More than three weeks after O.J. Atogwe became an unrestricted free agent, Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo says the team is nearing a deal to keep Atogwe in St. Louis.
“We’re getting close,” Spagnuolo said in an appearance before business leaders and fans in St. Louis.
Atogwe became an unrestricted free agent when the Rams decided not to increase his tender offer to nearly $7 million on June 1. Since then there have been reports of several teams showing interest in him, but the Rams appear to be the most interested.
Atogwe has played his entire five-year career in St. Louis. Last season he started 12 games for the Rams.
