Percy Harvin won't have to go to the rookie symposium

Last year Vikings receiver Percy Harvin sat out the league’s annual rookie symposium with an illness, and there were reports that he’d be required to go to this year’s symposium to make up what he missed.

But with this year’s symposium coming up, Harvin has been excused.

An NFL spokesman told Judd Zulgad of the Star Tribune that the league will not require Harvin to attend the symposium because “he received the appropriate training during the season at the club level through the Vikings’ player development department.”

The four-day rookie symposium will begin Sunday.

I doubt Percy can even spell “symposium” let alone attend one.

  3. The Hogster says: Jun 23, 2010 5:16 PM

Yea – there’s a little clause stating that if you win AP Offensive Rookie of the Year – acting like a jacka$$ will be excused.

Maybe Vince Young needs to attend again. He won’t ever be able to play like a professional, but at least he could learn to act like one.

Good news for the pot dealers in Percy’s hometown, it will give him 4 extra days to toke up without having to leave the comforts of home.
What surprised me the most is that the Vikings even had a Player development department. What exactly do they teach? McKinnie could be certified on pipe wielding, T Jack Off could easily teach Ebonics or how not to speak the English language, Jared Allen on coon skinning, Peterson could give a seminar how to drive 55 and the William’s sisters could teach avoiding the consequences of the NFL substance abuse policy. Too bad Fred Smoot is gone; they need a course on recreational boating in the land of 10,000 lakes and zero Lombardi trophies.

  11. Pastabelly says: Jun 23, 2010 5:27 PM

Yup, it wouldn’t make much sense having him show up and then have them tell him what to expect during his rookie year. I guess that’s what they mean by “appropriate training”. What a joke that they would even suggest that he would have to make it up.

Why doesn’t Thompson ever draft ROY’s? All he ever does is refuse to spend a dime on free agents, draft 1st round busts like Harrell and Hawk, and keep sneaking into the shower with his players.

JimmySmith, the reason people think you’re such a tool is because you lack the ability to be funny despite all of your attempts. At least Percy is only smoking it, old Johnny Jolly doesn’t have enough sense to do that. The best part of your latest debacle on the boards is that you take shots at 4 Vikings, 3 of whom are pro bowlers, after you use the term “player development”. You truly are not smart or funny. “Recreational boating in the land of 10,000 lakes and zero Lombardi trophies”…..AY-OH! Jimmy, when are you going to take this hilarious act on the road, you could sell out VFW’s and bingo halls throughout Wisconsin.

Jsmith, do you ever get tired of sounding like a moron?
Do you not realize that the packers have just as many mush mouth ebonics speakers? That they have players in trouble for substance abuse issues? That they have players in trouble for sexual abuse? Drunk driving? Any of that ring a bell? Lets go farther back to when Chmura raped underage girls or Lofton got a bj in an elevator. I’ve got an uncle who’s a VERY famous packer from the icebowl days that everyone wants to see get in the HOF. Guess what? He was a lousy drunk who beat the shit out of my aunt and cousins for a decade!
Point is, lots of current and former packers are real pieces of work, so quit throwing stones from your glass house.

They just didn’t have room for Percy this year JimmySmith. Florio’s currently writing why, but rumor has it there just wasn’t enough space in the event schedule because Spencer Havner is giving a seminar on DUI, Johnny Jolly is giving a powerpoint for ‘other’ uses of codeine, Brandon Underwood is showing all the rookies where to find the cheapest hookers, and Justin Harrell is going to define the word ‘injury’ for everyone while Ted Thompson makes his case for not drafting the talented ones out of that group. And then for the final hour they’ll just read your retarded comments out loud for entertainment, should be quite an event.

