Vick's guest list calls his judgment into question

It’s still not clear whether Michael Vick dog fighting co-defendant Quanis Phillips was an invited guest or a party crasher when he was shot outside Vick’s birthday celebration last week. But people who have followed the chronicles of the Vick family will remember the name of one of the guests who definitely was invited: Delicia Cordon.

Cordon, for those who don’t remember, was arrested along with Vick’s brother, Marcus Vick, in 2008. In that incident, Marcus Vick was arrested for drunk driving and Cordon was charged with being drunk in public. Cordon was described by the Palm Beach Post at the time as “a deadbeat, according to court records [who] has six racy MySpace pages in her name.”

Cordon’s name appears on the invitation to Vick’s party, alongside Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall (who says he wasn’t there), Olympic 400-meter champion LaShawn Merritt, Colts safety Antoine Bethea, former NBA star Allen Iverson, rapper Pusha-T, a woman named Mia Michelle (who, like Cordon, has plenty of racy photos of her available online) and The De Creme Models.

Vick and Phillips are both forbidden, as a term of their probation, from associating with each other, and that means that unless they just happened to run into each other at the party by pure coincidence, they were violating their probation. When NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell reinstated Vick, he made a specific point of telling Vick to adhere to “limits on who you may associate with.”

But even if the birthday party guest list doesn’t draw the ire of Vick’s probation officer, it still suggests that Vick just doesn’t get it. Vick is showing — at the very least — poor judgment by publicly announcing that he’s partying with a woman who has previously been arrested alongside his brother. (And a woman who seems to have a knack for causing headaches for NFL players — she also once filed a lawsuit against Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown.)

Vick hosted a football camp last week and reportedly told the children who attended, “Pick and choose your friends carefully. You just can’t put yourself in vulnerable situations.”

It’s long past time for Vick to take his own advice.

Just the fact he had a public birthday party at a club when he is forbidden to consume alcohol calls his judgment into question.
And if he did this as a way to make extra money, I hope he reports this income to the IRS.
Face it, the guy does not get it and never will.

Its just hysterical how PFT is egging on the haters knowing full well this is absolutely nothing. LOL, Vick will be in training camp…The Eagles owner somewhere chilling not thinking about this nonsense…other than wondering why his hired guns “missed” Phillips…just a warning shot. LOL

LOL – now you’re bashing the guy for inviting people who drink a little too much alcohol and public and post “racy photos” of themselves. Only one of these things is a crime, and a it’s a very minor one at that. And the cops would call anyone a deadbeat. They get off on that stuff more than the commenters here get off bashing you.
You really think Vick would invite this guy to his party, in a public place, with 300 other people around? No. It’s pretty obvious to me he was jealous of Vick’s second chance and showed up to cause some havoc – exactly what he got.
Come on man, Vick can’t have a birthday party? What kind of life does this guy have to live? Get off his back, you people love to hate.

Let’s get back to the news and the rumors please. Nobody cares about your advice Florio. If anyone did, you would be hired by someone to give it. You’ve been hired here to give us NEWS and RUMORS. This story – again – is neither.

  22. AlphaBean says: Jun 27, 2010 12:39 PM

Nothing should happen to Vick unless Phillips was invited, BY VICK, or Vick is found to have ordered the shooting. Outside of that, just shut up already.
Who knows, maybe a member of PeTA or some other animal activist shot Phillips in an attempt to frame Vick and… kill two birds with one stone. *cough*
As for the girls with “racy MySpace photos,” God forbid an athlete have hot girls at his party. He’s not Ben Roethlisberger. They undoubtedly will get Herpes if they didn’t already have it, but having a club full of black people doesn’t equate to poor judgment. Now if “Air Bud” was on the guest list, there might be cause for concern.
Okay, so next year, Vick should spend his birthday at Disneyland with Tim Tebow. Got it.
I’m not a Vick apologist, but I’m sick of reading all of the people running around like chickens with their heads cut off, calling for his head.

if it turns out hes not involved, everybody back off him. he hosted an open birthday party because he has over a million dollars in his name. if you had over a million dollars in your name, youd probly do the same. so if some asshole from your past that brings out the worst in you showed up and started causing trouble and you made him leave and hes the kinda guy that says no, wouldnt one of your boys tell him to leave?? thats the way it happened in my eyes and it got outta hand. everybody here should shut the hell up and reserve judgment until the facts arise, because nobody here actually knows what happened

I believe Vick is a scumbag but there’s no story here. How bout this Florio, someone comes up to you and tells you the whole life you’ve lived is wrong and now you need to cut connections with everyone you knew, cared for, loved, and sit in your house by yourself and do nothing. Forever. It’s impossible and unrealistic to believe someone should do that. He did a terrible thing, paid the price, and now he can go about his life the way he wants. If he wants to hang out with girls who drink oh well. I hang out with people who’ve gotten too drunk and got arrested. One is a teacher. Dumb shit happens. Stop trying to make a story out of nothing. I hate Vick and I’m here defending him because your story here is just your opinion. Pathetic journalism.

