I can’t believe my man TROY SMITH (the Truth) can’t get a chance at starting. I’m still leary about the whole viral infection when he was supposed to get the start his 2nd year in the preseason. I think its gonna rub some teammates the wrong way in the locker room. But this is how it is for some players. Hopefully somebody will give Troy a legitimate shot at starting. However it doesen’t seem likely.

Come on Stillerz?!? Not sold on Flacco?
I think the Organization wasn’t sold on ANY of the receivers besides Mason. He’s got some new toys in TE’s Pitta and Dickson, Anquan Boldin, and still has Rice and Mason as a safety blanket. Lets not forget about Heap too.
I have a feeling that Defenses are gonna have a tough time covering those men when they’re on the field. Its ‘pick your poison’ time.
As they say, it gets settled on the field, not on paper. Judging by how Flacco has done with average at best compliment of receivers for the past 2 years, this will be a defining year for him and he’ll be a top-tier QB in my opinion.

@Stillerz – whistling past the graveyard? what this tells me is that the Ravens think they have a real shot to win it all this year. They are totally sold on Flacco, but realize that few QB’s make it through every season without missing snaps or games. Flacco really could have sat down last year for a game or two after the Vikings game, but Troy Smith and John Beck weren’t the answer. Bulger has 2 ProBowls behind and knows how to win a game.
You go on believing what you want. The Ravens are stacked for this year. We will be playing in late January when you are watching TV.

I love listening to Bungal fans.. what exactly have they ever won? That’s right.. NOTHING. Steelers fans can say whatever they want, they have that right. But what the hell has Cincinatti won, other than the #1 pick in drafts.. and looking at the Bungals draft picks overall.. Big Daddy? Akili Smith? David Klinger? Ki-Jana Carter? This signing tells me 2 things:
1) The Ravens are not yet completely sold on Joe Flacco.
2) They have become aware that their defense is quickly aging and is no longer what it used to be. They need to win NOW and if Flacco goes down they need someone who can pick up and win this season.
People have been saying this for a while, maybe now Ravens fans will listen.

Flacco is a legit QB. Go ahead haters, give me all the reasons he sucks. Bottom line, he has a 23-14 career record as a starter (post-season is 3-2) and has had a marginal receiving corp for both of his seasons in the league. He was thrown into the starting role due to injuries and that has been the best thing to happen to the Ravens since the 2000 Super Bowl.
Some people think that if a QB doesn’t provide fantasy points, that he is no good. He has proven himself a winner with mediocre (besides Mason) receivers.
To the person who called him Joey Checkdown. I would be checking down too if I had Ray ‘YAC’ Rice in the backfield.
I am not going to crown the guy with a pro bowl or SB prediction, he has to earn that, but people sleep on what he has accomplished in only 2 years. You will not find too many others with these types of accomplishments in the history of the league.
Let’s be clear, Bulger is in B-more for insurance only. They believe they have a legitimate contender and are making moves to ensure that one injury doesn’t change that.

This was a move to backup Joe Flacco. Smith is gone. The reason he wasn’t traded is that NO ONE was even willing to give a 5th round pick for him. Beck is the pine grabber. Smith is see you later. Which is good because he is an asshole who is disrespected by the large majority of the lockerroom. His Heisman is worthless in the NFL.

Flacco posted QB ratings of 48.3 and 70.1 in 2 losses to the BUNGALS. The BUNGALS picked your QB off 4 times, sacked him 6 times, and held him to 1 TD in 2 games. I don’t think the BUNGALS are too worried about him this year. The Ravens trading for Bolden has them getting picked by all the media “experts” as a lock for the SB. But Bolden will be covered by either Leon Hall or JJoe when we see ya and I like that matchup personally.

Seriously, the franchise was buiilt around Flacco and based on his last two years this is the year he leads his team to the SB and himself to a Pro Bowl. With the NFL hype machine and the team the ravens have he’ll be in MVP conversations. If he gets hurt Bulger will be there to keep things rolling along.
By that time smitty will have crawled to cleveland to take then take a greyhound to akron so he can spend his days teaching gym

A real surprise! Bulger is a good addition to most teams. Perhaps, the Ravens will do the right thing and release Troy Smith now. Troy wouldn’t be the first quarterback to be marginalized in Baltimore. Chris Redman, anyone?
I know Bulger will be a backup but he may also fill in for Flacco at times. Flacco gets frustrated at times and then you see him on the sidelines yelling at his offensive coordinator. Bulger is a little cooler under fire. I’m not sayin’, I’m just sayin’.

Bulger has been physically and mentally beat up in Saint Louis for several years. This is a perfect gig for him-a chance to still be on an NFL roster, give his body and spirit a chance to heal, while still being able to make his Mercedes payments. After this season of drinking Gatorade and wearing a hoodie, he will be more physically able to showcase his skills and sell himself as a starter. However, given his age and limitations of his game, his full-time starter days may be over.
Bulger is a pure drop-back passer, who would have trouble outrunning a fire hydrant. He does not throw as well on the run, and needs a strong running game to fall back on. His skills are a good fit on a Ravens team that expects to run the ball quite a bit. This is a great move by the Ravens, even though the price tag is high. A team cannot afford NOT to have a high quality backup QB.
I predict that the Ravens will coast to the Division title, with a record of 11-5.

I like the moveT the NFL is all about competition at your position. All 3 QBs were put on notice today. No more time for development, it’s time to show and prove. BTW Troy Smith has the least to worry about in this scenario. His skill set is different that Flacco, Beck, and Bulger (no homo just in case). I think Beck has to be worried. His only asset is that he knows the offense and is a veteran presence for Flacco to learn from. And that “veteren presense” is what Bulger brings to the table.

This was a smart move. Flacco gets some vet guidance on the bench, and we don’t have to hear about Troy Smith whining for a trade anymore because his ass be be cut soon! And IF something does happen to Flacco, Bulger can step in and handle business, and for those who talk how terrible he is? Come on, dude had the worst O line and WRs the past 3+ years!
And Steelers/ Bungul fans: do not misconstrue this move. This is not Flacco’s job at risk. This is not trying to put the heat on him. This is merely guidance and assurance that if push comes to shove and Flacco goes down, we won’t miss a beat! Trust me, you will all be avoiding Ravens blogs like the plague after Flacco starts lighting all of your D’s up like a Christmas tree!!
