Saints announce Brown trade, compensation tied to McNabb

The New Orleans Saints have officially announced that offensive tackle Jammal Brown has signed his tender offer and that the Saints have agreed to trade Brown to the Washington Redskins.

Meanwhile, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the complex trade terms are tied to the Redskins’ previous trade with the Philadelphia Eagles for Donovan McNabb.

The Redskins will send either their third-round pick or their fourth-round pick to Philly in 2011 to finalize the McNabb trade, based on whether certain triggers are met in 2010. Whichever of those picks the Redskins don’t send to the Eagles, they’ll send to the Saints. In return, the Saints will send the Redskins either their 2011 fifth-round pick (if they get the Redskins’ third-round pick) or their 2011 sixth- or seventh-round pick (if they get the Redskins’ fourth-round pick).

There’s also a chance of a 2012 sixth-round pick coming into play, if Brown plays 90 percent of the snaps or makes the Pro Bowl.

But the bottom line is that Brown will play in 2010 for the Redskins, and the Redskins moved down a couple rounds in the draft to acquire him.

Well the Skins need a few more offsides penalties.

I will have to trust Saints fans comments on this but it seems stupid to send away a linemen for moving up in the draft. But like I said, I will see what Saints fans say about this.

I think we should have gotten more for Brown.

    Horrible trade for the Saints.

So the Skins gave up nothing big to get JB!
How sad is this….Everyone the Redskins have signed or drafted this off-season won’t equal Albert Haynesworth 32Mil.
You can say whatever you want about the Redskins…this is not the same franchise run by Vinny and Sydner. Smart Football people are running the show!

Those Redskins are gonna be real solid. McNabb is officially protected.

This is the perfect example of the increasing lawyer clusterfudge in the NFL. We’ve devolved to a point where the agents’/lawyers’ inside stories and dealings outweigh everything else. Of course, Florio will think this is great. But c’mon. The NFL has gone to hell, now that the intricacies of contracts related to lawyer payoffs in a poker-like system outweighs the players and their worth on the market. It would be great if Florio led the charge against all this “insider-trading” BS, but he will keep acting like it is players v management. No, Florio, no. Attorneys run the show. Sick. Disgusting.

this is actually one of the better moves i have seen Dan Snyder make.

  9. DARKTHRONE says: Jun 19, 2010 6:43 PM

In a perfect world, a healthy-hipped Jammal Brown would be perfect trade bait for an inexpensive, even-keeled, locker room friendly, “team player” like Albert H.
But it’s damn-near 6:30 pm, I’m still hungover and the real world is blatantly kicking my ass.
    See you JB.
Hey Redskins fans: you’ve got a good player here, but I hope you don’t mind a couple of back-to-back “False start!” calls every other game.
    Once again, seeeee you JB.

Is anything going on with he Saints’ left tackle? Haven’t heard much lately. I think his name is Jamal Brown.

Now you need a scoreboard for a measly trade.

  12. cowboyssuck says: Jun 19, 2010 6:49 PM

C’mon, Saints. Please reconsider the terms. Doesn’t Fat Albert excite you? We’ll give you our 1st round pick if you’ll take him off our hands.
    Sincerely,
Daniel “Napolean Complex (What was I thinking when I dd this?)” Snyder

This is a steal for the Redskins, Brown isn’t someone else’s trash (ie. Jason Taylor and all their Running Back’s) he’s a player who’s in the prime of his career. Granted he’s coming over season ending surgery but hie’s only expendable because the Saints hit on the Bushrod and that’s the economics of the NFL.

  15. JOldewurtel says: Jun 19, 2010 7:08 PM

    Wait… so this could be…
Jamal Brown and a 6th to the Redskins for a 4th???
    WHAT!!!
The league is starting to get crazy with overvaluing draft picks.
If the Redskins end up with the 24th pick in the draft since they are now a playoff threat… and the Saints go deep in the playoffs, the Redskins basically got Jamaal Brown for the 8th pick in Rd. 5
    Last 10 Rd. 5 Pick 8 selections:
    2010 FB John Conner Jets
    2009 WR Jarrett Dillard Jaguars
    2008 CB Orlando Scandrick Cowboys
    2007 CB David Jones Saints
    2006 OT Jonathan Scott Lions
    2005 TE Jerome Collins Rams
    2004 LB Alex Lewis Lions
    2003 WR Justin Gage Bears
    2002 LB Scott Fujita Chiefs
    2001 LB Zeke Moreno Chargers
    Yeahhhhh…

I love the fact the Saints got rid of Jamal Brown, but they definitely should’ve tried to get more for him. I would’ve much rather trade him for another player instead of a pick, but we’ve been doing pretty well in recent drafts. Hopefully we’ll take the extra money and bring in a free agent. I wouldn’t mind seeing Keith Bulluck in a Saints uniform. I couldn’t believe Jamal Brown was whining about his contract though. They won the Super Bowl with him on the bench. He’s a Pro Bowl caliber player, yet he’s injury prone and always seems to false start. I wish him the best in Washington. Let’s see what the Saints do next….

why do people think Snyder has had anything to do with the moves made this offseason?

