Willie Anderson wants to return to the NFL

After 13 seasons in the NFL, tackle Willie Anderson needed to let his body recover.

Now he wants back into the league.

ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli writes that Anderson hopes to get a job playing once again.  If that doesn’t work out, he wants to mentor young players in some capacity.

“There’s no [camouflaging] that I would like to play again,” Anderson said.  “But if not, I
feel I owe it to the game and to players to help them prepare for
things.”

There were hints that the 34-year-old wanted to return, but now he’s made it clear.

Anderson may not wind up in anyone’s training camp, but he would hardly be the youngest backup tackle in the league.  We suspect he’ll get a call at some point when a young starter goes down to injury.

Guy is a class act. I’m sure he’ll make a fine coach for someone.

Willie was great in Cincy and will be missed, although it was a shock to most of us that he was released it was probably time as shown by the line play over the last two years.
He started all 3 post-season games for Baltimore which says alot.
I think he will probably catch on somewhere although his future in Fatburger is rock solid: http://www.fatburger.com/home/

    Skins will sign him.

I wouldn’t mind having him back for one last go-round. He can mentor Andre Smith. Really, he’s gotta be better than Anthony Collins or whoever the backup RT is right now. Plus he can retire a bengal. Thats the way it should be.

this guy’s a STUD. only ray of light in a dismal bengals franchise for nearly a decade; he was more than a bengal fan could ever want. i was sad to see him leave, and even sadder to see him go to a division rival, but this dude is seriously first ballot hall material. unfortunately playing in the shadows of jonathon ogden (and reminding me of another cincinnati athlete stuck in the shadow of a hall of famer- barry larkin to ozzie guillen) he will have to fight to get a position in the hall with fellow bengal great anthony munoz. i feel he was a more consistent player than ogden myself and ogden’s last few years tainted his legacy while big willie was able to play at a pretty high level into his twilight. good luck to this man, if he doesn’t get another shot on the field i say we get him a 1 day retirement contract, name a cincinnati street after him, and hook him up under paul alexander as an assistant o-line coach or scout (yeah right, mike brown hire a scout?)
    thanks for everything, big willie.
p.s. all this writing makes me wanna drive to oakley and mow down a fatburger

He was a good guy while he was here in Bmore. I hope he lands on his feet.

The Bills would be wise to give him a look. They are desperate for help at tackle and guard and Anderson would be a great mentor to the young offensive linemen on the roster even if he doesn’t start.

I was thinking the same thing as I re-read that sentence trying to figure out what the hell it meant…

I gave it a second glance, as well. This is the second time in the past 30 minutes something like this has happened. The other one was a news article that referred to Barack Obama as Barack Abeam.

If Willie is in decent shape, some team that is in need of tackle depth, or maybe a guy to compete with others like Doug Free for example, then he is worth a flyer. Solid player, solid person

He still has gas in the tank !

  14. BengalsDouche2 says: Jun 23, 2010 8:32 AM

Yeah I’d love to have this guy back as a Bengal to be a mentor and a solid backup for us. Can’t really rely on Andre Smith to start every game just yet. He should definitely retire a Bengal. I’d love for this to happen.

I hear there is an opening on a flag football team. Imagine lining up against that guy in your Sunday afternoon league.

Notice Flobee-o didn’t preface the article with “former Bengal Willie Anderson.” That doesn’t generate the hits like “Former Bengal Corey Dillon Arrested for DUI” does it you sniveling little d-bag?
That said, i don’t know who would go on the O line to make room for Willie, but I would love to have him back, one of a VERY few jerseys worth having from a dark era, he was one of the greats, Ogden, Jones, same class of tackle.

i’m all up for him to back in the NFL, at least he isnt making noise like a certain “Favre” does with the two words of ” retirement” and “return”

Willie Anderson was a great player but definitley not better then Ogden – Ogden was a probowler start to finish