Sure he can have a birthday party but it’s under the Feds rules.
The kind of live he seems to want isn’t going to happen, it’s plain and simple no alcohol, no association with anyone with a felony.
He lost his right to control his own life that is until he is off of parole, plain and simple the Feds own his life for the foreseen future.

Three things are guaranteed in life:
    1. Death
    2. Taxes
    3. BlondBlueDevils will post a “HA HA HA” in every article about Vick.
    4. He will claim Vick is the best QB of all time while ignoring the fact the Vick has some of the worst QB stats for a QB in the NFL.
    5. He will play the race card and claim white people hate vick because he is a black athlete.
    6. He will ignore the fact that maybe, just MAYBE, people (white & black) hate Vick because he tortured dogs, lied to the FBI, lied to the commish, stole a Rolex, tried to bring his stash of pot on a plane and got busted, smoked pot while awaiting his trail for dog torture, never served a single day in jail for the dog torturing only gambling, and knowingly gave women herpes Ron Mexico style.
Okay, that’s more than three, but you get my point.
I have a strange feeling that all the people who are defending Vick would gladly pay good money to go to Vick’s birthday party.
    And bring a gun.

The Eagles owner somewhere chilling not thinking about this nonsense…
    Wanna bet, idiot?
Anyone that has seen the press conference from Eagles owner Jeff Lurie announcing the signing of Vick back in August 2009 can *clearly* see that this was an individual that had to be coerced and cajoled into signing this assclown to his football team.
There were numerous times where Lurie paused when questioned about his decision and how he struggled to find the right words to say in a *positive* manner of how Vick could help his team.
However, he wasn’t in short supply of any words with this quote:
“I was asked to approve something, approve Michael coming to the Eagles after having committed something that so many of us, and myself very much included, regard as horrific behavior. *I don’t even have words to describe the cruelty, the torture, the complete disregard for any definition of common decency. I don’t have the words.* In the past two years I’ve had two dogs that have passed away. I think about them every day. That’s the nature of a human and a dog and that’s the way it should be. This represented, to me, the polar opposite and the worst possible behavior of a human being or a group of human beings and dogs.”
The only person that would change his mind if he felt this strongly about this situation would be the only person that has a higher strength of authority regarding his livelyhood.
    Roger Goodell.
Lurie did this as a favor to the league and the commissioner because it was quite obvious noone was going to take a chance with this absolute shit stain of a human being.
If you think he’s not going to take this shot to boot his dumbass into the stratosphere and off his football team, you ARE as dumb as every other Vick loyalist that infects this society.
    Congratulations, idiot.

    1. Go back to the high school you never graduated from and learn basic grammar and sentence structure.
    2. You are taking issue with a situation where this individual, by his own omission, attended an event which was clearly understood to have in attendance individuals that he is FORBIDDEN to associate with and he attended anyway. This is clear violation of his federal probation and reinstatement of employment with the NFL.
If he didn’t understand this, that’s his problem.
If YOU don’t understand this, this isn’t a surprise.

I believe its well established that Mike Vick has poor judgement. You really can’t question the quality of someone’s judgment that is well established as being poor. Unless you’re attempting to move it from being known as bad and into the atrocious category. Now if you want to discuss bad judgment, lets discuss you using the full name Michael David Smith in your Byline. Are you tring to be Michael Dean Perry or is it Jennifer Love Hewett? You work for a web site that taunts those who take themselves too seriously and then you go and use a three name Byline? Try using Mike Smith and maybe someday Michael Smith, else we’ll have to ask NBC about its quality of judgement in letting you have a Byline.

I wish some of you would get off of your tractors and come into the city some day. Maybe you will learn that not every single African American is a “drugged out thug.” I know far more whites than blacks on crack, FYI.
All athletes have a tendency to be idiots. Some rape drunk girls (or 17 year olds in a hot tub). Some do… whatever it was Manning did to that girl at Tennessee. Some knock up Hollywood starlets and leave them for supermodels (Awesome, yes, but still kind of douchy, Tom Brady). Some crap in clothes hampers. Some kill dogs. Some break into their ex’s house and wave guns. These are kids with money; what do you expect, other than that they grow out of it eventually? And yes, they are kids. Life is tough for you and me. Reality hits us a lot earlier than it does them. That’s our fault for not being blessed with that kind of talent.
Just because you can relate to having sex with minors (your sister, for example), yet you can’t relate to growing up in a culture where killing dogs is “okay,” (however, you or one of your pals likely hunts for sport), doesn’t make someone a “thug” or a “monkey” as people have been saying in this thread. They’re just young people making mistakes. Vick made his; but he can’t cut complete ties with his family just because his brother is a douchebag and his brother’s baby’s mama has hot pictures on MySpace.
Iverson recently had to choose between his family and basketball – he chose his family. He is not a thug. He has tattoos, and used to be an immature rich athlete, but that doesn’t mean he will always be that way. To suggest that is ignorant, and honestly, racist.
Vick’s probation doesn’t state he has to avoid his brother. This entire topic is just a non-story meant to give people ammo to crucify Vick. What other things call one’s judgment into question? Maybe he enjoys the Twilight films. Maybe he likes fat girls. Maybe he’s a soccer fan. Let’s twist that into him being a “thug” and a “monkey!”

