NFL.com transactions page typo likely will flood the league office with waiver requests

So earlier today the Bengals cut several players.  One of them was cornerback DeAngelo Willingham.

And at some point in the transfer of information from Cincinnati to New York City to the folks who run NFL.com, Bengals cornerback DeAngelo Willingham became Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams.

Uh oh.

It’s a harmless and understandable mistake (we say that in part because we make plenty of our own), which apparently came not from NFL.com but from STATS LLC.  Still, as of this posting the official word on the NFL.com transactions page is Williams has been cut by the Panthers.

Look for 31 teams to make a waiver claim, just in case.

  1. I, personally, would like to submit a request to calim DeAngelo Williams on waivers. With a 2009 record of 0 wins my claim should take priority. It’s right there in black and white; send him to me; he’s mine.
I hope to trade him for either a soft-top Jeep or use of a beach house for a month or so.

  2. This is probably Mike Brown’s fault… I don’t think he’s figured out how to spell correctly or use this new thing call a fax machine…

He’ll be a good backup for Mendenhall.
    GO STEELERS!

    Really? Mendenhall?
I give you credit for team loyalty man. I wish I was so loyal it would distort reality.

  4. @ the real shuxion
If you haven’t noticed by Steeler fan posts on this website in particular and what I can assume would be face to face interactions you have had with Steeler fans, there aren’t may Steeler fans with a clear view of what reality really is. They think bright yellow is gold for christs sake.

  5. Whenever Greg Olsen is mentioned in sports news, I have to ask myself if it’s TE Greg Olsen, OC Greg Olson, former catcher Greg Olson, or former pitcher Greg Olson. I think there’s even a 5th G.O. in sports. Hey Olsons (& Olsens)! IT’S TIME TO RETIRE GREGORY AS A NAME. I don’t care if it’s grandpa’s middle name.

  6. Whats sad is that they still havent updated it. Maybe Rosenthal is doubling as their editor

  7. Unfortunately for the NFL, they seem to be forgetting about one major and binding legal principle: No takebacks.

  8. Are you sure he’s subject to waivers? He’s got 4 pension credited seasons; waivers shouldn’t apply to him this time of year unless something changed because of the uncapped year, not sure?

  9. Since when did teams get the ability like the Bengals to cut other team’s players??? Is the union aware of this new rule that was just slid in?
I likey!! Dear Holmgren, please cut Tom Brady and make a claim…

I’m not a Redskins fan, but damn that’s a good handle you got. Nice work!

Only if you manage to claim him, too. The Bengals waived Rashard Mendenhall today as well as DeAngelo Williams.

  12. Typos and mistakes are funny on someone else’s website, but here they are just par for the course.
