Webb's hands are 11 inches long which makes them only 5 inches shorter than the arms of the Packers 1st round pick OT Bulaga. Bulaga basically has hands sticking out of his shoulders, no way that guy will ever make it as a LT.
You're right PFLS, Bulaga with his 33 1/4 " arms will fail, just like Joe Thomas (32 1/2) and Jake Long (32 7/8) have struggled with their short arms.

A 6th round WR is their QB of the future?
It is possible . . . . given the time to develop.
I did some quick research and found the names of some other longshots from the past:
In the 2005 draft there was a guy named Derek Anderson taken in the 6th round and a guy named Matt Cassel in the 7th round.
Matt Bulger in the 6th round of the 2000 draft.
Matt Hasselbeck in the 6th round of the 1998 draft.
Going back farther, Trent Green in the 8th round; Brad Johnson in the 9th round, and Doug Flutie in the 11th round.
Were there a lot of busts down there. You betcha, but there are also a fair number of busts in the 1st round.
So, who knows . . . WR or QB . . . . . keep around and see.

Sage is more or less a stop-gap, a career backup. But Tavaris can't be the QB of the future? I thought he played pretty good down the stretch in 08, just played poorly in his playoff debut. Seems like a good kid with a lot of upside. But then the fancy new savior rolls in and he has no future? It's some other new toy?
No wonder no one has any respect for the Vikings or the state of Minnesota. No substance, no heart, no loyalty, no honor, no identity. If it looks nice and makes them appear classy, they'll take it every time.

I'm not quite sure why some of you think his draft position has anything to do with his ability to play QB at an elite level (in the future). I'll assume that many of you don't know much about football, yes I'm talking to you JimmySmith. But there have been many elite franchise QB's who were later round picks/undrafted like Tom Brady, Jake Delhomme (before he fell apart two seasons ago) Tony Romo, Kurt Warner and Warren Moon, while many first round picks have been anything but that; Tim Couch, Akili Smith, JaMarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf. So to say "When was he drafted?" or "He's gonna suck, he's a 6th rounder." Makes about as much sense as JimmySmith constantly using homo-erotic undertones... on second thought, in his case, that makes a lot of sense. What the entire article forgets to mention is that Childress can't or has yet to develop a single QB and with BrINT coming back to add to his NFL record of 30 INT's in the playoffs, Childress avoids anyone pointing that out (again)

Even though I am no fan of Childress, I must again take a second to point out your lack of NFL knowledge. It is easy, since you do expose that lack in every posting you make. Childress was the QB coach for the Eagles when McNabb was drafted. He was the QB coach and/or offensive coordinator for the first 5 or 6 years or McNabb's career. He is credited by most with McNabb's successful development as an NFL QB. Even McNabb credits Childress for most of his success. But, like always, any NFL knowledge, other than blind Packer sheepdom or Viking trolling, is totally lost on you.

Seems like the 2010 Vikings draft gets better and better every month. Just wait for the season when Griffen takes over Ray Edwards spot, Toby Gerhart rushes for 1,000 yards, and Joe Webb is ready in a year or two to take over and defend our Super Bowl crown.
And as for you Ambrose you jealous Packer loser, upset because Brett didn't nuzzle Aaron's crutch, Brett has already worked with Joe Webb and likes him as a QB. he just doesn't waste his time on classless cocky punks like Aaron Rodgers who taunt in the end zone (what QB's do that? He's like the Ochocinco of QB's) waste their time calling out reporters who said bad things about him, or cyring about five year olds who curse at him. He's too weak mentally.

Stetai, STETI, WAKE UP.. Come on now, wake up. There, there, now, calm down,. It was only a dream, there now wipe that tear away.
I'm sorry I had to wake you but you seemed to be having a pretty bad dream--you were talking in your sleep--something about defending our Super Bowl crown. I know, I know, it's OK. You might be lucky enough to actually get one some day.
Oh and you also were talking out of your head--something about Favre teaching Webb and liking him as a QB. Yeah, I know, I know., Favre would actually have to be AT CAMP to teach him, but come on now, wipe those tears.. It was only a bad dream.
You were right about one thing though, Favre didn't nuzzle Aaron's crutch. But you see, after Aaron had that little injury he didn't stay on those cructhes long enough for Brett to nuzzle them. Nope, you see he had learned from Brett that you just man up, take your lumps and go on. So, no real need for crutch nuzzling. You see, little Brett decided a long time ago that he didn;t need to help nurture QB's. See, he'll gladly help receivers learn their routes because that's how they learn to catch his passes but he's certainly not going to help someone who might replace him some day. He's going to be here forever. Hey now, calm down, get your hands off of little stetai. I know that makes you feel all warm & fuzzy but even Lord Brett has to quit one day.
There, there now, quit crying, it was only a dream....a very, very, foolish dream.
Man you crack me up..

what everyone has seemed to miss is the fact that Childress has moved Webb up the depth chart to third, ahead of Sage. Just last year the Vikings gave up a draft choice at a round higher than the one Webb was drafted in to get their future starting QB (Sage Rosencoptor), or so they inferred at the time.
Point being is that Childress is famous for throwing his players under the bus and Sage is just the latest example. The Vikings can't get anything in return for him because nobody will trade knowing his sorry ass will be available on the waiver wire in a short time. What the entire article forgets to mention is that Childress can't or has yet to develop a single QB and with BrINT coming back to add to his NFL record of 30 INT's in the playoffs, Childress avoids anyone pointing that out (again)

stetai-
I seem to remember a Vikings quarterback who used to do the "roll" in the end zone, as well as after throwing a touchdown. Does that ring any taunting bells? And yes, Rodgers is arrogant and cocky, but he's also in camp helping his team. What's Favre up to? Not in camp helping Joe Webb learn how to be a QB in the NFL.

I’m not sure what that means but it does make me feel better. Here I go. Ha Ha T Jack Off!

here's an excerpt....

he was out there working as a receiver, and coach [Brad] Childress said, 'Let's just throw him and throw some 1-on-1 drills and see what kind of arm he has.' And he was very impressive that one day we put him out."
So as a result, instead of being a receiver, Webb became a quarterback.
"We decided to go ahead and move him and let's take a look at him through these OTAs and this minicamp to see if he can potentially be a quarterback, as well," Spielman said. Webb was been outstanding in all of the minicamps.

they didn't just say here he is our number 3 qb based on a couple of throws. they methodically looked at the kid through out OTAs and Minicamp where he's been outstanding.
it was not big hands = good QB.
it was big hands try him out as receiver. hey he catches the ball good and he's athletic. hey, let's throw him a bit. (he was a good qb in college) wow he does have good arm strength. hmmmm lets take a good look at him in OTAs and Minicamp. wow he's doing pretty good. I want to see more of him at Training Camp.
wow it actually sounds like they are doing a pretty good job.
Hats off coaches.

everyone keeps harping on the logical expression big hands ==> Great Football player. the article didn't say that. it stated he had good stats in college.
Because of the hand size everyone in the NFL pegged him as a receiver. he was moved over to QB after what they saw of him when he threw the ball.... arm strength. He obviously impressed the coaches enough to put him (what appears to be 3rd)
and Jimmy (how old are you?) its not just a couple of throws... it was the throws along with his stats from college.
