Commish will attend Packers' shareholders meeting

At the 2010 NFL draft, we were impressed by the manner in which Commissioner Roger Goodell worked the room, holding court with many fans from the perspective, fundamentally, of a fan.

He’ll continue that effort next month when he personally attends the Packers’ annual shareholders meeting in Green Bay.

Goodell will answer questions from shareholders at the end of the July 29 meeting.  Whether his comments will be on or off the record remains to be seen.

Considering his plans for the league, he’d probably try to give us back to the Brits.

    Yep.

I wish I could attend (these meetings are open to the shareholders), I would ask why the Commish looked the other way when the Packers had cell records indicating that Col Klink was having phone sex with the Gray bearded Lady.

Maybe Goodell can answer this question from the Stockholders: Why does Ted Thompson suck so much at life?

    did you mean to say
    “when he personally attends”
    or
    “when he will personally attend”
    wtf has happened to journalism?

A common but undiscussed problem in Minnesota is that many parents suffer from AllDay-itus, and as a result many little Gophers like RC IV are dropped on their heads over and over as infants. While this does serve to round off to some degree the pointed craniums common to children in that state, in later years the unfortunate side effects manifest themselves. Victims sometimes cheer for grown men dressed in lavender (only if they are winning, of course) and also elect some of the strangest and looniest people they can find to govern and lesislate for them. There is little hope for a cure.

The Green Bay Packers annual Stockholders meeting is one of the best things in all sport.
It is always a good thing when you talk with Ted Thompson, get some inside information, and encourage him by telling him what an outstnding job he is doing.
The fans who own stock determine the direction of the franchise and hold management accountable.
With other teams a single owner like Art Modell, Al Davis, or Zygi Wilf can move the franchise and there is nothing to stop them.
In Green Bay there is great communication and expectations. No other team is so open and honest.

Sorry Rog but you cant get your fix of codeine laced jungle juice now that Jolley may be a long term resident of Texas. However, if you’re looking for some action, Underwood will be more than happy to show you around town. Careful not to catch a stray bullet or two at the shareholder meeting, theyve been known to fly around Lambeau lately. Enjoy your stay and remember to bring your passport so you leave Green Bay.

  13. purpleguy says: Jun 18, 2010 5:14 PM

Goodell simply wants to attend because he heard the meeting has the simultaneous purpose of both rubber stamping Board decisions and attempting to set the Guiness Book of World records for the most polyester worn in one group meeting.

I bet Goodell is gonna give TT an ultimatum about being so cheap and refusing to add players via free agency or the draft. It’s disgraceful really, TT is in like his 6th season running the Packers and he’s barely over .500 and sitting on a total of 1 playoff win yet he refuses to try to be more competitive cause he’s such a tightwad. Goodell will probly also warn him about being more discreet with his “lifestyle” choices, Green Bay is a small town and people are starting to talk about Ted’s hot tub parties with the boys.

  15. Bordner says: Jun 18, 2010 5:41 PM

What the hell. Before anyone else says it…
He’ll use this opportunity to announce the new NFL alignment, shifting St. Louis to the NFC North and the Queens to the NFC West after confirming their move to L.A.
    Viva Las Reinas!!!!

Funny–I go to a Vikes thread and the fist 10-20 posts are laced with Packer fans throwing insults, go to a Packer thread and it’s the exact opposite. Then of course there are the usual homers who are first to either one of them.

  17. PackFansLikeSheep says: Jun 18, 2010 5:47 PM

That should read “refusing to add players via free agency or trades”. He does draft players because he has to but he keeps drafting 1st round busts like Harrell, Hawk, Raji etc.

Maybe in Sconnie it is. Its the only time in Green Bay people are not driving their tractors drunk as a skunk in the cornfields.
The only reason Goddell is going to the meeting is to make sure the shareholders dont sell te majority to the team for a case of High Life, and to receive his yearly BJ from Teddy.

