Rams re-sign Atogwe

In the end, safety O.J. Atogwe realized the Rams really did want him more than any other team.

Concluding a process that started more than a year ago when the Rams first placed the franchise tag on Atogwe, St. Louis announced Wednesday they signed Atogwe to a multi-year deal. (UPDATE: Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports its for five years.)

Atogwe finally won his unrestricted free agency on June first and freedom proved overrated. No other team brought Atogwe in for a visit, probably because they knew they couldn’t match the aggressive offers St. Louis already made.

Terms of the deal aren’t known yet, but it’s believed Atogwe will receive more than $5 million-per-season. The above average safety’s return marks good news for a shaky Rams secondary.

The contract also gives Atogwe one heck of a reason to celebrate today, his 29th birthday.