Ok, of course Vick (and all other black people in the public eye) are on a shorter leash. That sucks, its stupid and unfair but it is a reality. But that, in no way, excuses Vick’s behavior and lack of judgement. I think the Eagles should cut him, and the NFL should suspend him 4 days (with the chance to make it 2) for violation of the conduct policy. That is perfectly fair. He is getting less of a punishment than Ben did but he is still getting punished. As far as him being cut (and Ben not) Ben is better than Vick at QB. That is just business. If Vick had been really good, than he could get more slack but since he provides very little to that team, why keep him around for the headache?

  97. buddha says: Jun 27, 2010 9:41 PM

There’s nothing wrong with eating animals, only with intentionally inflicting pain on something for fun. Hunting doesn’t qualify, as long as you eat it afterwards, because it isn’t done for fun, it’s done for food. Now, we can get into a discussion of whether or not hunting is really “sport” (it isn’t – when you have a high powered rifle and a deer doesn’t even know you’re there. If you want a real sport, go fight a bear with a knife), but that’s a discussion for another day.
Also, Vick is a douche, a monster and he should probably be shot on sight.

  103. Raiders757 says: Jun 28, 2010 8:56 AM

I am far from being a Vick supporter, but in all fairness to the guy, he didn’t organize the party. A friend of his organized the event and made the guest list. He was interviewed by our local news here in Hampton Roads, Va., and from the way he made it sound, not much can be blamed on Vick. Well, other than being stupid enough to attend such an event, knowing full and well that when you get a bunch of thugs together in one room, sooner or later something bad will happen. It never fails.

  104. Mooch says: Jun 28, 2010 9:41 AM

    Raiders…
He went to an uncontrolled environment in a bar in the town where he committed crimes.
When Vick got his 2nd chance he forfeited his freedom to go to events like this.
And if he does, he puts his livelihood at risk. Because the negative decision is at odds with Lurie’s “zero tolerance, no third chance” stance.
No one is saying he should go to jail, but I think it is best for my team to release him.
And if Vick was even a backup center I may feel like cutting him some slack. But Vick has no value whatsoever. He is stealing oxygen from real football players in my locker room.

  105. KC33 says: Jun 28, 2010 10:10 AM

Wow, I don’t know what’s worse, Vick associating with women who pose for “racy” photos or Big Ben hanging with dirty cops. What’s with today’s QBs. Plus Vick should have known he needed to cancel his birthdays after all the trouble he has been in. Doesn’t he know that just because he served his time doesn’t mean “time served”? He should spend the rest of his life groveling at the feet of those who judge him and be humbled in the presence of those of us who do no wrong.

Face facts, Vick didn’t even get us an offer for a 7th rounder. He is worthless. I might make excuses and defend an actual player, like even Nick Cole who is 20x the football player Vick is, but I don’t care about tossing a bit/gadget player aside and getting back the $5mm.
It’s a business. No “hating” here.

  108. Raiders757 says: Jun 28, 2010 3:07 PM

I hear ya’ Mooch, and don’t disagree. That was the point I was making with the last part of my post. I live in his home town and know all too well about the people he runs around with. They’re not good people at all. I was just pointing pout that he didn’t make the guest list, so if someone was invited whom shouldn’t have been, it’s probably not Vick’s fault. I completely agree that putting himself in an environment like that, was stupid, but it’s pretty well known that he’s not the brightest bulb in the pack.

I try not to reply very often because this isn’t debate on this site but rather argument. However, I have a few points I’d love answered in a constructive way.
    1) Does Vick’s probation prohibit alcohol? I’ve heard it said several times but from past articles (particularly when he had the drink in the airport) it was reported he has no restriction on drinking. Which is it?
    2) Was anyone who he was not supposed to associate with on a guest list or invited by him? If he invited anyone that shouldn’t have been invited he is at fault. Otherwise I’m not sure what he did wrong here.
    3) were the terms of his probation not to go to public events? this was a party organized by his brother correct?
    4) Do you feel that perhaps Vick saw people in the party he shouldn’t be around and that’s why he left? I don’t know one way or the other but it occurs to me that everyone talks about him leaving but never think of WHY he might have left.

  113. -Slap- says: Jun 29, 2010 5:04 PM
