell away from me and give other guys reps and snaps and he wouldn’t be in my ear all the time saying, ‘Why am I here? I’m not getting any reps.’”

Of course, it would also be possible for Ochocinco to participate in offseason workouts and not be in Lewis’s ear all the time. But that’s just not in Ochocinco’s makeup, and there’s a part of Lewis that likes the fact that Ochocinco complains when he doesn’t get reps in practice.

“And it’s good for him because you can’t wear him out when he’s here because he wants to take every snap,” Lewis said. “He’s had four good practices. We’ve had guys out here that haven’t been practicing and they look behind. He doesn’t look behind. He’s way different than he was in ’08. He’ll be fine.”

As we noted in today’s one-liners, Ochocinco has been participating in this week’s minicamp, and he caught a touchdown pass at Wednesday’s practice. Lewis called that catch “a hell of a play.”

Hey, Carson was the one who was b-ing and complaining about Ocho not being there.

everything is going smooth with the bengals….our Z-Fense will be elite this year again, even more so than last year. Oh and BTW Leon Hall and J Joseph were ranked 3rd and 6th best corners last year respectively- that should put to rest the “best CB tandom” argument. In other news- J Jo isn’t being a whiney bitch like Revis about his contract, he’s patiently letting things play out even though we’ve given him 2 offers (which have been rejected). All is well in the Jungle, unless of course your a poop-stain, ratbird, or a squeeler….

This is all about the Bengals not getting any ink in the media or the NFL web sites. Stinko certainly saw the article from some Dallas writer that ranked the Ravens 3rd in his June NFL power rankings behind the Colts and Cowboys with the Bengals not even ranked in the top ten after winning the division last year. Stinko HAD to respond to that. Now Marvin Lewis is joining in since he has seen how Rex Ryan has gotten so much ink for the Jets by running his mouth.
Rex Ryan is FAR smarter than Ocho. Notice he hasn’t said ONE WORD about the Ravens who play the Jets in the opening game at the new stadium. Rex is a VERY smart guy….Ocho is a knucklehead and Marvin wanted to see his name in the media in some fashion.

Marvin should give seminars on how to manage a diva WR.
Every other diva WR (Moss, TO, Brandon Marshall, Keyshawn, etc.) bounced from team-to-team in their careers. But Ocho has stayed with the Bengals and has stayed more or less happy. There have been rough periods, but Marvin has never allowed the relationship to completely fracture. If Ocho played for any other coach he would likely be on his third ior fourth team by now.

He has been in charge as much as Harbaugh has been. Harbaugh isnt the GM neither is Marvin for us….So your point? Good luck in 2 matchups this year hope those corners knees hold up….
Also for teams thinking “bengals and controversy here we come” or “bengals are going 6-10 in 10″
Well just like most teams if we keep our KEY players healthy all year we will be there in the end…MEANING fighting in the playoffs for the idiots that read BEYOND the message…..LOL
SHISH aint going to be easy with Cincy if you think that THEN YOU DONT KNOW FOOTBALL!

Yeah it sounds like Carson and Marvin aren’t on the same page here about Chad’s attendance at OTA’s. It probably is better off that Chad stay away to let the rookies and younger guys get the reps they need. Chad doesn’t need that many reps. He’ll be fine.

  11. BengalsDouche2 says: Jun 17, 2010 11:10 AM

And what coach isn’t going to like it when a guy is complaining that he’s not getting reps in practice? It’s obvious he wants to prepare for the season. It’s better than having some jackass b!tching about having to practice in the heat or anything like that. Chad shows he’s out there to compete and get ready. What coach wouldn’t like that?

  13. BengalsDouche2 says: Jun 17, 2010 11:14 AM

Ravenmuscle- That made no sense at all. It’s not like Marvin went to Florio or whoever and said “hey please put this out there man. we need some publicity”. A statement was taken from Marvin about Chad’s absence from OTA’s and since it involved Chad and OTA’s then it was put on the site. Had it involved Geanty and OTA’s, Florio wouldn’t have farted at the article. Marvin is the LAST coach that wants his name out in the media. Get a clue dude. You still butt hurt that we swept your asses last year? You’re finally starting to realize that we’re going to lay it on you again this year too.