    @ PFLS
You didn’t need to correct your first post. Everybody knows it’s you Contra and everyone knows you’re a hopeless homer–and the ones that even bother to read your posts usually get a good chuckle. Just like I did when I read your first one. I said “yep, that’s Contra alright”.
The really good part is that now that I’ve got that figured out I can skip over your posts just like I do when I see you posting as Contra.
BTW, haven’t paid much attention to your rants so don’t know if you mentioned where you live but if you live in MN I’m assuming you weren’t affected by the tornados. I’m glad for you.

I’m not actually a Packers fan but I am dedicated to helping restore the franchise to its former goodness so that its fans can become productive members again, but to do this we must first depose Ted Thompson. He is just a horrible g.m. and there’s no room in the NFL for albinos.

There is only one JimmyS here. There are 5 or 6 queens fans who post on every pack thread. Are they all closet fans of the Green and Gold? I swear there is something about the metrodome that sucks IQ points from the heads of its patrons.

First order of business…figure out why in the hell all those morons like wearing fake cheese on their heads.
Can one of you annoying, blow-hard packer fans please explain that to the rest of us non-cheeseheads???

  26. mission says: Jun 18, 2010 9:01 PM

PFLS – Who would you suggest the Packers hired to replace TT?
    Give me a couple names who’re available…

  27. TheVerve says: Jun 18, 2010 9:04 PM

Second order of business…renaming the Lomardi trophy. Roger would like to rename the trophy to something that embodies REAL winning and tradition. Not the kind that’s 40+ years old that all Packer fans are desperately clinging to and nobody else cares about.

  28. PackFansLikeSheep says: Jun 18, 2010 10:30 PM

mission, I don’t know who best available GM would be but the Packers should try making an offer to someone like Tony Dungy or the assistant to any really successful GM. Just try to find someone who can evaluate college talent, is willing to use all 3 methods available to acquire talent and isn’t incredibly cheap and a lifetime bachelor albino. Trust me, you’ll have better results than you’ve had with Thompson (about .500 and 1 playoff win after 5 years).

  29. mission says: Jun 18, 2010 10:34 PM

Ya Verve – They should change it to the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrotrophy.
    Talk about tradition!!

  31. Ambrose says: Jun 19, 2010 7:53 AM

From what I understand, DeMaurice Smith of the Players Union will be there too, giving the other side of the story. It is no accident that the two most important people in the negotiations have chosen not only the best venue in all of pro football to speak on this subject, they will be speaking in front of the most knowledgeable and professional fanbase as well.
And the immediate reactions to this comment from the (usual) Viking “fans” (that will be certain to include the same ol’ repetitive insults, every one of which could be exactly mirrored in Minnesota,) will be summarily ignored, as always. Your stuff just isn’t original enough to be entertaining, even in a casual manner. It is all yawn inducing and grade school level. It is easy to recognize your bitterness, frustration, and jealousy for what it is….but thanks for playing anyway.

    ————————————————————-
Well, it (expectedly) got is roots in the fact that some people call people living in Wisconsin cheeseheads. And attempts to create some means by which to insult and deride those residents (initiated by poorly educated people from elsewhere,) by the use of that nickname as though it were a bad thing, resulted in those same residents wearing the hats in a kind of “FU if you can’t take a joke.” Get it now?

  33. footballrulz says: Jun 19, 2010 10:50 AM

    Ambrose,
I was going to post something about winning traditions, historical value, ask why people who wore blond wigs and horns had such problems with a little cheesehead, etc. I was.
But you pretty much summed up the reasons not to in that last paragraph.
PFLS–give it up bud. I know better.

  34. TheVerve says: Jun 19, 2010 7:08 PM

    Ambrose,
Got it. You guys think it makes you cool to intentionally wear cheese on your head.
And you think only LESSER educated people wouldn’t do such a thing. So lots of PhD’s are wearing cheese on their heads in Green Bay?
And the only “tradition” I know of that comes with cheese belongs to those Surrender Monkeys in France.
But thanks for clearing that up.
