Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith wanted out of Baltimore earlier this offseason, before backing off his trade requests. Following the addition of Marc Bulger, Smith seems to realize now he must fight just to keep his job.
“It’s a part of the game,” Smith told the team’s website regarding Bulger’s addition. “The situation, there’s not much that we as
players can do about it. . . . . I’ve said it time and time again, my focus as a player is just getting
better. I have to take advantage of that opportunity, so I’m cool with
it.”
Smith is slated to battle John Beck for the No. 3 quarterback role now, although there has been speculation the team could look to deal Smith. They couldn’t get a fifth-round pick for him earlier in the offseason, so that won’t be easy.
The Ravens expect to bring both Smith and Beck to training camp, and Smith won’t be making any more trade requests.

Redskins need to scoop this guy up. Mcnugget has 1 season left
I think the Ravens would be willing to trade any of the back up QBs they have if another team wants one of them bad enough. Bulger should beat Smith for the #2 job and Smith should beat Beck for the last roster spot, but it will be a battle and not just based on salary or status.

Buy Troy Smith a season pass to Hometown Buffet and he’ll be okay with anything.
troy smith could start somewhere, i wish BUFFALO had him if he didnt start he would be at least a close second, but he would probably do good things given a fair shot at starting.
troy you wanted out, do you see the writing on the wall……………bye, bye birdie
What choice does he have? He can’t play, and the Ravens have spent some money on the unibrow…they have to stick with him, even though he chokes.
Maybe Smith can catch on in Buffalo…
when he was supposed to be the starter in Baltimore before Flacco, he looked pretty good. then he got injured and the Ravens moved on. i think he should go to somewhere else and be given the chance to start cuz i think he could play at the pro level.
Troy Smith has never “looked good” in an NFL game.
He’s another athlete trying to be a QB.
If teams won’t give a 5th rounder for you in a QB starved league, well, need I say more….
I’m not sure how a 3rd string QB can be overrated, but Troy is soooooo overrated. Ravens’ fans know he sucks, but it’s like the rest of the league seems to ignore how he played when he got his shot… He showed he’s not an NFL caliber QB.
He has NO accuracy at all, and he always looks to run before passing. I’d give him away for free, he’s worthless. Troy Smith is to QBs what Mark Clayton is to WRs. Please leave.
UFL? CFL?
hail to the redskins….
Perhaps, if Troy Smith is released which is now more of a possibility, he can sign with another club. Cleveland, Washington, Philadelphia, Buffalo? Cleveland would be sweet since they play the Ravens twice a year. I’m hopeful, the kid gets a chance. He did win a Heisman Trophy on a Championship team.
GO STEELERS!
Rumors are swirling here in Baltimore of Smith to Buffalo.
Go crawl to Cleveland now!!!
Hey Troy – don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. we won’t miss you or your bad attitude.
Troy Smith is worth a 3
spend some money on unibrow….good one
F-ASS!!
I’m going to enjoy laughing at all the Ravens fans when Flacco goes down with an injury after holding on to the ball for too long… and then they’ll see Bulger or Beck on the field.
Don’t know how anyone thinks Troy Smith is only battling for the 3rd spot now. He’s the CLEAR number 2. They got Bulger because they assume Smith is going to leave after this season.
And all this nonsense about “not being able to get a 5th earlier this offseason” is bogus because they never intended to trade him. He was their clear back-up. He’s been in the offense just as long as Flacco, and knows the players around him.
Not saying Troy Smith is great, by any means. But please… stop making up crap.
@habibfromnewdehli
Cam likes Beck over Troy, and most Ravens fans (the people that have seen him play) agree.
And of course we were trying to get a 5th rounder for him!!! We were desperate for picks. It was well-known that we were shopping Troy and Gaither because we started the draft with very few picks.
Habib,
You’re not getting it. Cam Cameron already prefers Beck over Smith. And now they bring in Bulger. If you can’t see the handwriting on the wall I can’t help you. Smith already hurt himself by being outspoken in a locker room that is increasingly intolerant of malcontents under Harbaugh. The reason the Ravens didn’t get any trade offers for Smith is that he hasn’t proven he’s better than what the league already thought about him when he fell to the fifth round in the draft. That, and because there were other QBs of equal or higher value already on the open market this spring.

Yeah he’s almost as misguided as an actor trying to be a character in a frikking movie.
Since Bulger makes more than Flacco,I doubt the Ravens expect Bulger to be more than a single season insurance policy.
So the Ravens must decide if Smith or Beck will be the number 2 next season. If they think Smith is their best option he will not be traded – unless some team gives them what they think Smith is worth.
If they think- Beck is the best option next season as the back up, Smith could be had for a low draft pick. Some teams think those low draft picks are worthless, not the Ravens .

A steelers fan laughing at a team having to use to backup qb??? I’d rather have a QB go down with injury than sexual assault. Enjoy using Leftwich, a QB that wasn’t good enough to start for the Bucs last year.
TROY SMITH is the truth.
