Drew Brees has no doubt he'll see Brett Favre in the opener

The New Orleans Saints will open the season against the Minnesota Vikings on September 9, and Saints quarterback Drew Brees says he already knows whose hand he’ll shake at midfield before the coin toss.

I don’t think there’s any doubt that Brett Favre is coming back, and he’s going to be as good as he’s ever been,” Brees told Nancy Gay of FanHouse. “We’re going to need our best game to beat him, I know that. They’re a good team. A very good team.”

Although Favre himself claims he doesn’t know whether he’s going to play this season, everyone else in and around the NFL seems to agree that Favre will be with the Vikings when the season starts.

That regular season opener, a rematch of the NFC Championship Game, has generated quite a bit of trash talk this offseason, especially between Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe and Saints safety Darren Sharper. Brees says he and his teammates are already getting excited.

“There has been some chatter back and forth between our team and their team, and I just kind of hear about it. I don’t really do much of it,” Brees said. “Listen, we know that’s going to be a big game.”

Vikings fans better hope Favre isn’t as rusty against the Saints as he was against the Browns in his first game last season. it’s gonna take a while for the 40 year old to get back into game shape if he misses training camp and a chunk of preseason again.

  8. Bob Nelson says: Jun 28, 2010 7:09 PM

Favre is under contract for this season only.
His back ups Rosenfels and Jackson are under contract for this season only.
The vikings have no QB under contract for 2011.
It will be interesting who they sign to replace those 3.

  9. PackFansLikeSheep says: Jun 28, 2010 7:12 PM

“And we’ll need at least another 5-1 turnover advantage like last time or we’re not getting to any overtime,” Brees added.
    Good luck with that, Drew.

I think it’s already pretty well determined who the Vikes next QB will be. McNabb stated publicly his wish to be traded to the Vikings but as Favre, the #3 MVP vote getter last yeasr, will be playing QB for the Vikes again this year, the Vikes were not able to accommodate McNabb until next year.
Therefore, McNabb accepted his trade to Washington where despite Washington’s best efforts, McNabb has refused to sign an extension. He will sign with the Vikings on the first day of free agency next year, after Favre retires with yet another Super Bowl ring, and Ted “The Gay Ghost” Thompson retires in scandal and infamy.

Don’t they have that “stud” receiver or running back or whatever who is supposed to be their QB of the future? He’s the obvious choice to replace Favre.
As far as Rosenfels/Jackson, they could sign Jamarcus – even he’d be an improvement over them.

I know they like Webb, the guy they drafted this year. It sounds like he’s performing like they wanted Jackson to. He can actually throw the ball. I fully expect them to draft a QB next year and maybe sign a free agent QB or trade for a guy like Brady Quinn. Quinn has no future in Denver after they drafted Tebow. The guy has developed and he still hasn’t got an opportunity. He has to be frustrated.

  40. MrHumble says: Jun 28, 2010 9:16 PM

Brees and Favre are two class acts, the NFL needs more players like them. It should be a good game but I suspect the fans from both teams will put more emphasis on the game and in particular the outcome than will the teams themselves. It’s one game of a long season and no matter which team wins/loses, they will both be there come playoff time.

  42. PackFansLikeSheep says: Jun 28, 2010 9:27 PM

If the Saints have another 5-1 turnover advantage (like that’ll ever happen again) they’ll have a reasonable chance of getting to OT with the Vikes again.

“Brees and Favre are two class acts, the NFL needs more players like them”
Agree with Brees, as for Favre, as a man he’s great, but his decision making is AWFUL. He cant make up his mind on retiring or not, it’s a simple answer, if you have the itch to play football, play, if not, retire.

In response to Mack Daddy and his comment for Brett’s daughter disgracing the family name………you need to check your facts man. Brett Favre had a daughter in 1989 and he did not marry her mother until 1996. Deanna was a single mom for quite a few years until he decided to be part of their lives. So stop trash talking about his daughter…..