    1) 02/22/2009 – Arrives at the NFL combine (TESTED POSITIVE FOR DRUGS AT JOB INTERVIEW) on drugs with full knowledge and prior warning he would be tested for drug abuse. Tests positive for marijuanna. Placed in NFL’s substance abuse program. The NFL is now spending extra resources monitoring the player.
    2) 5/1/2009 – missed rookie practice (MISSED FIRST DAY OF WORK) do to severe dehydration, cause unknown, called in sick.
    3) 06/29/2009 – Arrives at the NFL required rookie symposium (MISSES FIRST BUSINESS MEETING) and then tells medical personnel he is too ill to participate and is sent home.
    4) 06/30/09 – Harvin ordered to attend the 2010 rookie symposium. Like the kid that flunked first grade Percy has to attend next year.
    5) 07/31/09 – Harvin fails to report to Training Camp on time (DIDN’T SHOW UP FOR WORK).
    6) 08/04/09 – Harvin’s contract with the Vikings is disapproved by the NFL for rules violations (FAILS TO COMPLY WITH WORK RULES).
    7) 08/14/09 – Harvin is “hurt” (shoulder) and misses his first game, (MISSES FIRST PERFORMANCE AT WORK) the preseason opener.
    8) 09/24/09 – Harvin misses practices again with a mystery illness that the vikings refuse to discuss. (CONTINUES HAVING MONTHLY ABSENCES FROM WORK SINCE DRAFTED/HIRED)
    9) 10/14/09 – Harvin misses practice again (MISSED WORK). Speculation by Judd Zugland is a shoulder injury but no one really knows for sure and the vikings have said nothing officially.
    10) 10/29/09 – Harvin misses practice due to “illness” (MISSED WORK).
    11) 11/25/09 – Harvin misses practice again with unexplained illness (MISSED WORK).
    12) 12/7/09 to 12/12/09 Harvin misses a whole week of practice and stays away from team facilities for unexplained nonfootball reasons (MISSED WHOLE WEEK OF WORK).
    13) 12/14/09 – Harvin inactivated and misses a game. He is not missed and Brad Childress doesn’t care (MISSED WORK).
    14) 01/24/10 – Harvins fumbles causing turnover in vikings playoff loss (SCREWED UP AT WORK). Saints win George Halas trophy and eventually the Vince Lombardi Trophy. In 50 years of NFL football the vikings have no trophies.
    15) 06/23/10 – Viking reporter alleges there will be no consequences for missing NFL mandatory meeting.
The player may be a headache, in the NFL substance abuse program, but he is consistent.
Plus he had the good fortune of being hired by the most lenient franchise in the NFL.

JimmySmith honestly makes the same post every single time.
It just varies over what he insults. He either makes some sort of really disturbing homosexual slur towards Childress and/or brings up zero titles.
He’s a broken record, and he ALWAYS responds within the first 10 posts, giving credence to the idea that he indeed has no life.
The best part is, even his fellow Packer fans think he’s a joke.

You forgot the most important date: 1/6/2010, Harvin is named the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Also, your technical obsession of trying to make it sound like the Vikings never have won an NFC Championship game is retarded. They won THREE NFC Championships and won the LAST NFL Championship in 1967.
And stop calling the trophies by their real names. It doesn’t make you sound smart, you just sound like a tool, which you already are.
Respond you coward. You’re just like Jimmy Smith, you follow all Vikings stories with the same insults repeated over and over. And just like Jimmy, you have no life.
Are JimmySmith and Bob Nelson the posterboys for the Packers fanbase? Racist, homophobic, arrogant, obsessive, and sheltered? I certainly hope not!

REALLY? Funny….you’d think the NFL would have their stats correct. Paging through the list of NFL champions…I don’t see Minnesota ANYWHERE on that list.
I would say to be mindful of history before you let your digits hit the keyboard, but then again, Vikings fans never let something like the truth get in the way of them posting some drivel on here.
They seem to think the NFL universe was formed in 1960, and that the Vikings have won multiple championships since then.
Paul Allen: “I mean, you can take a knee, and try a 59 yard field goal. This is not Detroit man, its the Super Bowl.”

Sorry the kid is a D bag and if he played on my team I would say the same thing. He is so over rated put him in the 1 or 2 WR spot instead of just running drag patterns as the #3 WR and lets see how he does. He has such a small build he will be gone from football in 2 years…Hopefully.

  47. Kappy says: Jun 24, 2010 2:33 AM

All of this Vikings/Packers immature bickering is hilarious. One fact still remains, however… The Vikings have never won a Super Bowl title. The closest was because of bringing in a Packer’s great to lead them there. I’m not a packers fan & I think AP is a great player, but the Packers have a more storied franchise. Win a Super Bowl, then talk.

  48. JimmySmith says: Jun 24, 2010 9:17 AM

Kappy says: Win a Super Bowl, then talk.
Good luck with that, all the Viking fans do is talk and mostly about how this is the year. We remind them of the fact that no team comes close to choking like the Vikings (0-4 in Superbowls, 0-5 in the last five NFC championship games they appeared in) but they remain in their fantasy world that somehow a QB who has done nothing but choke for the last 10 years is now playing on the biggest choke team in the NFL and somehow that equates into a Superbowl Go figure.

He was dynamic from game one and finished as the best rookie in the NFL. Bob Nelson, your an idiot. What is the point of listing all those things when it had nothing to do with his play on the field. He smokes weed…So what, I gurantee you 30-40% of the players in the league do. You guys are the same people who said he would be a bust, even though he dominated the SEC for 3 years and got 2 rings. He has had migrane problems since high school in Virginia Beach, thats no secret. How bout you guys just give credit where its do, eat you humble pie, and realize he is one of the best playmakers in the league. That makes a ton of sense Kappy, if you’re a bandwagon fan. Anyone can root for a team with a “storied” franchise that was dominant 40 years ago. It’s real fans that follow and support a team regardless of whether they’ve won a Super Bowl… You think the Eagles, Panthers, Falcons, Browns, and Vikings fans can’t talk trash (just like every other team’s fans) because they haven’t won a Super Bowl? Who cares, it’s not about what happened in the past, I have no idea how being dominant in the 40’s effects how this seasons team performs, but perhaps you can enlighten me?