  14. steelersmichele says: Jun 17, 2010 11:56 AM

Ravenmuscle: Rex is a very smart guy…he left the Ravens :)
Power Rankings don’t mean anything–every time the Steelers were ranked #1 we lost in the playoffs (and when we were ranked around #10 we won the SB) so I wouldn’t count on that.
Football: Lewis and 85 must have one heck of a relationship, and I admire that. For as much as the team has gone through, both have stayed in their positions. Consistency is key, and it will eventually pay off.

If you are OK with your marquee WR having fights, not showing up for practices even as your QB complains that he should be there, then something is amiss. Is it Palmer who has been out of line you think? Cause he seems to understand that no one player is bigger than the team, which Marvin certainly hasn’t enforced. We went through that with Billick and it is all good as long as you are winning, but can head south in a hurry. One more trip to the playoffs without a W for the Bengals and the questions about the inmates running the asylum will be right back, and justifiably so.

  17. WhoDeySood5 says: Jun 17, 2010 12:11 PM

Ravenmuscle- where did this Rex Ryan vs Ochocinco thing come about….who’s smarter?!?! There was a scene from Hardknocks on HBO last year that showed Marvin basically telling/teaching Chad how banks work/make money….no one has ever said he’s a brainchild, and where does Rex Ryan have anything to do w/this article….btw we did destroy you twice last year so Chad’s comments are dead on. Plus Chad is better than every WR on your roster, can’t wait for him to snap ankles/knees of your DB’s this year

  18. Sourdough says: Jun 17, 2010 12:12 PM

Too bad Carson Palmer hasn’t been the same QB since his knee surgery. Ravens should win the AFC North this year.

I’m gonna end the Ravens vs. Bengals thing right now. Let me be clear the Ravens franchise is better than the Bengals and I’m gonna support that with facts not babble. As you will see since 2002 the year the Texans entered the league and it went to a 32 team 8 division format the Bengals haven’t done squat and when you compare team history the Bengals have three times more years in the league and the Ravens are still better…let me explain.

Ravens win bag heads. Hey Ravens fans for now on all Bengals fans should be known as bag heads because the same guys that get excited when the bengals are decent are the same guys who’ll have bags on their heads when they suck! Haha

GROWNsimba….nice lion king reference in your name duesch….haha keep your stats laminated in a binder right next to your stack of Playgirls. Can you provide stats on Marvin’s Tenure vs the Ravens???? (I already know the answer, but I’d prefer to see it come off your keyboard instead of mine). Since you’re so well versed in concrete validity of stats, I will assume you’re also aware that the NFL (more than any other major pro sport) is a “what have you done for me lately” type of league. Again, I urge you to look at head to head wins, specifically over Marvin’s tenure as Bengals HC…..CAN NOT WAIT FOR THIS YEAR

  21. dabarber says: Jun 17, 2010 12:33 PM

The Bengals will disappoint again…like they always do.
Doesn’t matter how good they are it is just in their blood to be a”loser” city–I think they like it that way.

  22. ochostinko says: Jun 17, 2010 12:34 PM

Hey GROWNsimba- you forgot a stat:
    Murderers- Ravens: 1, Bengals: 0

  23. BengalsDouche2 says: Jun 17, 2010 12:47 PM

Sourdough- Palmer was horrible last year and we still beat the Ravens. So saying that since Palmer hasn’t been the same doesn’t justify them being able to beat us. He put together some masterful plays to beat the Ravens (with a little help from the murderer in the Ravens’ backfield. LOL)

  24. ppdoc13 says: Jun 17, 2010 12:53 PM

@whodeysood5 – you talk a great game of trash and you guys love telling us how we got swept last year, but tell Sherlock how many playoff games is it that Carson and Marvin have won?
Yes that is right. The number would be zero. Oh and how many Superbowls have the Bengals won? Yes that is right. The number would be zero.
So until your California boy steps up his game and the Bungles stop pissing down their legs when it comes to the playoffs, I think you are better of S’ingTFU. Enjoy your team. Cheer for those stupid helmets. Hope you win enough to make the playoffs and be prepared to piss down your leg again when it really matters.

