Seahawks could be inching closer toward a T.O. run

In March, the Seattle Seahawks brought in then-Broncos restricted free agent receiver Brandon Marshall for a visit.

Nothing ever materialized.

Now, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that, as suspected, the Seahawks are the team that called to inquire regarding the availability of Chargers restricted free agent receiver Vincent Jackson, before being politely told to piss off.

In both cases, the targeted receiver would have commanded significant trade compensation and expensive long-term deals.  So if the Seahawks are looking to boost their corps of pass-catchers, at some point it will make sense to obtain a guy who’ll cost nothing in draft picks — and far less in guaranteed money.

We’re referring, of course, to Terrell Owens.  If the Seahawks want to upgrade and if the guys who are the property of other teams aren’t available, it’s a no-brainer to pursue T.O., at some point.

Though Owens likely would prefer to play for a team that’s more likely to contend, he’s not exactly in a position to be choosy.

Actually, I think the Seahawks are holding a roster spot for Dwayne Jarrett. Owens didn’t attend USC.

  2. vjacksmyboy says: Jun 24, 2010 4:08 PM

They need some experience and swagger in Seattle . T.O. has both. Plus he and T.J. need each other to draw the double teams.

  3. City_Native says: Jun 24, 2010 4:08 PM

T.O. went to Tennessee-Chatanooga. This would go against the philosophy of the U.S.C-Hawks.

  4. City_Native says: Jun 24, 2010 4:10 PM

Will somebody tell the U.S.C-Hawks that its about the quality, not quantity, regarding a wide receiving corps.
    27 WR’s
    0 are good.

Exactly what the Hawks need another overpriced WR that is past his prime. It looks good on Owens to go from the Buffallo of the AFC to the Buffallo of the NFC. Hope Hawk fans enjoy their 4 wins.

now that warner is out,why cant the seahawks be a contender, its the nfcwest for cryin out loud

not sure if he would be much of an upgrade over houshmanzadah

  8. Bwa Ha Ha says: Jun 24, 2010 4:51 PM

Seattle is the suicide capitol of America. T.O. will get his panties bunched wayyyyyyyyy too tight. Somebody better take is shoe laces, no sharp stuff either.

  9. IdahoSeahawksFan says: Jun 24, 2010 4:56 PM

I don’t think so. There has been 0 talk from the front office in Seattle about acquiring TO. Not where your source is coming from but it’s wrong.

  10. viksfan says: Jun 24, 2010 4:58 PM

dam right they could use him…

  11. mwcarolina says: Jun 24, 2010 5:03 PM

first off, i doubt Dwayne Jarrett becomes a Seahawk, think the panthers are giving him one more shot and second, if the Seahawks sign T.O. then Pete Carroll has a higher chance of losing his job.

  12. CurseofBoJackson says: Jun 24, 2010 5:07 PM

It’s not the point to be an upgrade over TJ rj, it’s to add another viable receiver to TJ and Deion (barely viable). I think it would be the best move they could make at this point, now if they only had a viable QB.

The reason the Hawks will not be a contender next year is cuz there is this team in their division called the 49ers. As long as Smith dont throw 30 picks they will be just fine under Singletary, their running game, and a man named VD

  14. PatsFan0615 says: Jun 24, 2010 5:30 PM

There is no source. This is simply PFT “suggesting” this could potentially happen.
This just in….EVERY NFL team is considering bringing in a player that could improve their team (although, can TO improve a team? Not so sure about that).
No source, no meat to this, just a PFT rumor. Slow news day again, which is par for the course this time of year in the NFL.

But T.O. is going to Carolina! Right Florio? Right!?
Another story (can you even call it that?) that’s pure speculation. Fantastic.

The last time the Seahawks played the Cowboys, the Cowboys had the Seahawks beat, but Romo misshandled the snap.
    Yeah, you really showed us…
… and then you went on to lose the Superbowl and become one of the worst teams in the league for the last 2 or 3 years. Congratulations.

  22. DJS425 says: Jun 24, 2010 10:11 PM

do you remember what its like to win 2 games in the post season? If troy aikman is still alive he can tell you stories of a once mighty team who actually did something. I think vanilla ice was at his prime then

    A) Smith will only throw 15 INTs but only before he is benched after week 5.
    B) VD…isnt there a shot for that. Once Lofa hits him, he wont be much. 40Whinners 6-10

“If the Seahawks want to upgrade and if the guys who are the property of other teams aren’t available, it’s a no-brainer to pursue T.O., at some point.”
Unless you are concerned about team chemistry or if TO has much left in the tank and if that money could be better spent elsewhere. Another Florio special article- all speculation and if TO does sign PFT will refer to this as how the Seahawks are paying attention to this site for NFL knowledge.

  28. City_Native says: Jun 25, 2010 12:43 PM

Are Seahawks fans really fighting with Cowboys fans about past success? That is funny.

actually fag, we lost the superbowl two years before that game. WE beat you then, actually i think we’ve beat you twice the last three times we’ve played, and we’ve actually won some playoff games recently, in conclusion i hope Tony Romo and Mile Austin(both on my fantasy squad) have a great season statistically, but i hope that the cowboys choke again.
