Living in Washington my whole life I’ve always thought Redskin fans were kinda stupid. After reading comments from Broncos fans over the years, I realize the redskin fans are no where near as stupid as way too many Broncos fans.

Favre can play at 40 cause he doesn’t have to be able to run with the fast boys. At 32 Champ doesn’t possibly have 3 years left at corner. No way. I would like him to play safety for the Chargers, but AJ will never pay an aging superstar the kind of money he imagines he’s worth. Maybe the Jets can pick him up. Play him behind Cromartie to make the tackles Cro won’t.

You don’t measure greatness by superbowls dude!!! You can’t say someone isn’t great just because their team doesn’t make it there. It takes TEAMWORK to get to the SB. When people talk about Dan Snyder’s mistakes they far too rarely look at this decision not to pay Bailey, and instead pay huge money to Arrington. It wasn’t as though there weren’t people pointing out the Arrington was over-rated at the time, nor that cornerbacks are worth far more than LB’s. To me it was the biggest mistake he has ever made, in hindsight.
At the time I supported the decision because Bailey’s “pay me” attitude got right up my nose. The guy has a reputation for being classy, a true professional, and he is. He is in it for the money. His loyalty to his team is based on being paid by it. He is a very good player, but he leaves me cold as fan. I know most players are like that, in it for the money, really I do, but I don’t get any form of pretence from Bailey.
He doesn’t even try to delude himself, he is a football hooker who will give any franchise a nice ride so long as they leave enough money on the dresser.
If he has any sense he’ll retire at the end of this contract. He has made millions. He’ll make millions more if he invests it properly. Best to quit now whilst he still has knees.

It would be nice for the Broncos to get him re-signed but none of the teams are locking up older players long term if they don’t have to. Nobody knows what is going to happen with the CBA so guys like Champ, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady among others who would normally be signed to extensions are going to have to wait.

Champ isn’t overrated, and I’m sure he knows he’ll get a lower salary after his contract is done this year. While he can still play quite well, his age will work against him and he knows it. Champ was sending a message however. Whether you love or hate what McDaniels has done in Denver, there’s no denying that he has completely dismantled what was one of the highest scoring offenses just two seasons ago. Talk about SBs and playoffs all you want, but the stats are there. The Broncos put up enough points, they just couldn’t keep others from scoring, despite Champ’s solid performance. That’s what happens when you have no pass rush (Dumerville finally helped out there this past year) and your secondary consists of one great CB and a bunch of average at best CBs and safeties. If you don’t believe me, ask Raiders fans. In place of the players that he’s gotten rid of, McDaniels has filled their spots with what seem like developmental players. We all know about Tebow, but Thomas didn’t play in a system that prepared him for pro-style route running. Maybe both will turn out great, and maybe both will suck. The fact of the matter is, that it’s going to take time to know either way. At 32 years old, why would Champ give the Broncos a home town discount just to stick around for a rebuilding year. If he’s going to be making less money, I figure he’d rather play for a championship contender that needed some help in their secondary.

Champ is awesome but the broncos are rebuilding if they give him a long term contract that will be stupid they’d be better off trading him and getting what they can.
Champ will get paid next year because he can play at a high level for at least 4 more years position move or not. The Broncos are just the wrong team for him to be on when he gets paid.

Ah you gotta love those Broncos fans.
Because Bailey(you could also insert Cutler, Marshall, or Dumervil here) haven’t single handedly taken them to a Super Bowl they’re not worth the going price, competitive NFL rate, for their positions.
The last time I looked there were 22 starting players on a NFL team. It is unusual for one player to take a team to a Super Bowl. Intelligent teams (and owners) realize that you need to pay competitive wages to a handful of key players to field a playoff contending team. Apparently the Broncos fail to grasp this concept.

Bailey is on the wrong side of 30, his skills have diminished and bronco’s are retooling. By the time the broncos are relevant again, bailey may be retired but sure he will be 2-3 years older and there’s no way the broncos are going to pay him the big bucks contract when they know they are rebuilding. bailey will get his best contract as a free agent and going to a team that is contending for a SB and just needs to tweak

The Broncos signed Dawkins to a multi-year deal even though his skills are obviously declining. He payed them back by playing through a broken hand and still being a monster. Forget Haynesworth, Revis, and all that garbage, the vets that show up and play every day, year in and year out deserve the money.

I hope they cut him, and Brandon Marshal convinces him to come and play safety for the Dolphins at a reduced rate from his cornerback price. Damn would that be a coup for the Fins! Then we could realistically start thinking SB.