  25. BengalsDouche2 says: Jun 17, 2010 1:03 PM

dabarber- yeah they sure disappointed last year. making the playoffs when everyone expected them to fail miserably. that was a HUGE disappointment. lemme tell ya. what a dbag. I’m not expecting us to win more than 11 games but I can assure you we win the division again. The Ravens are HIGHLY overrated as they were last year and we’ll be glad to hand it to you again.

  26. steelersmichele says: Jun 17, 2010 1:21 PM

ochostinko–it should be Ravens: 2 (Lewis and Stallworth) HAHA
GROWNsimba, why don’t you do the same comparison with the Steelers. Mention SBs, AFC championships, win percentages, etc. Let me be clear (to use your own words), overall the Steelers franchise is better than the Ravens :)
But this past season, the Bengels were better than both of our teams. Come on, give credit where credit is due.

  27. Sensual Lettuce says: Jun 17, 2010 1:27 PM

The Bengals would be the bengals if the didn’t suck epically.

  28. Legend says: Jun 17, 2010 1:45 PM

Chad Johnson (I refuse to call him “ochocinco”) has no concept of leadership. He’s a big baby. He’s the reason they are so good at times and so awful at other times. I will lay a lot at the foot of a larger-than-life player like him, in success and failure. Until the team does anything of real consequence, he’s the one I’m blaming their mediocrity on.

  29. CurseofBoJackson says: Jun 17, 2010 2:08 PM

Glad this got posted, I love to see Raven’s fans get their panties in a bunch. Guys, all the talk in the world doesn’t change anything, you still got beat twice last year by such an “inferior franchise,” and didn’t make or win the superbowl, so squash all your insecure playoff wins and superbowl comparison garbage, it means nothing now.
Legend, really? Chad was responsible for Shank shanking a 30 yarder last year that would have kept us in the playoff game (tied it right?)? Chad was responsible for every other big Shank kick that inevitabely got missed at a crucial time? It was his fault the O-line SUCKED epically in 2008 and rendered Carson useless for the rest of the year? 2007 was his fault too? Did he hurt Ahmad Brooks that year? Did he sell Odell Thurman Meth? Just don’t follow bud.
“Hope you win enough to make the playoffs and be prepared to piss down your leg again when it really matters. ”
Like the Ravens did in the playoffs last year? Or like both times they got beat by Cincy? Did Ray Ray piss down his leg on the last drive after he saw Chad get right back up? Did that produce an epiphany about him beginning to wash ashore? 3 months dude, then what you have to say might mean something, but I wouldn’t necessarily give you that benefit of the doubt.

    GROWNsimba –
As a Bengals fan, you’re just spitting out stats, numbers and other trivia that the Who Dey Nation knows all too well. I am not going to debate that Newsome has done a better job than Mike Brown and the Bengals of putting together a better team from 2000-2010. However, I’d also argue two other points that you omitted:
1.) Carson Palmer as a starter against the Ravens is 7-4. That is an impressive statistic for a division rival with the Defense that Baltimore has had over the last decade.
2.) While the Ravens have put together a great team through the decade, I’d argue that the Bengals from 2006-2009 have built solidly through the draft and free agency, and have out-done the Ravens in this area, particularly in the 2009 and 2010 offseasons, where they’ve addressed literally EVERY perceived roster weakness.
The AFC North will come down to the Ravens and the Bengals. As I look down the rosters, they are very even, but I think there’s an edge to the Bengals because of their youth (NOT to be mistaken for inexperience) and depth at each position group. I don’t know that the Bengals will sweep the North again (they definitely COULD, but it will be difficult), but to disregard the Bengals as a legitimate playoff team and a strong possibility to win the division in downright foolish.

With that logic we can say the Raiders are going to have a killer defense next year because Howie Long played for them.. We can also assume that the Brown’s will have the best running back attack because Jim Brown played for them… The Bears will demand respect because they had Walter Payton… The Steeler’s will win the Superbowl…Well… Because they’ve won more than anyone else… Not a very logical way of assessing how good a team will be now buddy get over yourself and your team..

  32. JohnnyU says: Jun 18, 2010 11:02 AM

Correction Ocho – that would be 2 murders in Ravensville – not 1. The other is a WR.
One thing is certain about the preseason power ranking. They are always wrong.
