Panthers won't go after Steve Smith's money

S. Smithcar4.jpgIn the end, it doesn’t really matter to the Panthers what type of flag football game Steve Smith played in when broke his arm.  The team won’t attempt to dig into his wallet.

Florio expected the Panthers to look the other way regarding Smith’s injury, and that’s exactly what they will do, according to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.  A Carolina official said they won’t pursue the issue.

My PFT boss may disagree, but it’s the smart play.  Smith won’t miss any regular season time and punishing him could ultimately cause more damage to the team.

Smith’s decision to play was unfortunate.  It also came from the same competitiveness that makes the receiver such a great player.  He wasn’t boozing or beating anyone down.

The most concerning part for the Panthers: Smith broke the same forearm for the second time in seven months.  If that happens during the regular season, the team’s top receiver will be . . . Brandon LaFell?

    For backs and WRs, flag football isn’t a whole lot more physical than pick-up basketball… and there are no rules about basketball… this is all part of Smith’s competitiveness and desire to remain in shape.

    Maybe the GM doesn’t want to be the third victim of a Steve Smith sucker punch

    Dumb, the man is hurting your team now. He should have to give back every dollar for every game he will miss.

    This T.O. to Carolina stuff is going to really start to pick up..

    I’m tempted to say something about how stupid and irresponsible this is, but Steve Smith would probably kick my ass.

  10. rjgreen3 says: Jun 22, 2010 7:59 PM

    @jibfest
    if you had read the article, you would’ve read that he won’t miss any games.

    Maybe what goes around finally does come around? Karma could be a bitch for this guy. Skillz, yes, big f’ing mouth, yes, thinks he’s hollier than thou, yes.
    Check yourself Smith before it’s too late. Does anyone think he’ll be playing flag football after his career is over? Yes. Why? He’s a fag.

  12. doe22us says: Jun 22, 2010 7:59 PM

    Yeah would you have him beating strippers, robbing Top Pot for donuts, or running someone over with his bentley

  13. GaryClark says: Jun 22, 2010 8:02 PM

    I have an idea….TO should go to Carolina….

  14. giantcatfanhouse says: Jun 22, 2010 8:07 PM

    In Charlotte, he was in more danger driving to the game, than he was playing in it.
    As a former attorney, and if Smith was his client, he’d be vehemently arguing it was an infraction, and not a felony, Smith committed. Therefore, no punishment should be meted out.
    Florio doesn’t like Smith. So, like I commented on the other post he made about this, he makes it sound like Smith needs to be in a cell next to Burress, even though all Smith had was a flag in his waistband and not a gun.

    TO will not be going to Carolina.
    Not John Fox’s type of personality player.

  16. Meat Tuperello says: Jun 22, 2010 8:42 PM

    Yeah only a dumb ass would say go after his money in this case.

    man it would suck to have to cover smitty in a flag football game…

  19. TEXANDYNASTY says: Jun 22, 2010 9:52 PM

    David Gettis, rookie WR out of Baylor will beat out Jarrett and Lafell.

  20. Vaxman says: Jun 22, 2010 10:20 PM

    Weak… Carolina’s afraid of Steve smith blowing up in Carolina, but when it’s all said and done, that D bag hasn’t done much for Carolina recently, and last I checked the vast majority of ints that delhomo threw were intended for Steve smith, cuz he was crying for attention

  21. WingT says: Jun 22, 2010 10:28 PM

    The Panthers aren’t stupid. They know how to treat the player.
    Sounds like Steve Smith probably would have broken that arm eventually anyway – better now thn in the middle of camp.

  22. Martin Keamy says: Jun 22, 2010 10:51 PM

    Pantherfan 10….Wing T…
    Thank you for being intelligent.
    The rest of you stop being such Fox News’s.

  23. SATAN says: Jun 22, 2010 11:25 PM

    @giantcatfanhouse
    Florio hates all football teams, owners, league officials, NFL journalists and players equally.

    Steve Smith is a true Baller.

  26. jibfest says: Jun 23, 2010 1:04 AM

    Rg, fair point. I always read the article, but in this instance my disdain for Steve Smith stepped in front.

  27. robert ethen says: Jun 23, 2010 2:09 AM

    Pretty soon his arms will be bent and deformed. Like an alligators.

    Armanti Edwards

  29. kurtismantronik says: Jun 23, 2010 5:57 AM

    Good thing Florio doesn’t own an NFL team. He has the makings of a present-day Al Davis with a law degree.

  30. Vaxman says: Jun 23, 2010 6:52 AM

    Wing T… The panthers knew he would break his arm anyways??? You are retarded…. You must be high

  31. WingT says: Jun 23, 2010 9:03 AM

    @Vaxman
    I didn’t say that he Panthers knew he would break his arm…I was trying to point out that the arm , obviously hadn’t healed properly from the last break.
    I don’t consider myself retarded, but I guess that would depend on ones’ definition . :)
