Vick could be in trouble with Eagles, too

In our most recent item regarding The Summer of Vick, The Sequel, we explained that the question of whether he had direct or indirect involvement in the reported shooting of former Bad Newz Kennels associate Quanis Phillips has far less relevance than the apparent fact that Vick was in the same place as Phillips.

And while this rekindled association, if true, could jeopardize Vick’s status with the federal government and the National Football League, the mere whiff of a problem could be enough to get the Eagles to cut the cord.

For now, the team hasn’t said much of anything.  Per Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the team issued the following statement:  “We are aware of the incident that occurred in
Virginia early this morning and are in the process of gathering all of
the facts.  Until then, we will not have any
comment on this matter.

Depending on what they learn, the Eagles may opt for action instead of commentary.  Before doing so, however, they’d better have a damn good plan in place for backing up Kevin Kolb.

Then again, they arguably don’t have a damn good plan in place for backing up Kolb even with Vick on the team.

Yea- the coaches and owner had no clue of this until Florio pointed this out. If the owner does something and Vick is released and the team picks up a veteran Florio will be the first to say that PFT called it.

Celebrities throw birthday parties all the time. In fact they are paid to do so by the promoters. It doesn’t mean Vick was trying to associate himself with his old running mates. The guy showed up, started trouble and was shot. Could it be that he purposely tried to crash the party and someone took offense. I once talked about Allen Iverson at a Friday’s in Newport News and people were very defensive of him. Newport News is very small and tightly knit. I just don’t get how Vick is being painted as a rule breaker in this scenario.

I would think- as far as the law is concerned
It would not matter if Vick was upset/arguing with phillips because he showed up.
As far as the NFL and the federal government are concerned the ONLY course of action he was permitted to take when phillips showed his face would be to contact authorities.
The only way Vick is cleared of his parole violation is if there is a call from him on record informing authorities that the unwelcome guest needed to be removed.
Unfortunatly I am not sure Vick was smart enought to understand the terms of his parole

Yes, of course, Vick was sitting around a campfire singing Kumbaya with a group of innocent school children- when ALL OF THE SUDDEN, OUT OF NOWHERE, a bunch of thugs, who coincidentally included people Vick had included in his dog-fighting ring, showed up unannounced and ruined the whole party.

That’s because you don’t understand our legal system- Mike Vick is not like you or me- he is on PROBATION, and not entitled to the same rights as you or I. He has an extrordinary obligation to keep his nose clean, and just the fact that he was in a bar with someone who is an ex-felon, or anyone carrying a firearm, exposes him to circumstances that don’t apply to you or me, unless you are also a felon.
I love the whole, “he showed up, started trouble, and got shot” defense. As though that is completely acceptable and happens all the time. I have spent a lifetime in bars and clubs (including places like Wash, DC and Harlem) and it not all that common that simple disputes wind up with someone getting shot.

  23. Candice says: Jun 25, 2010 5:31 PM

Everyone, INCLUDING the blogger who wrote this less that stellar piece of CRAP article, is missing the point. Vick was not present when the shooting accrued. What we can say for certain is that Phillips, a high school teammate of Vick and co-defendant in Vick’s 2007 dogfighting conviction, attended the party and that he has declined to speak with the media. We can also say that the shooting victim and the witnesses have so far been uncooperative with police.

It is not about who did worse, they are both horrible people and if they were you or I would they’d be spending a lot more time in prison and would find it very difficult to ever find work again. They are both wastes of life and should be in prison with nobody taking their side except for the scummy defense lawyers who are only interested in their bank accounts. Celebrities need to be held as accountable as anyone else. Vick has different rules because he is a convicted criminal!!!! He got off easy if you ask me, they both did, the legal system is a joke. Florio,
Since you always reveal your innermost feelings regarding Mike Vick…what do you think about BIG BEN…never once have i read you post anything slanderous of negative in your
feelings about BEN….enough already….you act like an abused female…OH forgot that BEN’s job
    _____________
Please tell us you are being sarcastic…or perhaps you really are that stupid! Do yourself a favor and type in Roethlisberger’s name in the search engine for this site!

