Trent Williams fires Eugene Parker

We received a tip recently that Redskins tackle Trent Williams, the fourth overall pick in the 2010 draft, had fired agent Eugene Parker.  But we weren’t able to confirm it.  And in lieu of simply reporting the information in paragraph 7, we opted to wait for further developments.

Kelli Johnson of Comcast Sportsnet reports that Williams has indeed parted ways with Parker.  Williams told Johnson that the player and Parker “weren’t a good fit.”

Though the move could be viewed as an impediment to Williams being signed before training camp opens, the reality is that 17 of 18 first-round picks represented by Parker have not agreed to terms before training camp opened.

The second half of the tip we received is that Williams’ likely will sign with Ben Dogra of CAA.  Another source said that Kelli Masters could be part of the representation team.  “She is all over the OU program and somehow got Gerald McCoy to agree to
let her co-represent him along with Dogra,” said the source.  “To say she has been
aggressively recruiting OU players would be an understatement.”

That said, there’s no evidence that Dogra, Masters, or anyone else recruited Williams before he decided to part ways with Parker.  Under NFLPA rules, he cannot hire a new agent until five days after terminating Parker.

If CAA ultimately lands Williams, the firm will have three of the top four picks from the 2010 draft.

The Redskins and Eugene Parker do not get along. This is all from Lavar Arrington contract dispute and subsequently Parker losing his license. I have a feeling the skins let it be known they would not negotiate with him. I also believe there is not a single player on the team represented by Parkers agency, though I could be wrong.

A Jim Sorgi and Trent Williams article all in the same day. I’m going to go make some popcorn and be back in time for the Kellen Clemens article.

Haha. I guess Trent Williams is not the guy that plays/played QB for the Bills.

This is awesome because Parker is an idiot – he doesn’t seem to take the client’s best interests in mind.
Hopefully more of his clients and prospects start to realize this.

Why would it make a difference? Doesn’t he still have Suh as a client, and everybody will wait til his deal is done, however long it takes, so they can slot in their player behind that contract?
We’ll see if the whole top of the draft class is held up as a result and everybody reports very late to training camp in the likely last year before a rookie salary cap will make drawn-out negotiations unnecessary.

Remember Champ Bailey’s comment to his agent? In effect, it went like this: “Quit screwing around and get me a contract to sign. I’m NOT holding out, and I want to play.”
Maybe Trent feels the same way!