  20. BigEasy says: Jun 19, 2010 7:23 PM

He needed to go…too much depth (young talent) on the o-line. The picks suck, but, whatever! Who Dat! Two Dat!

“Brown isn’t someone else’s trash (ie. Jason Taylor”
    @MaximaWSE,
You might want to check and see what Taylor did last year before making an ass of yourself with a statement like that. He had 42 tackles, 7 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and an interception. Better than many players far younger than himself.

  22. ben6969 says: Jun 19, 2010 7:25 PM

The Redskins will regret this move early. He has like 3 false start penalties a game, his pass blocking is very skeptical, and his run blocking is really bad a t times. The only reason he made the pro bowl is because he plays with Drew Brees, which gets rid of the ball quicker than anyone else in the league.

  23. GaryClark says: Jun 19, 2010 7:35 PM

Thank god we can now get rid of that horrible tackle Stephon Heyer. He is the worst player on the team. Peace! HAIL! F HAYNESWORTH! RIP #21.

Redskins taking other teams players that aren’t wanted…sound familiar? Can’t draft well and will keep losing.

  26. Big J says: Jun 19, 2010 7:46 PM

Seems like a good trade for the skins. They seem to be moving foward. The only problem is there’s this big, huge turd right the middle of the path they are taking. They seemed to have stepped in it and can’t get think stink of it off their shoes. It’s name is Albert Haynesworth. I don’t think anyone else cares to step in that big pile of crap.

  27. MagicMan407 says: Jun 19, 2010 7:49 PM

Not many haters on the trade. Good to see that for once.

I believe the skins will deal with Fat Al. I wish they were trading him to the Saints thats all. Dont get me wrong I enjoy watching the team from NoLa I am not hatin, but I am a skins fan and just wish some team would take him. The Arena League would be nice. Good riddance fatty.

  32. mwcarolina says: Jun 19, 2010 9:25 PM

good deal here, Jammal Brown will likely man the right tackle spot, but he could play left and Brown and Trent Williams makes these tackles WAY better from last years starters after Samuels got hurt.

  35. clintcooper says: Jun 19, 2010 9:57 PM

As a Saints fan this is fine with me. Jammal is egotistical and self-important and the Saints got through the playoffs and won the Super Bowl without him.
Hey Jammal, don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya!

Jamal Brown is a 3-time Pro Bowler who was hurt all of last season……hardly a bust! I get what you are saying though!

  38. ppdoc13 says: Jun 19, 2010 10:59 PM

Not a bad move by the Foreskins which probably means it was Bruce Allen who made it rather than Napoleon Snyder. The ‘skins need all the help they can get on the OL. McNabb doesn’t move around like he once did. It will be very interesting for me to see how McNabb plays this year. Being a Ravens and Eagles fan thus having nothing but hate for the Deadskins, I am a little mixed in emotion. I have always liked McNabb. Thought he was a standup guy who was certainly in the top 10 QB’s in the league during much of his career. I just don’t see Shanny riding him to the Superbowl.

  39. SF Saints Fan says: Jun 20, 2010 12:46 AM

On the face of it the trade looks great for the Redskins and not so great for the Saints, but you have to think that the Saints shopped Brown to just about every other team and there were no takers, so maybe he is not worth as much to the General Managers who passed on him as he is to the fans?
The Saints went 13-3 and won the Super Bowl without him, so good luck in Washington.

  41. Rojo Johnson says: Jun 20, 2010 8:27 AM

Everyone was so high on us trading for Kendall a few years ago, and he was average at best. Everyone was high on us getting Haynesworth, and you know how that story turned out (4-12).
SF Saints fan is right: if he’s so good, why didn’t anyone else take him? It’s not like they have a salary cap to deal with.

The Washington Redskins have become a great oganization with Coach Shanahan, GM Bruce Allen and the aquiring of Jamal Brown is a tribute to the new regime in Washington wha has now made another excellent move to shore up the offensive line. They have put the league on notice that they will be a playoff team this year !!! Hail to the Redskins and my personal thanks to our owner who has made great decsions to make this all possible, we in Redskin nation salute your efforts to restore our proud team to the top of the NFL !!!

  45. clintcooper says: Jun 21, 2010 12:35 AM

I really hope the Redskins win their division this year. Shanahan just brings a whole new level of CLASS to the organization. I predict that the Redskins will, at a minimum, go 10-6.