    Florio…
Why don’t you wait for the facts first? It makes no sense for Mike Vick to jeopardize his NFL status after just being reinstated??? Come on, son
    ————————-
It makes no sense for someone to bankroll a dogfighting ring with $100 million salary on the line.

Think the redskins would trade McNabb?
    He’s pretty good…

I am still a proud Michael Vick supporter, Vick haters are worse than Kobe haters. You guys wait for any amount of bad publicity to discredit Vick, just get off of his nuts! But I bet all you idiots on the site still ride on Big Ben’s nuts. Now there’s a winner, lets see a 2-time rapist and motorcycle crasher……

Florio’s page counter and ad rate guru just love when something happens with Vick or Big Ben.
They loser have their accusers who tend to look at the fact that each is in a heap of trouble. Then they each have their blind defenders who rush support their man. In each case a man who none of us really know and who certainly doesn’t give a ratz ass about any of us. I mean people defend Vick and Ben like they are their BFF’s. When really niether would offer any of us a glass of water.
But aside from that, the Vick defenders show their blindness by claiming the accusers didn’t treat Big Ben as bad as they do Vick. Meanwhile the Ben defenders claim that Vick gets a free ride after a conviction while Ben was never charged.
Face ot the two men are scum and PFT has pointed out their scum actions evenly. And speculated their fate under the various
“what if” scenarios like we have all done at home.
Before you cry “wait for the evidence before speculating on guilt” consider your reaction when they mentioned Van der Turd was arrested for the murder in Peru. Did you speculate they finally got Holloway’s murderer, or did you
say “gee Bob, I wonder if the preponderance of the evidence will be enough to convince a judge or jury that he committed this murder and if anything about Holloway will be revealed in the process. If so I will later speculate on what his punishment might be.”

Mike Vick is just a victim of circumstance, give the man a break, he can no more help being a ghetto dawg than Ol’ Bubba can help being trailer trash . Give Bubba money look out.

RealityPolice is right on with Vick and his probation. i dont care where he was at, club or bar, Vick NEEDS to be careful where he goes because he’s on probation with not just the police, but the NFL. Vick needs to not associate with losers like the guy who was shot anyway.
vbhall78, Big Ben Roethlisberger and Michael Vick are both on the same list. Ben has been accused twice of rape while Vick is a convicted felon. Both are guys who NEED to learn and grow up and There’s a BIG difference with Kobe haters and Vick haters. People dont like Vick because he killed dogs and bet on them, add to that, Vick isn’t even a good quarterback, but his fans think he’s really great at quarterback.
RyanT, i agree with you too. Michael Vick was better at selling tickets, but when it comes to passing a football, Matt Ryan is better. Vick is a running quarterback trying to get better at passing.

“One big diff – Vick was found guilty – Ben was accused….”
    WRONG!……. Vick PLEAD guilty.
    Big difference.

“Before doing so, however, they’d better have a damn good plan in place for backing up Kevin Kolb.”
Vick played 32 snaps last year, he is so far from a backup solution it isn’t even funny. If Kolb had gone down, Garcia would have been called.
The Eagles never planned to use Vick this year. He is, and has always been, a gadget player who was viewed as trade bait for a future pick. The Birds are banking some team’s starter goes down and they can get a 6th rounder for Vick. Not that he is even worth that, based on past efforts to trade him.
Even Seneca Wallace got more interest.

Rumor has it that the Eagles actually anointed this gig hoping and praying what could happen did happen. Now, they can cut loose Ron Mexico since flipping him for a draft pick didn’t pan out. The fringe benefit is the Eagles get to keep any additional salary Ron might have been owed, and use it to inoculate their sports complex from Ron’s complex. LMFAO.

You can look at this situation from more than one angle. But I have to wonder:
HOW OFTEN DO PEOPLE BRING GUNS TO BIRTHDAY PARTIES?
It says a lot about the character of the invited people if they feel the need to bring a gun, even if it’s only to defend themselves.
Anybody can be coached to say the right things, to apologize the best way and to show up at events to help others. It’s much more difficult to coach his friends, cohorts and associates. That’s what shows the real person.
